Someone has posted a tiny bag of white powder through our letterbox!

Confused

Me and DH are freaking out a bit. At about 10pm we heard the letterbox go while we were watching TV but didn't immediately check it. We've just got up to head to bed and it's a tiny little ziplock bag (like 50p sized tiny) with white lumpy powder in it Hmm

We're going to have to call 111 in the morning arent we? Really freaked and going to struggle to sleep now!

What the actual fuck Confused

Op - do you live in an estate with similar looking houses ? Streets with similar names?

How easy would it be for someone to mix it up but also not remember where they actually posted it?

fuckrightoff · 23/01/2021 23:34

Love this Grin glad your DC didn't find it OP but I'm howling at some advice on here GrinGrin

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/01/2021 23:34

It never ceases to amaze me how people still get off on recreational drugs. It’s like the tackiest naffest rough thing a person can do. Vile. You did right OP. Hopefully the scumbags don’t revisit.

brushandmop · 23/01/2021 23:34

Sorry cross posted with OP

fastwigglylines · 23/01/2021 23:35

@Redburnett

It may be unwise to report to police in case you get an officer who decides you are in possession of something illegal.......The chance of the police actually following it up is minimal. Just bin it.
This is nonsense. If you're in possession of drugs but in your way to the police station to report it, then you're not committing the crime of possession.

Personally I think the OP should just bin it tomorrow though.

LizFlowers · 23/01/2021 23:35

@Blacksheepcat

Sounds like a tiny bag of coke....no one is gonna come knocking for it. We’re in lockdown, have fun with it! X
They could.

OP, dip the tip of your little finger in and taste it. If it's OK, you can sell it on the dark web. It would help with post-Christmas financial recovery.

RaininSummer · 23/01/2021 23:35

I wouldnt bother ringing 101. What do you expect them to do. Hang onto it for a while in case someone knocks for it and just give it to them if you want an easy life. You do anything else isn't going to solve the drug problem and may cause you issues.

Mowly75 · 23/01/2021 23:36

Lucky you 🙃

Firsttimecatlady · 23/01/2021 23:36

@Whatisthis4

Do not repackage it and put it back out! You will look like YOU are dealing! My god...
THIS!!! They will not come back for it- it doesn’t around like we’re talking high value here, and this isn’t a misdirected Hermes parcel to track down- it’s a drugs drop. Keep it for a day or two if you like, but then bin it. DEFINITELY don’t take part in the passing on of the drugs to another person (which taping to your door with a note would absolutely be!)

I know! So many people are badly informed about drugs but still love to share absolute tosh about them, don't they!

Just leave it on your doorstep, if it's still there in the morning just bin it. Police aren't going to be bothered I'd have thought, what can they do? Doubt someone will come ask for it unless they know you, too risky.

HarrysWife · 23/01/2021 23:38

shocked that dealers do a door to door delivery service

I used to do home visits for work on a rough estate in Manchester and there were frequently 9/10+ year old boys on bikes going round doing drops. They would just ride their bikes up peoples paths and have a quick chat while they did the handover, or post it through. The police used to do hourly drive through's of the estate to keep an eye on things and you knew when they were driving up as you would hear someone shout from their doorstep (usually a fully grown adult stood smoking/watching the world go by).

HugeBowlofChips · 23/01/2021 23:38

Put it in a tupperware on the front step helpfully labelled DRUGS

Crinkle77 · 23/01/2021 23:39

@1forAll74

I would just flush it down the toilet. If you tell the police about it,they may start asking you if you have any more in the house. It would depend on how they viewed some drugs being posted through the door though.
Don't be daft. The police wouldn't think that. Why would they think that someone calling the police to report a drug deal gone wrong would then have more in the house?
Yohoheaveho · 23/01/2021 23:40

Yeah definitely keep and sell it on the dark Web 🤣

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2021 23:41

Nobody is coming back for it OP. For all they know you could be in the Police and have cameras everywhere.

Keep it safe fir a few days then just dispose of it.

UmmWTF · 23/01/2021 23:43

I must admit I'm having a good laugh at some of the suggestions here Grin I'm note remotely worried that the police will then suspect I have more in the house! They're welcome to search it if they like, as long as they don't tell DH when they find my secret yarn stash Grin

As above, definitely don’t leave it outside - for many reasons of not knowing what is going to happen to it.

Don’t assume that illegality means that nobody would attempt to claim it

You aren’t going to have Mr Big arrive, though that doesn’t guarantee that Mr Little won’t or that the intended recipient doesn’t
In the grand scheme of things a bag won’t be worth a lot of money - but to the buyer they’ve lost out on an amount, they might be upset enough to turn up for it.

The right thing is to report it, the easy way out is to put it aside and ask no questions if someone turns up

(((As an aside, we ran a paintball game with a drugs prop of a holdall full of packages of flour. It ended up lost for a few months.
The beaters at the farmers pheasant shoot found it and went through all the scenarios of whether to hand it in or try and get rich.

Our event took place in February, pheasant season is October - I don’t know what kind of buzz you could get snorting flour after 8 months in a bush)))

UndertheCedartree · 23/01/2021 23:47

@ParkheadParadise - I like your thinking! 😂

Babyroobs · 23/01/2021 23:47

@Ledkr

Sounds like coke put through the wrong address. Do u have any dodgy neighbours?
Cocaine users would not necessarily present as dodgy though. they are Drs, lawyers, bankers, well virtually anyone really.
UmmWTF · 23/01/2021 23:48

This thread has certainly helped while I calmed the fuck down so cheers for that Grin

borntohula · 23/01/2021 23:48

Why anyone is telling op 'have fun with it,' i don't know. She doesn't even know what it is ffs.

VaggieMight · 23/01/2021 23:49

I'm very impressed that drug dealers are adhering to social distancing. Don't kill your gran for a gram kids Wink

Put it out of the way and give it to the police. That's what I did with a rather large quantity of stinky cannabis I found outside.

Can't imagine they would come back for it, even the most brazen of socially distancing drug dealers will probably write it off.

sergeilavrov · 23/01/2021 23:49

Don't worry, it's already paid for. The dealer won't care, so unless the user is willing to knock on your door (unlikely, given it is illegal), they'll just buy some more. A friend of mine moved to the UK, bought some weed, realised the dealer posted it through the downstairs elderly neighbours' door and went to ask for it. She didn't know it was illegal here, and thankfully her boyfriend intervened. Always wondered if the elderly couple made any use of it. My friend found a more competent supplier.
