If you could change three things about your house, what would they be?

Or are you happy with your lot? Smile

OP posts:
Theshelfisboring · 23/01/2021 03:10

I wish it had a 3rd bedroom
I wish it had a decent loft
I wish it had better parking
I wish most of all that it had a main light in my bedroom

That's four things. Oops. The last one is the main one though. Really annoying.

Skippinginthesnow · 23/01/2021 03:25

I’d only change one thing....the house. I hate it.

DramaAlpaca · 23/01/2021 03:34

On the whole I love mine. We designed it ourselves so the mistakes are all ours.

I'd stretch it outwards to make it bigger. We couldn't do that when we built due to budget. I'd also stretch it upwards so we could convert our attic space. Totally our fault as we didn't measure properly, half a metre more and we'd be fine. Our DC are grown and left home so we've loads of space but it still annoys me 20 years on.

Finally, I'd like it finished. All the niggles ironed out and fixed. And it all redecorated without me having to do it. Oh, and the garden being finished would be good.

Did I say we've been here 20 years? Grin

Ugzbugz · 23/01/2021 03:41

I have the biggest roof so boarded loft in my flat, dont think I'm allowed but doing part anyway, (flat), kitchen next to front room/dining room, juliette balcony

Weirdfan · 23/01/2021 03:56

It's all doable stuff if we ever had any spare money but every time we manage to save a bit some catastrophe happens and sucks us dry again. A shower would be heaven, not a simple job as an electric would require wiring and plumbing from scratch as there's never been one fitted and a mains shower is apparently complicated by our antiquated boiler (old fashioned type with a water tank) and needs some kind of valve fitting to give us enough pressure. There's also a placement issue with a mains shower because of an oddly shaped alcove behind the tap end of the bath, an electric would be easier placement-wise as it could go the other end but we've been quoted £800 for that. But by the time we've built the false wall for behind the bath and tiled or otherwise waterproofed the walls, plus the valve and a plumber to fit it even a mains one isn't going to be cheap.

Next one is a new kitchen and the wall between kitchen and dining room taking out so we can extend the kitchen slightly, the current layout is ridiculous and the dividing wall is a complete waste of space.

And then the garden, properly dug out, levelled and slabbed instead of the sloping, uneven mud-pit-posing-as-a-lawn we currently have. Only other thing I'd do is pick it up and put it somewhere else, next door's music is still blasting at nearly 4am so somewhere quiet would be nice Smile

Add a porch
Add a utility
Add a bedroom
Add a wc

One day maybe

GlowingOrb · 23/01/2021 04:12

I’d like a big entrance room with space for coats, boots, bags, and a desk for mail.

An additional 1/2 bath.

I’d like DD’s room to be a bit bigger

recluse · 23/01/2021 05:09

Remove the horrible lean-to / conservatory and replace with a new patio.

Renovate both bathrooms (one of them is a small shower room).

Get all the windows sanded and varnished.

Autumnchill · 23/01/2021 05:11

The neighbour, front garden, garage doors

WanderingMilly · 23/01/2021 05:16

I would like a bath. I have a lovely bathroom but it only has a fancy shower, I dream of having a long soak in a bath!

I'd make the kitchen and living room into one large kitchen-diner space, it would look lovely.

And add a garden....

icklekid · 23/01/2021 05:21

I’d love a bigger drive (so house is further away from road), detached and to change the direction of the garden for more sun. However I am very happy with my lot. None of those things are essential and whilst we could afford to move to get those I love where I live and the house itself so I doubt we ever will!

OhToBeASeahorse · 23/01/2021 05:37

Inside is pretty ideal for us, my w major things would be make it detached and put it in a quiet lane not s main road.

Inside, make the 2bed bathroom big enough for a roll top bath.

Alfaix · 23/01/2021 05:44

Change the angle so it gets sun in the kitchen and living room and on the patio.
Less overlooked back garden
Conservatory

PinkyParrot · 23/01/2021 05:54

Move it nearer the DCs x3

PrinnyPree · 23/01/2021 06:07

Bigger kitchen (mine's so small it only fits an undercounter fridge)
Bigger bedroom (I have to walk sideways round the foot of the bed to get to the otherside of the room)
Nice driveway (ours is crumbling concrete and a nightmare for weeds)
This list could go on forever...

I guess I'd just like a bigger house mostly, its a 3 bed semi but the main part of the house is only 700sqft which is starting to feel tight with a baby. Things I love though is its a nice area walking distance to town, round the corner from an outstanding primary, its in a cul-de-sac so no traffic, after 7 years nearly decorated and updated every room including new bath and kitchen (even though they're tiny) and I ripped down the asbestos garage and built a cedar garden office for homeworking 2 years ago (must've seen Covid coming)

Scarlett1251 · 23/01/2021 06:09

A driveway, downstairs toilet and bigger garden.

SantiagoSky · 23/01/2021 07:42

Loft extension
A second bathroom
Knock down the wall between kitchen and living room

Clawdy · 23/01/2021 08:15

Downstairs toilet
Non-creaking floorboards
Strong wooden blinds on patio doors for security.

user1471538283 · 23/01/2021 08:31

We currently rent and much as there is lots about apartment living I love (ground floor, trendy area, small private garden, open plan, modern) I definitely need a detached bungalow, a second bathroom and parking.

Lucieintheskye · 23/01/2021 08:33

A less scary basement
Evenly spaced windows in living room- we have 4 all different distances apart on one wall and it makes me a little queasy
Orangery on the back

Sexnotgender · 23/01/2021 08:35

Double glazing - especially as it’s -3 currently 😂
New bathroom
Add en-suite

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 23/01/2021 08:37

My house is just perfect for us. Only thing I'd change is magically insulate the old bits that are hard to hear. But often when the kids are in bed I walk around and get such a thrill from how lovely it is. Finished a year long extension and renovation last March.

radioband · 23/01/2021 08:41

Redo the conservatory to make it a useable room, redo the drive and front garden and fix the creeky floorboards.

Icenii · 23/01/2021 08:47

A larger garden. Larger dinning room. An outside cat so we can open the doors in summer.

missbunnyrabbit · 23/01/2021 08:54

Bay windows at the front!
Bigger rooms all over (they are TINY).
Big, grassy garden (only have a tiny yard).

Can I have one more?

A loft conversion!!
