Or are you happy with your lot? Smile

Just one thing. Bigger. Love my tiny Hampshire cottage but it’s tiny! Looking to move to Yorkshire this year to be nearer family so I should be able to upsize.

AlwaysLatte · 22/01/2021 22:16

I love our house, it's really perfect for us with plenty of space as it's tucked down a lane with fields around. The only things I miss are mains drainage and a proper view. We're in a dip in this part of the village and the sunset disappears over the top of the trees. I'd also like to be able to knock our kitchen through to our dining room but because of big old beams in the way we can't.

Change the flat extension roof to match the main roof

Sort out the heating so it is more equal

Carpets

Bathroom toilet is wrong and a bigger bath

Kitchen fridge and other faffy bits

TeenTraumaTrials · 22/01/2021 22:18

Better insulation
Garden not to be ant infested
Turned 15 degrees so we got sun beyond 5pm in the back garden

The first point is the only reason I'd consider a new build - I'm always cold in the house even with heating on

thisnthat · 22/01/2021 22:18

I would:
1)Change the tiny hallway to incorporate the stairs rather than them coming down directly into the living room.
2) Knock down the conservatory and change to a proper brick built extension and thereby have a really large kitchen/dining/living space.
3) make the pitch of the roof much higher so we could incorporate a loft bedroom/dressing room/en-suite.

But saying that I love so many things about my house that none of the above are essential unless we suddenly come into a lot of money!

Soundproofing one one side where there is a recent converted addition to the building
A porch
A utility room in the side return

Rainbows89 · 22/01/2021 22:19
  1. I would like parking.
  2. I would like to be on a quiet street. We are currently on a main road and I think it has less of
A community feel.
  1. Our garden is tiny and I would happily have a bigger back garden.
PollyPorcupine · 22/01/2021 22:20

I'd add an extension with a downstairs loo, a utility room, and most importantly a playroom so I don't have to move eleventymillion toys in the living room before I can sit down to relax every evening.

Chutneymaura · 22/01/2021 22:21

The porch, it’s mouldy. Rest of it is lovely!

Ohandanotherthing · 22/01/2021 22:21

I often dream about 20k falling into my lap and it would be spent ...

More efficient central heating, too many plumbers spoiled the broth and having a combi boiler for instant hot water, it takes about 5 minutes for the hot to reach the kitchen taps; also should have gone for underfloor heating in the kitchen (big kitchen diner and radiators just don't keep it warm.

Replacing windows with triple-glazed for warmth and sound-proofing (on a main road) some windows are still wooden.

And in the garden; astroturfing just the top of the garden where the grass never grows due to shade and is muddy and it's the favourite part of the garden for the dog so I spend ages cleaning muddy paws.

Veuvestar · 22/01/2021 22:21

I really want a real fireplace, the previous owners spared no expense building the extension living room. Beautiful windows, replicated all the Edwardian features, built a gorgeous marble fireplace. But it’s fake, the chimney breast is just made of plywood.

HalfBrick · 22/01/2021 22:22

Location
Flat garden
Less artex Smile

SquidInALid · 22/01/2021 22:22

Doors onto garden, a porch/ entrance extension and a patio. Otherwise totally perfect for us.

Would love a summer house too

RosesAndHellebores · 22/01/2021 22:23

When we renovated I really wish we had installed an office room above the garage now 4 of us are working from home. Might do it yet. First World problem I appreciate.

Pascha · 22/01/2021 22:24

I'd chop the bloody great tree down in the front garden and plant a nice big hedge.

Bigger 3rd bedroom

Bigger back garden.

Mochatatts · 22/01/2021 22:24

An extra downstairs room
A garden instead of a yard
A third bedroom

Imiss2019 · 22/01/2021 22:25

Take the conservatory down
Have the garden landscaped
Make the family bathroom bigger

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 22/01/2021 22:26

Upstairs bathroom. Running down 2 and half flights of stairs at night is not fun.

Demolish the useless garage (it's massive but the car won't fit through the awkward gap between us and the neighbours) and replace it with an extension to the playroom.

Remove most of the floor beds from our terraced tiered garden.

I have the plans roughly figured out in my head for when we feel things are more stable financially.

CarolEffingBaskin · 22/01/2021 22:27

I'd replumb the entire house, because the heating is so loud turning on and banging and we've tried everything but can't fix it.
I'd replace both bathrooms, which would hopefully then have better water pressure because of the aforementioned replumbing. This would include some sort of light tunnel in one bathroom as it's windowless and that's grim.
I'd box in the stairs, which includes making the stairs so that they're not open tread. I hate the open treads so much!

That said, I do love our house, and we're rented so cannot do any of the above. Sad

tinkerbellvspredator · 22/01/2021 22:27

Move it to a quieter street, preferably next to the park or woods near us.
Add a front garden including driveway, instead of just a very small concrete patch at the front.
Bit bigger garden.

ReefTeeth · 22/01/2021 22:27

We used to live in a 2 bed end terrace.

When we talked about what we'd like in our next house I always said 3 bed, 2 bathrooms, driveway and detached.

Well I got that, and a double garage, in our next house.

Except now I want to add an extra living area.

No pleasing some people 🤐

dairydairy · 22/01/2021 22:31

Electric light in all rooms
Mains sewage not a septic tank
Gas not oil

0blio · 22/01/2021 22:31

Move bathroom upstairs
Add another bedroom
And move the house 300 miles away

coronafiona · 22/01/2021 22:32

South facing garden, bigger hallway, glass roof in the kitchen

HappyInChaos · 22/01/2021 22:33

A second bathroom.
Extra bedroom to our needs when we moved in.
No conservatory, we wanted one, now we have one and it's too cold in winter, too hot in summer.

Smaller garden. Again, we wanted a bigger garden but now realise it's just extra work with little reward. We would probably enjoy a smaller garden just as much, if not more.

I guess it's a case of the grass is always greener on the other side!
