Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

OP posts:
carosel2 · 28/04/2021 11:59

@Chrissols: - that's really kind of you to say, wish my doctor was as nice! lol I am on tablets now, which will help eat the sugar! and trying to cut down, but doing it by smaller portions rather than cutting out, my hubby was beginning to ask which was his dinner plate! Grin. I have done it before so a bit of will power should help, (easier said than done haha)
DICT8 very quiet today, wonder where all the work has gone, after being prompted they are nearly 70% back to normal and getting busier by the day, not at my end it aint! LOL

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 12:04

@carosel2 that's exactly how I am doing it, I am not depriving myself of anything, just trying to keep fat and carbs to a minimum. My hubby tends not to eat big meals but then picks biscuits and treats all day and never puts an ounce on.......so unfair

deewu · 28/04/2021 13:17

Does anyone get frustrated with names, why when the dictator cannot pronounce a name do they not just spell it out rather than changing it several times in the letter, it is driving me mad today.

Well done on all the weight losses and healthy eating.

Meha5a · 28/04/2021 13:59

@danblack87 - my annoyance is proof readers who think you should search the internet for the correct spelling of names !!! DICT8 needs to make its mind up if we are transcribers or secretaries. Might be an idea if the doctors had a note box of their own to type in the names and addresses.

Gally123 · 28/04/2021 14:34

@Meha5 - unfortunately I think it is in the DICT8 instruction booklet that we have to google names and also addresses, if given, to make sure they are correct. I hate the nurses who give the full patient's address as then I have to google the road names and areas etc, not too bad if they give the correct post code.

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 15:13

I queried feedback once that I got on spelling a name incorrectly and was told that the proof reader had been incorrect in pulling me up about it and was told it was absolutely ok to spell names phonetically, never been pulled up for it since 😊

OP posts:
Meha5a · 28/04/2021 15:27

@Chrissols - I queried this and was told the same (although it was years ago)

Gally123 · 28/04/2021 15:49

@Chrissols - was that the patient's name or doctor's name?

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 15:54

@Gally123 it was the doctor's name

Very busy start to the day.......which is good as it is a bank holiday weekend so am guessing Monday will be very quiet

musicismagic333 · 30/04/2021 10:23

Have just ordered a foot pedal, and going to go through the instructions over the weekend for Dict8, especially as it's due to rain!

Chrissols · 30/04/2021 10:36

@musicismagic333 Dict8 is really easy, you just switch on and type, no saving documents or anything like that. Just remember to check your work before sending as the proof readers can be pretty harsh at times, don't take it personally if you get feedback.

Gally123 · 30/04/2021 14:20

I hope everyone received the email from DICT8 informing us that they are doing work on their system starting at 10am tomorrow for a few hours, so to complete anything by then. Also, obviously, there will be no typing available for a few hours.

I hope any work they do is successful and does not lead to any problems afterwards as in my experience often things do not always run as smoothly as planned...(must remember to log in and test it before Tuesday).

musicismagic333 · 30/04/2021 14:39

I didn't get that email so thanks for the warning.

Chrissols · 30/04/2021 14:56

@Gally123 I got the email, then immediately after got one to say there is a lot of work waiting, there is actually less than there has been all week. I'm guessing they are wanting in cleared before the maintenance work.

danblack87 · 01/05/2021 14:01

@Chrissols and @Gally123: I got the e-mail about the system being updated so did my tax return instead. However, on looking at 1pm and 2pm the system is still down [!!!]. Hey ho, I achieved something LOL

danblack87 · 01/05/2021 14:17

@Gally123: We are back on-line with Dict8. There seems to be a problem with the dictionary/spell checker - a lot of words are missing from the spell checker so loads of words came up 'red' which were all in fact correct!!! How frustrating.

danblack87 · 01/05/2021 14:35

Simple words like 'organise' and 'compressive', 'ongoing' and general standard 'test names' have not been recognised !!!!??? Oh dear.

Chrissols · 01/05/2021 14:38

@danblack87 yes, I have noticed my dictionary is American now, it's going to be starting from scratch. As you say, general test names, and consultant names.....all gone 😫😫

OP posts:
danblack87 · 01/05/2021 15:07

Sad, annoying, frustrating - I wonder if there is way to change the dictionary to English ? I am giving up today, I just don't have the energy now for this. Off to play scrabble with my fella, buffet bits and some lovely Gin and Vimto!!

Gally123 · 01/05/2021 15:35

@Chrissols @danblack87 I've not looked yet but it sounds awful. I wonder if someone bought an upgrade package and forgot to check the small print and assumed that spellings etc would be English as they have always insisted on this in the past. (I have noticed that TPro also has a lot of American spellings even though they insist on English -as well as some odd ones, there is a doctor who is constantly represented as saying "this plesant lady" and "plesant" is marked as correct). Perhaps DICT8 don't know about these changes. Going to be very time consuming to put all the names back etc.

@danblack87 you are keen to do your tax return! Not had the reminder yet. I did my first one in May but since then it is normally June or July.

danblack87 · 01/05/2021 15:44

@Gally123: hahaha I wasn't keen to do it (I hate the job) but I had time on my hands to do it so I thought I would get it out of the way ... I got the letter beginning of the week. Ages to do it but just thought today would be a good day as loose-ended workwise and daughter away with grandchild in Norfolk for the weekend (Peace LOL). Tackling grant application from HMRC tomorrow afternoon whilst Sunday roast is cooking!!!

deewu · 01/05/2021 16:00

Not only is it an American spell checker but some words will not add to the personal dictionary even though it says it has been added, so I guess just wait until the proofreaders get really fed up with it which won't take long and it might get changed. I think this happened last time but not quite so bad.

flutterby18 · 01/05/2021 16:30

I have just informed them about the dictionary/spellchecker, so will wait and see if it gets fixed. They may be unaware of it as they are not end users Smile.

Chrissols · 01/05/2021 17:06

Lets hope we get everything back we saved if they correct it, but I'm not holding out much hope.
