Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

Hi: work showing from me but the dictations are diabolical to say the least. Just had a cup a tea and an hour distraction with my daughter whose car broke down at the childminders (managed to get it to mine and was waiting for AA)!!. Off on her way to work now. So, I will attempt to work again in about 15 mins Hmm

Chrissols · 26/04/2021 10:26

@danblack87 yes, I have to old my hand up, I have just put a task back as it would have taken so long to decipher what was being said that it wasn't worth it

A very slow start for me as well, with lots of gaps. Normally Mondays are a bit better, I find the middle of the week is poor for me.

flutterby18 · 26/04/2021 10:47

I had absolutely loads over the weekend and now lots and lots of gaps in between tasks available (and the ones available are absolutely awful dictations). Smile

danblack87 · 26/04/2021 11:34

Mostly awful tasks so far but 'pushing through' !!

Meha5a · 26/04/2021 14:10

When your computer updates and wipes all your passwords, sound and slows to a snails pace 😳😳 one of Those weeks 🙄 and to top it all some weird feedback from our dear proof readers - oh well they say it comes in 3s 😳😳

Gally123 · 26/04/2021 15:04

@Meha5 - I feel for you - I've had updates that wiped out all my passwords and I remember the one a few years ago that stopped all the dictations as 1 min 13 seconds, and I think we have all had the weird feedback at sometime, but not, as you say, all at the same time. My laptop has been a bit slow for a couple of weeks now but I am told that it is probably slow internet that is the fault. I hope your day gets better.

danblack87 · 26/04/2021 18:30

Long day, slow gain ... hot bubble bath and wine xx

musicismagic333 · 27/04/2021 11:00

Hi all. Hope you're all well, it's been a while since I posted, but I've only just got my info pack for Dict8. I've always done audio-typing and now I'm going to work from home, only have a laptop. Would really like to work with a pedal and headphones, or certainly a pedal anyway. They've kindly given me suggestions, but would really appreciate your opinions on the best equipment. Thank you.

danblack87 · 27/04/2021 14:42

@musicismagic333: I had a foot pedal years ago but I found it interrupted so much on the system - nightmare. Not used one for about 7 years now!! Just one more thing to go wrong, but I am a complete technophobe!!!

Chrissols · 27/04/2021 14:53

@musicismagic333 I could not work without my foot pedal, but everyone is different. I got a philips foot pedal recommended by Dict8 but bought it from Amazon as it was cheaper. I also use full headphones as they block out noise so the dictation is clearer. I work on a desk top pc. Everyone has their own preferred way of working.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 27/04/2021 15:55

@musicismagic333 - I use a Philips foot pedal which I got through the Dictating Machine Co ltd that gives a small discount to DICT8 typists and it was cheaper that amazon or ebay and works with windows 10 etc. (My previous foot pedals were Panasonic which did not work with Windows 10, Chrome etc). I find it hard when the pedals break as they do speed things up. I use cheap ear phones, current set about £3 from Asda as it helps to cut out noise etc. The cost of these items can be deducted from your tax bill, which helps.

musicismagic333 · 27/04/2021 15:56

You don't know a real technophobe until you've met me, ask my kids!

Chrissols · 27/04/2021 16:16

How much does everybody deduct from their tax bill out of interest? My accountant last year gave me a straight £1000 deduction as if I had done it itemised it would have worked out less I'm sure, and £1000 is allowed?

OP posts:
Gally123 · 27/04/2021 16:47

@Chrissols - um if I was you I would change your accountant - is the £1,000 his fees by any chance? My tax deductions have varied over the last few years from £156 to £519 (when I bought a new laptop), last year was £185, including monthly printing of invoices at the library (20p each plus bus fare there and back), stamps, gas and electric, internet and phone (as the line needed for the internet). My uncle always says he keeps his fingers crossed that they don't check.

Chrissols · 27/04/2021 16:52

@Gally123, he is a very reputable accountant, and no his fees were nowhere near that amount. You are allowed by government guidelines a one of straight deduction of £1000, he forwarded me the relevant guidelines and yes they are definitely legit. The £1000 covers things like internet, heating, lighting, telephone etc etc, and most definitely legit.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 27/04/2021 16:54

@Gally123 I will keep my accountant as I would never have known about this if it were not for him

OP posts:
Gally123 · 27/04/2021 16:58

@Chrissols so why did you ask if £1,000 was allowed?

Chrissols · 27/04/2021 17:03

@Gally123 sorry, I should not have put the question mark as I wasn't asking if it was allowed, I knew it was. I just wondered if other folk were claiming more as no one seemed to mention it - I have just gone back through my paperwork and yes, they are legitimate government guidelines as they are on Gov.uk paperwork

OP posts:
carosel2 · 27/04/2021 21:42

@Chrissols- wow I don't earn anywhere near enough to pay tax never mind employing an accountant to write off monies Smile hopefully il be making a bit more with Tpro on board but today with dict8 has been shocking, new clients and need educating big time. Enough on but shocking dictation!

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 08:41

@carosel2 I only use an accountant as I work for two different companies (Dict8 and a private client), and also have a very small pension, so it's stops me getting mixed up, gives me peace of mind and he knows the loop holes I wouldn't have a clue about.

Feeling it's going to be a good day today, stood on the scales after dieting for two months.......18lb down.....boom 😀😀😀

OP posts:
carosel2 · 28/04/2021 10:41

@Chrissols - oh in that case I dnt blame you [smile}

Well don on the weight loss! wish I could celebrate with your weight, I have just been diagnosed with type II diabetes, but all my own fault, over indulging! though I am only 11 stone and 5ft 4in and a bmi of 26 so not that bad, but unfortunately sat a computer all day waiting for morsels of work last year, probs haven't done me any good. Anyway must stop blaming things, Ive just overindulged and eaten for England! Biscuit Wine Cake lol Grin

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 10:47

@carosel2 hopefully you will be able to control your diabetes through diet? I am also 5ft 4in but was nearly 14 stone!!! I am now 12st 9lb and would be happy to lose another stone. I don't think 11 stone and a BMI of 26 is bad at all, I would be very happy to be that weight.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 28/04/2021 11:06

@Chrissols: Well done with the weight loss, that is some going in two months.

Chrissols · 28/04/2021 11:10

@danblack87 thank you - I have been very strict with myself.....the only thing I could do better is exercise, but not easy sitting at a computer all day. It's slowed down now 1 - 2lb a week, but I'm happy with that if it keeps going in the right direction, want to be in a swim suit by October so slowly slowly now. My biggest fear is when I reach my goal how to keep it there........
