Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

I've been typing mostly Tpro as DICT8 has either been a big fat nothing or people talking so quietly it is impossible to make out what they are saying, or people dictating at a good volume but unintelligible. I have even had a couple of emails announcing lots of work on the system, but I have not seen work for the specialties mentioned.

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 07:49

@Gally123 how strange, I haven’t had a single email yet there has been tons of work

OP posts:
Gally123 · 20/04/2021 08:03

@Chrissols - I had one email yesterday and I think two last week (both on same day). Work does seem to be picking up, but not first thing. There was nothing yesterday but I first logged on, which is unusual for a Monday. (Luckily masses on Tpro).

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 08:22

@Gally123 there certainly seems a lot more people working weekends and evenings than there ever was......probably all the secretaries that were given free access and now making a tidy second income

Lovemydaxie · 20/04/2021 08:27

Had a fairly good day yesterday once it got going from late morning. Few files this morning, but nothing at the moment. Hopefully, it will pick up again during the morning.

Gally123 · 20/04/2021 08:32

@Chrissols - I have not seen anything for DICT8 at the weekends for months, (but have done some Tpro).

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 08:35

@Gally123 I’ve seen a bit at weekends, but when I look late evening during the week there have usually been 50+ lately but all gone by morning

danblack87 · 20/04/2021 09:29

Hi all, I was reasonably busy yesterday with Dict8 and I am seeing a few so far this morning ... hopefully, it will pick up throughout the day!!

carosel2 · 20/04/2021 09:45

@Gally123 @Chrissols - had to eat humble pie and asked to be taken back on with Tpro, Blush and they were so kind about it. I am so glad I did as I am now getting in to the swing of things and getting quicker, so the low rate is actually comparing to the DICT8, and is working out same rate, as two letters of Tpro equals to one of DICT8, and with it being VR I find it much quicker to do. It has been a life saver for me as DICT8 hit and miss, plus I have got my specialities with Tpro and I have found the others I have picked at random are actually easier to understand than my own lol, as not as much terminology involved and just straight forward based letters. I have plenty of work with Tpro every day

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 10:09

@carosel2 I have all but finished on Tpro as haven't done any work for them for over a month, I have been kept going with Dict8. I have half expected an email from them but nothing as yet. I much prefer Dict8 work even though I am on the higher rate with Tpro. I am still unsure what happens when it comes to tax with Tpro also, does anyone know how this works?

OP posts:
Gally123 · 20/04/2021 10:09

@carosel2 - I am glad you changed your mind as I certainly find Tpro helps with all the work in the evenings and weekends plus I find the Irish accents ok (there are some other accents not sure of!) and on the whole the quality of dictation is very good. As you say, I find some of the specialties I would not normally do are easier with the VR and with time it works out okay money wise, esp as DICT8 is, as you say, hit and miss. Plus the emailing of invoices and direct payment is great!

carosel2 · 20/04/2021 10:39

@Chrissols - not sure of tax, but if euro is converted to sterling in your bank would you not be submitting that amount (sterling) on your self assessment here.? not sure though. I like having both to work against as DICT8 can be quite monotonous just typing away all the time, and trying to fathom out crap dictation, as with Tpro you can sit back and listen and just add in the necessary
@Gally123 - yes I don't struggle too much with the accent as you can always slow them down. I have done some over the weekend and evenings when having nothing to do and nothing on TV Smile it has helped enormously. I'm in for making the most money I have done so in a while since staying with them, (that is combined with DICT8 of course) Smile

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 10:46

@carosel2, yes it would be submitting the sterling amount, just wondered who the tax would actually be paid to?

OP posts:
Chrissols · 20/04/2021 10:52

I think I am fortunate with my specialities in Dict8 as 90% of them are very easy to understand, just the one one that isn't and drives me up the wall. I did pick up another specialty when they sent the email round but found that to be awful so asked them to remove it - glad I did now with work picking up so much. I am getting a lot of 20+ minute ones now which is great.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 20/04/2021 11:36

@Chrissols - oh I see what you mean, not sure I am understanding this either, I thought the tax man here would just deduct from you what you earn anyway (that's if you make enough to pay tax in the first place, which I won't! lol). Nice to hear you are getting the work coming through, I think it will pick up for us all eventually, fingers crossed! Smile

Gally123 · 20/04/2021 11:45

I don't think the tax situation will be too difficult as Tpro have not mentioned anything and it could apply to them too - think of all the TV adverts about Brexit and hiring people from overseas. However, I think Ireland is exempt.

I have an uncle who is self-employed, has been for about 20-30 years and never mentioned anything I should be aware of (he only said when he sold a magazine article to a German company he insisted on being paid in Sterling). My friend who is an author on Amazon had to register with USA and fill in their tax form with her UK tax details (USA and UK have a tax agreement of some sort) to ensure she pays tax in UK and every year they send her a form with the amount of USA dollars she has earned, but she has never had to fill in forms for other countries where she has sold books.

If I remember correctly there is a question on the tax form asking if you have received more than £100 from overseas but not sure what happens if you then answer "yes" - no doubt will find out this year, but as I say, TPro have not mentioned anything we need to be aware of so I am sure it will not be a problem.

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 11:45

@carosel2 yes it will probably be very straight forward, hopefully anyway.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 20/04/2021 12:00

@Gally123 - yes the form asks questions about receiving other monies, so perhaps it will be highlighted then Smile

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 18:42

over 100 tasks showing......not seen in like that in over a year!! There will be none in the morning though and I really have had enough for today

OP posts:
Gally123 · 20/04/2021 18:58

@Chrissols - when you asked for the new specialty you picked up to be removed did they comment in anyway? I am still thinking about a specialty that I picked up possibly about 3 years ago but I don't really like doing but have delayed dropping it in case there is any come back (ie from the nameless one) and I get less work as a result. I admit it was handy in lockdown as without it I would have been much worse off, but now I am finding it a bit of a handicap as about 75% of the dictations are dire so probably not worth pursuing for the remaining few. But on days like today, it seems to be all I am offered, hence I do Tpro instead.

Chrissols · 20/04/2021 19:20

@Gally123 it was fine, I did say I was only wanting to trial it though so it was agreed I would try it and let them know within the week what I decided

OP posts:
Gally123 · 20/04/2021 20:44

@Chrissols - thanks. When I first took on this specialty (at their request) it was fine, there were a couple of hospitals, now departed, who gave better dictation, one lady in particular was a joy, but now there is a "newer" hospital and they are all a nightmare, one in particular changes her mind frequently throughout her letter ("I saw this lady, spoke to this lady, spoke to Mary Smith, Mrs Smith in clinic today" etc) grrr. I was going to ask to drop it a year ago, before lockdown etc. It was on the list they recently offered round so I was hoping people might give it a try and I would not end up with it blocking everything but recently it has been dreadful. However, one of my other specialties I typed the main hospital has gone VR so I know the reason I no longer get that.

However, this hospital might leave, as others have, or there could be other changes afoot - I think it a bit strange they offered these new people contracts, but then put their accounts on hold but offered more work to existing typists. I do think changes are coming re new regulations etc.

carosel2 · 20/04/2021 21:38

@Gally123- I wouldnt worry, I have tried 2 or 3 in past but just couldnt fathom them out and sent them back as like you say it blocked the good specialities coming through as they were more backdated. I was told it didnt matter at all giving them back but that was before lockdown but at the end of the day its your choice. Good luck at least you will start seeing your other specialties Smile

homeworkmum · 21/04/2021 08:09

Good morning all.
Oh it has been so long since I have been on here (had some other things going on). It is lovely to see things picking back up.
With the new specialities, I had experience in two - got one but oh the dictations were bad. I had absolutely no issue asking for it to be removed. I was then given the other and it has been amazing, what a difference :)
I did think about joining accuro recently but the money they were offering would just be a waste of time and effort.
The ladies with T-pro, can I ask - how long from applying does it take for them to get back to you?
Oh well time to log in and get the fingers tapping - here is hoping for another good day!

Chrissols · 21/04/2021 10:49

@homeworkmum I heard back from T-pro almost immediately and was up and running with them in less than a week. Having said that, I rarely do any work for them now as Dict8 has picked up nicely and I much prefer Dict8. Accuro's pay is pretty grim, goodness knows how they get transcribers to work for them, it's beyond me? I did a short spell with them some time ago but it's way way less than minimum wage.
