Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

I'm not seeing any work today, I wonder if dict9 have taken on a lot of new transcribers?

@Chrissols - I am seeing a steady work but only less than 10 at any one time.
Re doctors typing their own work, I was asked by a new consultant to do his private work and I tentatively agreed having not done private stuff before, however he wanted me to do everything, not just typing but appointments and take private phone calls etc all using NHS equipment and in NHS time (so he could pay less etc) so I said no. He then started to type his own letters before eventually arranging typing services at the private hospital. We laughed when the woman phoned to say she had lost his first tape and could he do it again.

Gally123 · 08/04/2021 10:38

@Chrissols - remember that DICT8 did ask existing typists if they wanted to increase their specialties.

Chrissols · 08/04/2021 10:40

@Gally123 Yes I remember that, but I am seeing no work whatsoever

@Chrissols - it is also still Easter Holidays and schools are off so some doctors will be on holiday, cancelled clinics, delays in uploading etc.

@Chrissols Your little typo made me laugh. Do you know something the rest of us don't? Are Dict8 actually so called because they pay 8 pence a line. Are we about to get a long overdue pay rise??!!
Chrissols · 08/04/2021 11:07

@Poppy379 hahahaha.......I have just seen it, maybe it's an omen and we are all going to 9p a line 😂😂😂

Well guys who work for Tpro, I have decided to give up, as I have worked all last week and Easter for nothing more than something like £30. (the work wasn't too difficult as it involved my specialities) other than getting used to the different ways of doing things. All the time and effort put in just wasn't worth it at such a low return even though they said I hadn't given it time as I would get quicker, but no matter how quick I got it still equated to less than 4 pence per line, which is half of Dict8. If I had concentrated on Dict8 last week, I would have got at least £100 even with less work coming in. I suppose it would have been okay for weekends, but then when you have sat all week at a computer you don't really want to do weekends as well do you. Shame because they are such lovely people to work for, but then being nice doesn't pay the bills Sad Lets hope Dict8's promise of more work in the next couple of months happens!

Chrissols · 08/04/2021 11:28

@carosel2 I was going to give Tpro up as there seemed to be enough work coming in with Dict8 but hadn't got round to telling them, luckily as I have been doing some today as Dict8 was very quiet up till half an hour ago. The months I have worked for Tpro I have been making around £400 though so £30 does seem very low. I have only ever done a day or two a week for them so on average around £50-£60 a day. I just find Dict8 more enjoyable.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 08/04/2021 11:35

@carosel2 I type for TPRO in the gaps during the day when there is nothing with DICT8 or in the evenings when I have done something else during the day. As you say, it pays less than DICT8 but I feel it is better than nothing. It all helps to pay the bills. Maybe if more people who they have taken on at the low rate quit they might increase it a little, but probably not.

carosel2 · 08/04/2021 11:51

@Gally123 yes I agree, the low rate is not good at all especially when they have skilled typists like us. She did say if I ever wanted to rejoin to just email as she said the accuracy of my work and volume was excellent, but no mention of an increase, as if she had, I would have carried on. When I was typing last week, I was missing work on DICT8 too
@Chrissols - I seem to remember you saying you got the higher rate which was near to Dict8 so yes I can imagine you would still want to carry on. I would have done the same if I had got the same Smile

Cherryblossom114 · 11/04/2021 17:08

Hello Everyone
I'm new here. I've signed up with Dict8, done the agreement 3 months ago but have not had any task. How long did it take when you got given your first task to signing the agreement. The next stage is to set up an accourt they said but not heard anymore since then.

Gally123 · 11/04/2021 17:28

@Cherryblossom114 - I signed with DICT8 several years ago but I am sure my account was set up almost immediately I signed the agreement and I was able to started typing.

I did have some delay, however as my offer of contract got lost in the post. Once I emailed in to query the delay everything proceeded quite quickly. Have you been in touch with them since to ask? They might think you have changed your mind.

Cherryblossom114 · 11/04/2021 18:05

Thanks for replying.
Probably a good idea to chase them but I wasnt sure if I should do that as they confirmed receipt of the agreement to say the next step is to set up the account and they will let me know when it's done. That took 4 months to get the agreement with chasing, so I am thinking that's the pace or is it because of the pandemic or theres not enough work !!

Gally123 · 11/04/2021 19:16

@Cherryblossom114 - I know, it is difficult sometimes to decide how much to push. I suspect it may be that the bulk of the office staff are still working from home, but I cannot see any reason for a delay once a contract has been signed - as far as I would be concerned you now work for them. With other companies I have typed for in similar fashion I had access to the work for typing the day after signing.

Curlykris · 11/04/2021 22:42

Hi, I too have been waiting since January for a start date so emailed them Friday to chase up. Had a reply to say unable to tell when it will be due to current covid situation with clinics not up and running fully but will be in touch, so it's just a case of patiently waiting unfortunately.

Cherryblossom114 · 11/04/2021 23:06

Hi, thanks for all the info. That's interesting to know the situation. Sounds like you've done the right thing. I will follow suit and update 🙂

flutterby18 · 12/04/2021 11:46

Someone just said the F word on my dictation Shock, don't get paid enough to listen to that. Should I type it, as we are supposed to type everything we hear Grin

Gally123 · 12/04/2021 12:15

@flutterby18 - in what context? was he/she muttering to themselves? Raging about someone else? Or was it someone with English not first language who mistook the word? We used to have a consultant in my local hospital who regularly swore when dictating, moaning about things in general.

If I heard it in dictation I might just put a comment "I am unsure of this word" but not type the word so someone has to listen to it.

It always used to make me laugh when our nurse practitioner used to say patient had "bloody diarrhoea" or "bleeding haemorrhoids."

flutterby18 · 12/04/2021 12:30

@Gally123 - Sounds like he dropped something and then just said F**k very loudly lol. I haven't typed it by the way Smile

SamanthaBee · 12/04/2021 16:42

I once has swearing on a task. I reported it to Dict8 and had a phone call to apologise. It should probably be flagged up.

flutterby18 · 12/04/2021 17:14

@SamanthaBee - Thanks, I was considering doing that too, but wasn't sure.

Meha5 · 12/04/2021 20:41

had a few mispronounced words that sounded a bit iffy but no outright swearing 🤣🤣

danblack87 · 14/04/2021 09:31

Hi All, work for me has been steady ... caught a few Easter weekend. I hear the odd swear word - but usually down to (something happening in the office at the time of dictation). If the sentence makes sense without I leave it out; if I am not sure I mark it as a message "?word here hahahaha. As I recall, many moons back, once I signed my agreement with Dict8 I was up and running with tasks within a week.

Chrissols · 19/04/2021 19:28

Everybody nice and busy? Quiet on here so that’s got to be a good sign ⌨️⌨️⌨️
