Pay with Dict8

Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

Hi - hope I'm okay to join the thread! Nice to see Dict8 discussion. I've worked for them since 2010, obviously with no pay rise. Recently started to look at other companies - WeType, Sterling, Way with Words and Accuro. They all pay roughly the same at about 45-50 p per audio minute. Decided to compare them with Dict8's 8 pence per line and, surprise, Dict8 pays roughly double at an average of 92 p per audio minute! Did this over 2 days' work last weekend for each task - the least well paid task worked out at 61 p per audio minute and the best at £1.27, depending on how fast the dictation was and how much they crammed into an audio minute. Maybe not so badly paid after all, and definitely overpaid in 2010!! I've been accepted by Accuro but at 45 p for an A.M. I won't be taking them up :)

SamanthaBee · 31/03/2021 18:23

I agree, the rate most companies offer is a bit of an insult.

Poppy379 · 31/03/2021 18:46

Hi @dobboflex. I did exactly the same comparison when I was offered work with Accuro. I spent a couple of days typing my Dict8 work and after each task worked out how much I would be paid if I had done the same task by Accuro - it was always less. What really made me laugh (and I'm pretty sure it was Accuro, but I've been round the block a bit trying out with various different companies over the years) that they ask you what you want to receive per audio minute up to 90p/min I think, and then if you put anything over 45p/min they tell you that you haven't got a hope in hell of getting any work if you want to be paid more!! I can't understand why they don't just tell transcribers that they will all start on a flat rate of 45p/min in the first place.

dobboflex · 31/03/2021 21:32

Hi @poppy379 - I found exactly the same thing. No guidance whatsoever on the application form just asking you what you were expecting to earn. I put down 50p because a woman at work has just been offered 50p per hour with Accuro. I then got an email from Chloe which was quite short and to the point basically saying if I wanted to get any work at all 50p was too much and to let her know if I changed my mind! I emailed her back saying 45p would be fine and I only put 50p because there was absolutely no guidance on the website about what to charge. I applied before lockdown and was accepted but just as they were setting up my account lockdown happened and they put my account on hold. Had an email last week saying they were now ready to go ahead but since then, I’ve done the maths and worked out that I’m actually far better off with Dict8 so doubt I’ll be doing any work for Accuro or any of the other companies if it’s working out at approximately half of what Dict8 are paying. The work volume appears to be picking up on Dict8 And compared to what it used to be like the quality of dictations has generally improved a lot (for me anyway!)

Chrissols · 01/04/2021 10:27

@Poppy379 @dobboflex I worked for a quite a while for Accuro but it was just not worth it. They start giving you dictations that are so hard to understand that the pay sometimes worked out as £4 an hour!!! Don't know how they get away with it really.

First quiet day with Dict8 for a good while today, still it is early I guess

OP posts:
Gally123 · 01/04/2021 11:10

@Chrissols - I am seeing work but it is all such poor quality - so quiet you cannot hear it or lots of background noise etc. Think I have done about 4 letters since 8am. Shame as yesterday was a good start before all the poor quality stuff came in later.

Chrissols · 01/04/2021 15:50

@Gally123 it did get really busy again, and a lot of 20 - 30 minute ones. It certainly seems to be a lot more constant now.

Not seen a single task today on DICT8 Sad and with now Easter hols, it is going to be very quiet

Chrissols · 02/04/2021 11:55

Good Friday today so not really expecting to see much

OP posts:
Gally123 · 02/04/2021 12:33

I have typed before at Easter, usually in the mornings, as there are always doctors on call and they sometimes have outstanding work to download.

carosel2 · 02/04/2021 13:39

Can't believe nothing today whatsoever! not even a single task.

Gally123 · 02/04/2021 13:54

@carosel2 - but it is a Bank Holiday today. No clinics.

Chrissols · 02/04/2021 14:04

I've seen a couple but never quick enough to get them

OP posts:
carosel2 · 02/04/2021 15:24

@Gally123 - that's true and everything I typed yesterday was up to date. I have been glad of tpro today! Smile, although my return won't be much on the rates I have lol

dobboflex · 02/04/2021 15:51

Done 160 lines by 12 today, not great and this afternoon nil but Saturday normally ok. No-go Easter Sunday tho, not expecting great things Monday either but you never know. The private hospitals might keep going and give us some work

Gally123 · 04/04/2021 11:46

Happy Easter everyone! Hope you are all having a good break and the sun is shining where you are (it is here at the moment, however internet seems to be playing up, can't have everything I suppose).

Chrissols · 04/04/2021 12:05

@Gally123 and a Happy Easter to you. My internet has been iffy for weeks, Sky were supposed to fix it yesterday but didn’t bother turning up. Going to go with BT I think as sky are just terrible at customer service. Still, the sun is shining here too 🌞🌞🌻🌻

Meha5 · 05/04/2021 16:25

Happy Easter 🐰(sorry about the evil looking bunny LOL).

@Chrissols BT are excellent for broadband very fast and reliable had mine with them for years.

Chrissols · 05/04/2021 16:31

@Meha5 that’s good to hear. Sky have driven me round the bend

OP posts:
Meha5 · 06/04/2021 15:38

FFS the dictation today is worthy of the swearing 😫

Gally123 · 06/04/2021 16:49

@Meha5 - I know. I just wish DICT8 or someone would force certain doctors to listen and then when they cannot hear what they have said they might be a bit more considerate. This is the problem with farmed out work; secretaries in hospitals are able to speak to the people involved and if that does not work then the consultant in charge will sort it out. (I know, sometimes the consultant can be pretty bad). It is just laziness a lot of the time.

Chrissols · 07/04/2021 10:23

Slow start to the day, all having a lie in

OP posts:
Meha5 · 07/04/2021 12:14

@Gally123 - must be some new hospitals as this lot cannot string a sentence together this week 🙄 makes me wonder how some passed their exams !!!!!!

Chrissols · 07/04/2021 12:22

@Meha5 I used to say that when I worked in the hospitals. .....my biggest bug bear was when they typed their own as people would assume it had been done by us and the quality of the work was diabolical
