Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

@danblack87 - lucky you, if you don't already know! You made me smile!

Furries · 25/02/2021 15:26

Was surprised to see a thread re transcription services, but thought I’d pop on quickly.

Someone I know pretty well used to work for DICT8. She got fed up with them and left a while ago to work in an office for a couple of years. She’s now wfh again for a transcription company called McGowan. She’s pretty much always busy (a few quiet points as the pandemic unfolded). She says the software/systems they use is good. And that the support/feedback/etc from head office and other transcribers is really good.

I don’t think they’re purely medical-focussed. But might be worth looking into.

danblack87 · 25/02/2021 16:05

@Gally123: I have only had one run-in so I suspect it is the person of whom you speak!!!

Gally123 · 25/02/2021 16:14

@danblack87 - yes, if you query any feedback etc she is the person who responds (it never used to be when I first started).

I just looked at the McGowan's transcription, they do have a medical section tucked away but I think you need to go through hoops to apply - does anyone working from home have one of those disclosure certificates? They brought them in just before I left the hospital.

danblack87 · 25/02/2021 16:19

I do not have a disclosure certificate... is that important?

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 16:25

@Gally123 do you mean a DBS? I have one, I just automatically renew it every year, goodness knows why as I have no intention of going back out to the workplace again........

OP posts:
Gally123 · 25/02/2021 16:39

@Chrissols- yes they want one of those. I thought there were expensive. Well you could apply and your certificate would come in useful after all!

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 16:43

@Gally123 hahaha......I don't think I want to apply anywhere else, seem to be kept going at the moment. I honestly cannot remember what mine cost but seem to think it was in the region of £27. They came down in price for some reason when they change from a CRB to a DBS

OP posts:
Gally123 · 25/02/2021 16:54

@Chrissols - oh that's not too bad then; I thought they were nearer £80-£100, although £27 could just be to renew and the initial cost is more.

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 16:57

@Gally123 No, I have just had a look, it was £26 for a basic one or £44 for an enhanced one which really should only been needed if you are hands on with patients.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 25/02/2021 17:00

@Chrissols . Thanks, Handy to know, but I dont think I will apply to McGowans either - they want at least 4 days a week and it sounds like you need to type 90 mins of dictation (as opposed to work for 90 mins a day).

Chrissols · 26/02/2021 11:03

Another good busy day.......sadly I have to go to the dentist this afternoon 🦷🦷

OP posts:
Chrissols · 26/02/2021 11:17

@Gally123 have you looked on TPro today? Over 1000 tasks waiting - looks like loads of clinics have started up again as there are quite a few names there that have been missing for a while

OP posts:
Gally123 · 26/02/2021 11:26

@Chrissols - there is not that many on my TPro system, but enough.

I booked my holiday this morning for September - off to Guernsey, hopefully (tried last year). I requested a brochure on Monday after Boris' announcement, it arrived yesterday and I checked online last night for availability, arranged a call back for this morning and the price had gone up £100! Still it is booked and the trip I had wanted last year.

Chrissols · 26/02/2021 11:39

@Gally123 ahh that's great, love the Channel Isles. Yes holiday prices are going through the roof that's why I got booked early.......wish I'd booked for form October 2022 at the time time but never thought

I have found work has picked up in the last 3 weeks .. any else noticed that? I did not work for 2 days this week and have still reached my target?

Chrissols · 26/02/2021 15:54

@danblack87 I am shocked at how much work is available, it's gone from nothing to an endless stream......long may it continue - now, lets hope they don't take on hundreds of new transcribers so we are back to square one

carosel2 · 26/02/2021 16:14

Ive had slightly better but only in the fact when ive typed a letter another appears shortly after but not lots on system at all, it shows one letter at a time. Fortunately they have been good dictation but not enough to crack on and get my target. Im putting it down to perhaps its because my specialities organise lots of tests and operations and with Covid a lot have been put on hold which I know is true as im typing letters basically saying just that

Gally123 · 26/02/2021 16:46

I have had some better days and still some poor days, but the main problem is the deterioration in the quality of the dictations. Still I have earned more this month than last.

Poppy379 · 26/02/2021 16:53

Been another dire day - I can't understand why my work isn't picking up yet. Such a shame we have to play our cards close to our chests, as I'd love to know which are the specialties that are picking up. On the basis of previous comments in reference to 'she who must not be mentioned', it would also be really interesting to see if people typing for the same specialties have a very different experience as to the availability of work.

Oh well, it's a new month on Monday, so I'm going to start the week feeling positive and with the expectation that, finally, March will be the month that I start getting busy again. Fingers crossed there'll be plenty of work for us all.

Have a good weekend all.WineCakeGin

Chrissols · 26/02/2021 16:59

@Gally123 I have to agree about the quality, I wonder if they are bringing a lot of new locums in to catch up on backlog that are new to dictation

OP posts:
carosel2 · 27/02/2021 10:26

@Poppy379 - I've often thought too it would be good to be able to contact someone up who has the same specialty and ask how many tasks they are seeing as a few years ago I did question why hardly anything was was coming in (I only had one specialty at that time) to be told there were something like 40 to 60 tasks showing, but I had none. Shortly after, I got the list showing these tasks, then after a few days it went back to being few and far between again

Chrissols · 27/02/2021 10:54

@carosel2 @Poppy379 It would be great to have a little private facebook group but we can't even know each others names.....

OP posts:
danblack87 · 27/02/2021 13:42

@Poppy379 @Carosel 2: I agree; a private group could I suppose be set up using our on-line Dict8 names? Wouldn't have a clue how to do it though Confused

Gally123 · 27/02/2021 14:13

@danblack87 - With Facebook even with a private group - I belong to a few - you use your Facebook profile (name and photo).
