Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

My other half (although we do not live together) has had his first vaccine injection too Smile

Chrissols · 23/02/2021 10:02

Going back to my question a few days ago about how people type the ones that don't make sense and the general consensus was to type exactly how it is dictated. I have just had feedback telling me to flag up anything that does not make sense......that's going to be a lot more typing in the message box.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 23/02/2021 11:50

@Chrissols: I always type what they say BUT if, to me, it does not make grammatical sense then I do 'flag it'. It's a ball-ache if it is a long task though (unfortunately, long tasks are few and far between so not so many notes in the box!!). I do alter the odd thing to make sense so long as it does not disturb overtly (i.e. only the odd word, insert punctuation) and I have had no problems in that regard recently Wink.

Meha5 · 23/02/2021 20:25

I do flag up sometimes if it is utter crap

danblack87 · 24/02/2021 13:21

HI All: I have decided not work today - need a day off Smile

Chrissols · 24/02/2021 13:36

@danblack87 Enjoy your day off, I had most of yesterday off

Just pickling about - tidying my office and getting my accounts in order!

Chrissols · 24/02/2021 16:48

Been so busy today, and had one of the old emails last night saying lots of work waiting to be done. Daren't get too complacent but hopefully things are on the up......

OP posts:
Gally123 · 24/02/2021 17:23

@Chrissols - I have had a cr*p day following a "slight" difference of opinion with "her" in the office and as usually happens after such events only the dregs are on offer to type.

Chrissols · 24/02/2021 17:39

@Gally123 was that down to feedback? I have noticed I seem to be getting a lot more 'thank you for your great work' emails recently (just about every day) and have had a couple of others, so obviously the proof readers are having a blitz

OP posts:
Meha5 · 24/02/2021 19:31

@Gally123 was that she who must not be named 🤣 no point in going up against that one I'm afraid only makes her ego out of control !!!!

Gally123 · 24/02/2021 20:17

@Chrissols @Meha5, yes about feedback and leaving notes. A few weeks ago I was sent feedback about leaving a "note to doctor" and not changing it to "note to secretary" which as it was early morning and I could only remember one such instance I thought I had and queried to the exact message, as they normally quote this, but in this instance they could not (which I thought was odd) and she who shall not be named told me not to worry about it, as they do not normally pick people up for not specifying "secretary", which I do if the name is given etc.

This morning I was again told that my "note to doctor" should have been "note to secretary" and I was going to refer them back to the previous conversation where I was told it did not matter, however instead I asked -

"As messages to secretaries are work related and not queries on the dictation can you confirm that these are paid at the same rate as our dictation work? Thank you."

To which I got the speedy curt reply -
"Notes are not chargeable characters i.e. they are not added to the line count. Sorry."
To which I replied -
" I can understand that queries are not chargeable but work such as the sometimes very long and involved messages to secretaries should be, as other companies do pay for the work involved in leaving such messages.
If these message are not paid work and are typed purely as a gesture of good will on the typists part then I do think that the proofreaders are legally able to comment on what has been written and perhaps the doctors concerned should be made aware that this service given by transcribers is a goodwill gesture and not paid for. Thank you. "

There was some time before she who must not be named replied -"Thank you for your comments/suggestions.
We are aware transcribers work in isolation and do not receive the feedback from doctors/managers etc. as they would in a hospital setting.
Our proof readers are there to help all transcribers by providing constructive comments to help ensure work provided is to the highest standard, which we are sure you will appreciate. Feedback from the proof readers relates to every part of the task, whether that is the body of text or the notes."

So now we know.......

I am sure now my every sentence, every comma and full stop will be scrutinised and I shall get sh*tty feedback two, three times a day for the next week or so. That is assuming I get any tasks worth typing.

Tpro on the other hand do not regularly leave notes for secretaries and if any such comment is required - it is typed at the top of the letter in red (and thus in the character count).

carosel2 · 24/02/2021 22:32

@Gally123 - I take my hat off to you for having the balls to asking that question. This is different, but it reminds me of when I worked for a company that was doing a lot of injustices. Everyone was up in arms and saying Id do this that and the other. I ended up sticking my neck out after hearing all the backup from others only to find no one backed me up and I was finished on the spot for speaking my mind. Yes this was temporary work but Id say be careful as you dont want to give them an excuse to close your account with them. I know we are self employed but they can still pick and choose who they want because they have many transcribers and one less will mean nothing to them

Gally123 · 25/02/2021 08:02

@carosel2 - I was very polite in asking my questions, although I was annoyed that the proofreader had picked me up on not specifying secretary when previously I was told that it did not matter and they did not correct people on that - and that came from the woman herself. More inconsistencies. I think if I had been rude or argumentative that would be different, and as we know, they have their way of getting back at typists who step slightly out of line by only giving them access to the very worst of the dictations. I always keep the feedback I receive for future reference. It is just a shame I did not keep the newspaper report of the shop/business that got fined etc from telling employees (although I think the principle is the same for contractees) to do unpaid work, such as shop workers being on the floor and checking their tills at 8.15am, 15 mins before shop opening at 8.30pm but only being paid from 8.30am. Business cannot make such stipulations as all work must be paid.

carosel2 · 25/02/2021 08:58

@Gally123 - well I hope they dont give you the crap because of your question. I applied to Tpro and received an email saying no work as yet but theyl be in touch shortly as things are now picking up and sent me info to read. Im not sure what the rate is but Im sure its no where near DICT8 which is a shame because if it was I would just do their work

Gally123 · 25/02/2021 09:07

@carosel2 - yes I also work for Tpro - the work is much clearer, but as it is all voice recognition they dropped their rate of pay to much less than DICT8, and then there is the exchange rate to consider with Euros to pounds, but they pay direct to bank account and invoices are emailed in.

I am unsure about working just for them due to tax reasons and being paid by an overseas company.

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 09:19

@carosel2 I also work for tpro and managed to secure the transcribers rate rather than proof reader rate, it works out the same as Dict8. My bank does charge me £6 with each payment, being euros, but I am not sure all banks do this (mine is a building society). The work is more abundant, if you don't mind the accents, I really did struggle at first.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 25/02/2021 10:48

@Chrissols - wow that is good, not sure if I have read my info correct but they have quoted 0.05 cent per line (i'm useless at conversion, but to me that sounds pretty dire) @Gally123 - again not much idea in overseas work, do you have to pay tax on the amount you earn from them? I certainly don't make enough all year to pay tax with DICT8.... on another smiley note! I'm off for my vaccine this morning! Smile

Gally123 · 25/02/2021 11:03

@carosel2 - TPro do not offer the higher rate anymore or so I was told. The lower rate is dire as you say, however better than nothing when DICT8 has no work etc. I am not too sure on overseas tax until I get to do my next tax form, however I may have to fill in a form for Ireland as well, although may not have to pay them, it depends on agreement with UK (I have a friend who is an author and gets paid from USA etc and has to fill in a USA tax form to say she pays tax in UK, and she includes all overseas income on her UK form and pays tax on it all).

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 11:04

@Chrissols that is a strange quote from them as mine is in characters as opposed to lines. As far as I am aware you still get your personal allowance before paying tax

OP posts:
carosel2 · 25/02/2021 13:19

@Chrissols - it states 0.00077 per character or 0.05 cent per line

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 14:01

@carosel2 oh, the rate I got was 0.0011 per character which is pretty much the same as Dict8, think I got in just in the nick of time before the rates changed

OP posts:
carosel2 · 25/02/2021 14:15

@Chrissols - good for you! that's lucky then. Smile I will concentrate on DICT8 though first and only use them when there is nothing coming in as I prefer DICT8 and as it's more money it makes sense to.

Chrissols · 25/02/2021 14:17

@carosel2 Yes, I much prefer Dict8 as the work is much more familiar. The last few days have been really busy, so hopefully things are picking up. I have typed quite a few face to face clinics this week which were practically non-existent the last few months.
