McDonalds drive thru - totally not an essential journey......

But

My DC love McDonalds and haven't had it in months. And love Katsu Curry. And want to try these new katsu nuggets.

Our closet McDonalds is 25 minutes away. So we can't get delivery and one of us picking it up means it's cold and crap by the time we're gone.

DC not had McDonalds since at least October. I so want to say "yes sure, let's do it tomorrow" as they've been amazing all week considering the new lockdown - but driving the whole family in the car for just a McDonalds seems like it's not much of an essential journey.

Expecting a mix of MN "don't be so stupid, McDonalds is disgusting, stay home and et lentils you dickhead" and a mix of "don't be so stupid of course you can drive to McDonalds you dickhead"

So interested to see which I get more of. Grin

Agreed @MotheringShites.

Frownette · 09/01/2021 18:09

I would have gone if I'd wanted to. You'd be wearing a mask, the server would, and it's a brief interaction with drive through.

Don't think ours would be open here as it's on a pedestrianised street. Bit cold to be sat out with one, anyway.

Hope the home nuggets are nice.

sausagepastapot · 09/01/2021 18:16

Fucking go for it. I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia

McD is never essential as it is convenient fast ultra processed “food”. However as a former university student like most people it was a dietary staple. Yes hypocritical but as a mum I know better than put my child through this junk as I served as the former guinea pig. Some of the menu is probably less unhealthy but any nutritional professionals recommend visiting fast food joints? What McDs has become is an “essential” employer if only they can also switch to boring healthy options to give balance to stop the American style obesity pandemic globally too. Long term horizon scanning would indicate this is a foreseeable possibility. Enjoy your drive through super size burger and fake potato fries today and pay for it in health outcomes tomorrow.
There's always one!

Make sure you subsist on gruel and kale for the rest of lockdown!

You could always do this!

If takeaways will possibly be closed from next week then I’m going to take the kids to McDonald’s tomorrow and treat them... I want these katsu nuggets!

Funkypolar · 09/01/2021 18:30

They deliver to my area on JustEat now! Don’t even have to send DH out.

I wish we had just eat here... too far out for McDonald’s on just eat. I will have to drive half hour to get it.
RoseDog · 09/01/2021 18:33

My dd was working in McDonald's today and it appears going to McDonald's is an essential journey as they have not been able to keep up with the drive thru all day, it's not stopped all day. Also deliveries haven't halted, they think they might get shut down to stop people going on non essential journeys as the queue of traffic caused havoc!

Funkypolar · 09/01/2021 18:33

How many grannies have I murdered getting JustEat deliveries? I’m sure somebody is reading this, sitting at home sobbing and shaking and putting cheese in their coffee.

FreshFreesias · 09/01/2021 18:35

Nanny state question.
Just go if you want to.

0 grannies murdered, takeaway staff and delivery drivers helped.

Honestly the thought of takeaways being closed down is making me feel ill. The bit of extra money I make doing deliveries is all that's keeping us afloat right now.

Funkypolar · 09/01/2021 18:41

There was a glorious post back in April that got deleted. One MNetter went to a shop to buy an Easter egg and another MNetter said she was being physically sick with anxiety at the thought of someone murdering retail staff by only buying an egg. They were both “sobbing and shaking” at each other in mutual hysteria until deletion.

Mylittlesandwich - thank you for working! We always tip drivers where the app allows. Are cash tips a no-no?

A good proportion of people are paying for orders with cash at the moment where I am so nope, no problem with cash at all.
MotheringShites · 09/01/2021 18:51

If takeaways close then more people will be in the supermarkets buying food. More moronic thinking.

pensivepigeon · 09/01/2021 18:53

You'd probably be ok going (unless you're in Derbyshire!) but otherwise use the opportunity to get the kids to make their own version. There will be recipes online.

Frownette · 09/01/2021 18:54

Has anyone got a link to the Derbyshire incident? I've seen it mentioned on here but not in the press.

Frownette · 09/01/2021 19:05

Ah found it, that's crackers the police said cups of coffee were a picnic. I'm picking up a friend from hospital next month and was going to take a flask of coffee and chocolate to cheer him up, worried about that now!

cyclingmad · 09/01/2021 19:08

I'd love to know feom those who opposed this and think its unnecessary whats different from getting into a car driving to drive thru and getting take away (only interact with 2 ppl at most) and having a takeaway delivered to you?

End of the daybin both scenarios you coming into contact with someone cos trust me round here the delivery guys don't leave food n your doorstep when they knock.

WankPuffins · 09/01/2021 19:11

Derbyshire police at humble pie over that in the end didn't they?

Frownette · 09/01/2021 19:13

Did they rescind the fine?

yearinyearout · 09/01/2021 19:13

My local McDonalds is about three minutes walk away. Even that is too far to make a journey.

That's a joke right?

WombatChocolate · 09/01/2021 19:15

It probably isn’t that different....and the key is to reduce contacts in any format.

That means reducing the number of people you encounter in shops, on the doorstep, at the drive thru window, in the garden centre and the DIY place.

Lots of people aren’t really ‘staying at home’ if the course of a day or 2 they go to the shops, visit the garden centre, walk with a friend, go for a takeaway and go to work.

Rather than being about the nitty gritty little rules of what is ‘allowed’ or ‘not allowed’ and the letter of the law, isn’t it about recognising we just need to stay at home as much as we possibly can and avoid all unnecessary outings. This is what reduces the vectors or contacts and disease. But it’s not fun and it’s inconvenient and lots of people aren’t really willing to entertain that inconvenience but prefer to decide there isn’t an explicit rule or law against a particular journey, so it must be okay because they fancy it.

Hopefully they didn't consume this pie at a national park on or near a blanket Grin
Hearwego · 09/01/2021 19:36

The two women in Derbyshire got fined but they weren’t from the same household and sat down for coffee, in a park. I thinks that’s maybe why they were fined?
