McDonalds drive thru - totally not an essential journey......

But

My DC love McDonalds and haven't had it in months. And love Katsu Curry. And want to try these new katsu nuggets.

Our closet McDonalds is 25 minutes away. So we can't get delivery and one of us picking it up means it's cold and crap by the time we're gone.

DC not had McDonalds since at least October. I so want to say "yes sure, let's do it tomorrow" as they've been amazing all week considering the new lockdown - but driving the whole family in the car for just a McDonalds seems like it's not much of an essential journey.

Expecting a mix of MN "don't be so stupid, McDonalds is disgusting, stay home and et lentils you dickhead" and a mix of "don't be so stupid of course you can drive to McDonalds you dickhead"

So interested to see which I get more of. Grin

@Soutiner

You are not getting out of your car so I would just go and not give in to the scamdemic.
'Scamdemic'... jesus christ. although at least there's a handy new word that identifies people who can be safely ignored on matters of even minor importance.
time4anothername · 09/01/2021 14:14

have a home made version if you can get the ingredients as part of your regular shop? More fun to do and better for your bodies?

Moron.

OP, I think you know a 50 min round trip for fast food is not an essential journey and is not what the police or anyone else would call a reasonable excuse to leave your home. You've been asked to Stay At Home.

This. 100%.
midsomermurderess · 09/01/2021 14:16

'Scandemic'? Honestly. 80,000 people have died and London hospitals are on the verge of being overrun with admissions and some people subscribe to the dangerous nonsense that it's all a scam.

Scamdenic 😂😂😂 FFS how do these people know how to post on MN

Affor · 09/01/2021 14:16

McDonald's is fine but the katsu nuggets are shit. And mine didn't come with any sauce which Twitter tells me has been a real problem Sad

midsomermurderess · 09/01/2021 14:16

Have died in the U.K.

toocold54 · 09/01/2021 14:17

OP I wouldn’t travel all that way just for a McDonald’s personally just because it’s far but I’d definitely get one if I’m going that way anyway and eat it in the car so it’s not cold.

PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 14:19

Just go. They're open for a reason.

PoppiesinOctober · 09/01/2021 14:19

@ShanniKey

Have banned that crap in the house and in the car. My son is just starting to take up sport so I want him to be fit and not huffing and puffing as he runs between the fast food junk castles.
Good for you. Hmm
Dogsaresomucheasier · 09/01/2021 14:21

It’s a food purchase, economic activity and something your family consider a treat. I think that’s allowed. If you don’t have moral issues with MacDonalds the rest of the time you don’t need to develop them now.

Inastatus · 09/01/2021 14:24

Just go OP. Your DC deserve the odd treat in all this shit and you are not spreading the risk. I took my 2 DC yesterday and we tried the Katsu nuggets - we thought they were yum!

GWLTM · 09/01/2021 14:29

Thanks all. Surprisingly few junk food police.

Although the "junk food castles" was solid gold so thanks for that. I'm sure no sports person has ever had junk food, ever. So a wise decision @ShanniKey Wink

Lots of you saying what I was thinking - It's just too far for me to feel reasonable about. I shall add nuggets and skinny fries to my Tesco click and collect next week and do some Katsu sauce with them.

We have a KFC in our town but I hate it.

So the only fast food DC really know is McDs from days out in The Beforetimes so that's why they were requesting it.

I'm sure I can upsell the home edition. Smile

If Macds are open, then that means staff, delivery drivers, processing plants, mtce staff etc etc etc all have to go out and work, their kids have to go to school.
More fuel is purchased, more social mixing, more accidents, breakdowns....

Now, i don't have an issue with any of this BUT Whitty is then on TV telling me to lock myself away... yet the Govt allow and by default - encourage people to go out and about.

Its almost as if they want us to catch CV but a bit more slowly than at present.

HOS8595 · 09/01/2021 14:32

Just go get it.
I just drove half hour to get to somewhere for a walk with a mate and then stopped in the shops on the way back for some essential chocolate.
Treat your kids.

Wow. What a plonker. Scamdemic??? That’s a disgusting statement.

At least keep up with the theories if you are going to spout them, it has progressed from a scamdemic to a plandemic.

That’s not fair.
The PP hasn’t been told that it has progressed and seeing as they can’t think for themselves how are they meant to know Grin

Lovemusic33 · 09/01/2021 14:38

Had this discussion with dd earlier, I have another dd who has severe ASD and she’s really struggling with lockdown so a trip to McDonalds would make her very happy but we don’t have one near by, the nearest is in another county so we were talking about wether it would be classed as essential to go 🤣 Dd1 says it is as it’s food and food is essential. I decided not to go today but we will probably end up going by next weekend just as a treat to cheer us all up. Personally I would rather have a bigger king or KFC.

Sandunesandseashells · 09/01/2021 14:38

Usain Bolt estimated he ate 1,000 McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets during the Beijing Olympics — or 100 per day over 10 days at the Athletes’ Village.

“Honestly, I ate nothing else in all my time out in China except chicken nuggets,” Bolt wrote in “The Fastest Man Alive,”

Just saying....

Shadowboy · 09/01/2021 14:38

We’ve just had a Golden Arches. We are moving and have very little kitchen stuff and no fridge- we drove 15 min (8miles) I don’t see the issue. Most journeys in all honesty aren’t essential. Ours wasn’t but if I want to make an argument for it I could.

housemdwaswrong · 09/01/2021 14:40

Given that hospitals are now rationing icu beds, and starting palliative treatment earlier and running low on oxygen, I wouldn't be getting into the car and risking an accident for the sake of a McDonald's. Each to their own though.

I do agree with this but as long as places are open people are going to use them. I agree that by keeping them open more people are at risk and more kids are going to school but until the government change this no one is breaking any rules.
