McDonalds drive thru - totally not an essential journey......

But

My DC love McDonalds and haven't had it in months. And love Katsu Curry. And want to try these new katsu nuggets.

Our closet McDonalds is 25 minutes away. So we can't get delivery and one of us picking it up means it's cold and crap by the time we're gone.

DC not had McDonalds since at least October. I so want to say "yes sure, let's do it tomorrow" as they've been amazing all week considering the new lockdown - but driving the whole family in the car for just a McDonalds seems like it's not much of an essential journey.

Expecting a mix of MN "don't be so stupid, McDonalds is disgusting, stay home and et lentils you dickhead" and a mix of "don't be so stupid of course you can drive to McDonalds you dickhead"

So interested to see which I get more of. Grin

@pictish

Your 7 yr old isn’t special...my kids are bored and left wanting too, but if everyone decides their kids are the exception for needless journeys, well....

Holy Christ. Grin

RTFT you clearly missed the earlier post where I said I was going to make my own at home.

Bitches be bored today clearly.

I’be been thinking of doing this (but with Nando’s for the teens) but somehow I never actually do it

I guess deep down we’re not that desperate for it

Could you not be a MN goodie-goodie Wink and make home made pizza with him? Kids even like just adding tomato sauce and cheese and toppings of their choice to toasted pita bread (then grill them = pizza)

@peak2021

My local McDonalds is about three minutes walk away. Even that is too far to make a journey.

DC has not had this junk food since October is no excuse. Even if it was October 2019 still no reason.

The issue, OP is the ‘what if...’. And the what if in the current climate is a car accident where you require hospital treatment. It’s adding to the problem. Hence the no unnecessary journeys.

I wouldn’t personally do 25 miles, I think that’s a bit much. Probably wouldn’t be bothered if you did, however.

Yes, takeaways will be shut in the next few days and people won't be able to meet others at all for exercise etc. Because people are unable to exercise restraint and to actually choose to stay at home and recognise the difference between essential and non essential, it will all become so much stricter.

But then with these rising figures it won't be long before more people suddenly have lost someone to the disease, or have a friend or family memeber who is seriously ill, or who has another chronic condition that cannot be treated because the NHS no longer has resources. I expect then they will be the ones to suddenly start complaining about how other people behave.

Are you joking?

My McDonalds is five min walk away might have been one of the reasons I chose this house over the other we saw it's also next door to the pharmacy and the little Tesco. Is 5 min walk to far for me to go to those places too?

How the tone has changed on here in the second lockdown btw. If you’d have proposed this during the first one there would have been a lynch mob.

I feel much the same this time round. I’ll follow the rules and not worry what other people do...but if they ASK me, I’ll tell them. They a;ready know. 🤷‍♀️

I do agree with this but as long as places are open people are going to use them

The people who don't care and don't listen, sure. I'm not going to places just because they are open.
Vast numbers of people seem to need to be controlled by the government, they can't restrain themselves unless everything is actually made illegal.

Well, the situation has changed, things are much worse now.

If you can be fined going 5 miles in your car for a walk in a park.
I think it could be argued that McDonald's is not ' essential food '
Tbo I'm surprised they are open.

And it’s not about whether you should go or not...you already know you shouldn’t. It’s about whether you give a fuck about breaking the rules or not...which is entirely up to the individual.
I’m not a rule-follower by nature but I have stuck to these ones. I work with children with additional support needs, some of whom are immunosuppressed, so I feel a sense of obligation to behave. I appreciate other people don’t have the same immediate concerns.

Yes it becomes clear that people need to told and ordered not to do things in a much more prescriptive way...they cannot exercise any sensible judgement for themselves.

That's why more shops will be closed down and meeting anyone from outside of a house will have to be banned. Some people will really suffer in terms of mental health, but because all those who just fancied a quick meet up, so basically didn't stay at home, it will be necessary.

And actually, even with people sticking to current rules, they probably aren't enough. The disease is rampaging. It will spread when people chatting at a doorway get too close. It will spread from children who've been in keyworker places at school return home and when people go the postoffcie and haven't washed their hands. It is spreading at a furious rate. The only way to not catch it is to stay at home and only see your own household. If that means not seeing anyone else for weeks and feeling miserable....that's what's needed. If it means a deterioration in mental health, that's what's needed.

Otherwise, do we need to all know several people in our street or family who have died, before we will say there is no alternative and my sufferings from staying at home are just smaller than this desaease spreading? The government will eventually rule on it ...but only when it's got a lot worse.

What a dilemma OP, but your kid needs their non-essential junk meat treats. I am sure there will be another zoonotic disease just around the corner so we can lock down again next year. I hear bird flu is on the rise again so that's something to look forward to. Go for it!

If I don't drive my car (older diesel) not only will the battery go flat but my filter will get messed up. So every 2 days I go for a 20 minute drive, I dont stop and meet anyone and good thing too cos its been so cold my engine already splutters trying to start up.

On one of my drives I went past mac d and got some through the drive though.

I survived! Contact is no more than if you went to supermarket, infact its less than that.

Went to my local teaco today, rammed, no social distancing whatsoever so I say go for it

Very disappointing the katsu nuggets.
Was hoping for layer of katsu sauce, wagamama style. Instead it’s an overly spicy seasoning mix, not good at all. Still, I say go.

The problem is...you can't be fined for going 5 miles for a walk in the park. The police were wrong and making up laws.

if McDonald's isn't "essential food" then neither is that bag of crisps you bought for your kids lunches from Tesco. Are we only allowed meagre rations of bread a dripping now?

So why is it OK for other people to have the exact same food delivered to their house, just because they're I'm delivery distance?

FFS!
Do you (and many others on here) really have no understanding or appreciation that you are putting yourself and others at unneccesary risk with this sort of attitude and behaviour?
If you do have some understanding, then it's just incredibly incredibly selfish!
It's these attitudes and behaviours that have put us in this current crisis. and that will continue to keep us in this state.
I hope people behaving like this aren't the same ones complaining how long their children will be out of school, or complaining when they can't get urgent medical treatment when they, or a loved family member, has a heart attack etc or little Johnny falls over and needs stitches or his arm is broken etc etc etc.
There is a very direct corelation between the two.
Don't be that dickhead!

But "what if" you tripped and fell on your daily walk, broke your ankle and required hospital treatment?
"What if" you drive to the nearest supermarket for your fortnightly shop and are involved in am accident that requires hospital treatment. After all you could have minimised that risk by getting online shopping...

Would it be acceptable to go to McDonald's on the way home from the supermarket?
