McDonalds drive thru - totally not an essential journey......

But

My DC love McDonalds and haven't had it in months. And love Katsu Curry. And want to try these new katsu nuggets.

Our closet McDonalds is 25 minutes away. So we can't get delivery and one of us picking it up means it's cold and crap by the time we're gone.

DC not had McDonalds since at least October. I so want to say "yes sure, let's do it tomorrow" as they've been amazing all week considering the new lockdown - but driving the whole family in the car for just a McDonalds seems like it's not much of an essential journey.

Expecting a mix of MN "don't be so stupid, McDonalds is disgusting, stay home and et lentils you dickhead" and a mix of "don't be so stupid of course you can drive to McDonalds you dickhead"

So interested to see which I get more of. Grin

Absolutely go! Enjoy your Maccys! (the new nugs are yum) Grin

Imiss2019 · 09/01/2021 13:34

The katsu nuggets are not great DS1 was unimpressed said it would have been better to dip regular nuggets in a katsu sauce rather than katsu flavoured nuggets in sweet curry sauce.
Go to McDonald’s but have a Big Mac

"My friend worked at McDonald's and has just quit, because one of her colleagues was asked to come to work while waiting for test results because they were so short staffed"

This is also happening at my McDonald's except they were isolating as a close contact and told to test and if negative to come back into work. It's put me right off

BogRollBOGOF · 09/01/2021 13:45

If OP is 25 miles from McDonalds, that's a pretty strong sign that there's not much nearby. Go for it. Cars need a good run to recharge their batteries anyway.

Derbyshire Police had Humble Pie for dinner last night over their "local"/ Starbucks overzealousness.

Mylittlesandwich · 09/01/2021 13:49

I had a McDonald's last night, I also deliver takeaways as an extra income right now. If people stop having takeaway etc I'm even more fucked than I am already.

GameSetMatch · 09/01/2021 13:50

I’d go, it’s a treat for the children and food is essential. The Katsu nuggets are disgusting though, I love katsu so I was very disappointed.

2021welcome · 09/01/2021 13:51

Do it

AldiAisleofCrap · 09/01/2021 13:54

A 50 minute round trip is unnecessary and selfish. McDonald’s May be food but it’s hardly your weekly shop. If you break down you are putting other people at risk.

25 minutes drive not miles.
Our nearest is 34 minutes drive (just idly checking; not thinking of a Big Mac meal, oh no...) but that's well under 25 miles.

Having said that, we've got all the essentials available in our local small town (and quite a few non-essentials); I'm not sure a nearby MacDs is the be-all and end-all of civilisation.

peak2021 · 09/01/2021 13:58

My local McDonalds is about three minutes walk away. Even that is too far to make a journey.

DC has not had this junk food since October is no excuse. Even if it was October 2019 still no reason.

vanillandhoney · 09/01/2021 13:59

Christ, just go. It's perfectly legal to go get a takeaway.

ZenNudist · 09/01/2021 13:59

Would not drive for an hour and queue for ages for a macdonalds BUT if you did go it's fine. You are allowed to drive to get foi d and you are allowed to get take aways.

fluufy · 09/01/2021 14:01

You are not getting out of your car so I would just go and not give in to the scamdemic

Moron.

OP, I think you know a 50 min round trip for fast food is not an essential journey and is not what the police or anyone else would call a reasonable excuse to leave your home. You've been asked to Stay At Home.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/01/2021 14:02

We went last night.

Offskki · 09/01/2021 14:02

The only thing being asked of us is to stay at home. That's all we have to do.

Joeblack066 · 09/01/2021 14:02

@LindaEllen

My friend worked at McDonald's and has just quit, because one of her colleagues was asked to come to work while waiting for test results because they were so short staffed. Her symptoms were fatigue, a bit of a cough and a little breathless. The manager said it was fine as they wore masks.

She tested positive.

Their attitudes to this situation suck. I wouldn't go near.

They are franchised tho so that may not apply to all McDonalds.
Offskki · 09/01/2021 14:03

What does this even mean?

ShanniKey · 09/01/2021 14:05

Have banned that crap in the house and in the car.
My son is just starting to take up sport so I want him to be fit and not huffing and puffing as he runs between the fast food junk castles.

Edgeoftheledge · 09/01/2021 14:06

Its fine, enjoy

Sofetikal · 09/01/2021 14:06

I probably wouldn’t tbh. Yes you’re not getting out of your car but you could be involved in an accident on the roads which may require the use of the NHS. It’s unlikely yes but staying home if you can seems to be the message.

fluufy · 09/01/2021 14:06

What does this even mean?

It means that after a year and 2 million dead, some epic morons still think coronavirus is not real, and/or they believe outlandish, offensive deep conspiracy theories that its all faked/purposefully made/controlled by Bill Gates/the Jews/the Illuminati/the lizard people.

RedskyAtnight · 09/01/2021 14:07

A 50 minute round trip just to get a takeaway seems excessive anyway - pandemic not withstanding.

I agree this is legal, but for me it would come into the category of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

If you do, do it, why not combine with going for a walk/play around/in the direction of the McDonalds, so at least you get more value out of the journey.

LH1987 · 09/01/2021 14:07

Deliveroo will deliver McDonald’s to most places for 2.99 fee. But I think if you want to drive out that’s not an issue either.

P.s had the Katsu nuggets today, very good!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 09/01/2021 14:11

McD is never essential as it is convenient fast ultra processed “food”. However as a former university student like most people it was a dietary staple. Yes hypocritical but as a mum I know better than put my child through this junk as I served as the former guinea pig. Some of the menu is probably less unhealthy but any nutritional professionals recommend visiting fast food joints? What McDs has become is an “essential” employer if only they can also switch to boring healthy options to give balance to stop the American style obesity pandemic globally too. Long term horizon scanning would indicate this is a foreseeable possibility. Enjoy your drive through super size burger and fake potato fries today and pay for it in health outcomes tomorrow.
