McDonalds drive thru - totally not an essential journey......

But

My DC love McDonalds and haven't had it in months. And love Katsu Curry. And want to try these new katsu nuggets.

Our closet McDonalds is 25 minutes away. So we can't get delivery and one of us picking it up means it's cold and crap by the time we're gone.

DC not had McDonalds since at least October. I so want to say "yes sure, let's do it tomorrow" as they've been amazing all week considering the new lockdown - but driving the whole family in the car for just a McDonalds seems like it's not much of an essential journey.

Expecting a mix of MN "don't be so stupid, McDonalds is disgusting, stay home and et lentils you dickhead" and a mix of "don't be so stupid of course you can drive to McDonalds you dickhead"

So interested to see which I get more of. Grin

How about just doing as little as possible....staying at home!

ktp100 · 09/01/2021 16:01

One of my friends got her kids to decorate paper lunch bags with M's, cooked french fries and nuggests (and you can obvs buy katsu dipping sauce) and then stood at an open window and made her kids go through the 'walk through' to get lunch - they also had MrFlurry type deserts and drinks.

She said they enjoyed it a lot more than a trip to Maccies.

Just an idea.x.

@cyclingmad - ‘So every 2 days I go for a 20 minute drive’ 😱 Oh my God, the risks!!!! Actually, I also have an old diesel so understand the problem.

Your username made me wonder how many cycling accidents happened last lockdown. The world and his wife were out on bikes and I know of at least 3 people who came a cropper!

NoSensei · 09/01/2021 16:02

I’d go. The nuggets were really nice, I’ll be getting them again at some point Grin

BigusBumus · 09/01/2021 16:03

You're agonising about getting your kids a McDonalds? So much that you care what an internet forum thinks? Wow.

Just quietly go get them their treat FFS.

Inastatus · 09/01/2021 16:03

@ktp100 - I love that idea. I think the OP has already said she’s going to make her own.

ancientgran · 09/01/2021 16:04

You're allowed to buy food, it is food. I'm thinking of getting KFC but it is quite close, maybe I could get a delivery? I've been holding off and promised it to GS for the first day the numbers go down as a celebration.

toocold54 · 09/01/2021 16:05

Is McDonald's really worth 25mins of petrol?

This.
I wouldn’t do this pre-COVID haha.

Just wait until you’re going that way to do an essential shop eg shopping and get it on the way home. And do this post-COVID too! Lol

Haha see this is why I got attacked earlier.

Currently it's not worth the 25 minutes.

But when you live 25 minutes away we find make it worth it sometimes. I have a soft spot for a Big Mac and it makes DC happy. Generally we're going to the trampoline park nearby though so the petrol is better spent.

But this thread has solidified that it's not the safe or wise option currently. Will treat DC other ways.

I'm in the 'eat lentils, dickhead' camp.

Calty123 · 09/01/2021 16:11

Get the nugs

NovemberR · 09/01/2021 16:15

I would go. I live rurally - our nearest town is 15 miles away (30 min drive) and I've every intention of going and doing a Morrison's/Tesco shop once a week and picking up a drive thru McDonalds or KFC with the teen DC every week.

He needs some sort of outing/treat to look forward to. Even if they only thing we can do is sit in KFCs car park and eat takeaway.

jessycake · 09/01/2021 16:15

I have a family member work at another popular takeaway and if they are colsdin the drive thru window they are wearing shared fleeces as they are not given one each .

Haha I know right, im not forking out any more money on my car cos the battery goes dead etc. Totally unnecessary.

No idea about number of cycling accidents but man I cannot wait until March and better weather so I can get out for 3hr bike rides again. Far too cold right now and with risk of ice I'd rather not risk it

Inastatus · 09/01/2021 16:32

@cyclingmad - yes, far too freezing to be out on a bike 🥶

MintyMabel · 09/01/2021 16:48

Dammit. I had said to DD a couple of weeks ago that we’d go to McDs today. This was before we had the updated “no really, stay at home” update from Sturgeon. Before the numbers up here rocketed.

I said this morning we weren’t going to go, not a good idea, possibly against the rules (although this was unclear). She was OK with that, but now I really want a Mickey Ds!

alliejay81 · 09/01/2021 17:10

I've followed every law to the letter. I've almost always followed the guidance too, but this thread is bonkers for two reasons.

  1. the risk of catching or spreading covid by going to a MacDonald's 25 minutes from your house is exactly the same as going to one 5 minutes from your house. The chance of having a car crash where you require medical assistance is very low. You're statistically far more likely to injure yourself in the home.

  2. the guidance is guidance, the law is the law. You are expected to follow the law, but interpret the guidance with your own circumstances and risk appetite in mind. The fact some strangers on the internet choose to take a stricter interpretation of the guidance in relation to takeaways is not your worry. You might view a trip to MacDonald's as a morale building treat which is good for MH. Someone else might go for exercise every day. Someone else might go to the supermarket instead of getting it delivered. Unless every poster criticising hasn't left their house except for medical reasons and only had food delivered, then they've made their own choices about what risks to take. If you leave your house to take a walk, you are taking a risk, if you get an Amazon delivery you are taking a risk, etc, etc, etc.

BridgetDrones · 09/01/2021 17:15

Nope. Sorry the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Inastatus · 09/01/2021 17:42

@alliejay81 - totally agree!

Ebhc · 09/01/2021 17:49

Go. Katsu nuggets are nice but prefer normal ones.

FFS!

Do you (and many others on here) really have no understanding or appreciation that you are putting yourself and others at unneccesary risk with this sort of attitude and behaviour?
If you do have some understanding, then it's just incredibly incredibly selfish!
It's these attitudes and behaviours that have put us in this current crisis. and that will continue to keep us in this state.
I hope people behaving like this aren't the same ones complaining how long their children will be out of school, or complaining when they can't get urgent medical treatment when they, or a loved family member, has a heart attack etc or little Johnny falls over and needs stitches or his arm is broken etc etc etc.
There is a very direct corelation between the two.
Don't be that dickhead![/quote]
A dickhead cos I stopped for some chicken nuggets on the way home from Morrison's. Calm down.

AdelaideK · 09/01/2021 17:56

I'd go.

CherryRoulade · 09/01/2021 17:57

I would have thought a huge benefit the virus brings is a significant reduction in people shovelling in junk food. We might just end up with a healthier generation due to cleaner air and fewer calories.

MotheringShites · 09/01/2021 18:02

I’ve found myself in the fucking Twilight Zone.

Take your poor kids for a McDonalds.

zeitgeista · 09/01/2021 18:03

the nuggets aren't very good.

MotheringShites · 09/01/2021 18:05

This is deluded thinking.

Do you really think people are going to be healthier by being trapped inside for 23 hours a day? That kids will benefit from being sedentary in front of a screen every day, rather than moving around at school, running and playing with their friends and taking part in sports? That levels of alcohol consumption aren’t rocketing?
