I brought a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery today as a treat over our normal supermarket loaf. It's twice the price at £2 a loaf but tastes soooo much better.

I'm tempted to make this a permanent bread arrangement.

Bacon. Naked bacon is so much better than the regular stuff packed with nitrates.

Tinned tomato’s, the good ones make sauces etc taste so much better.

Proper sourdough bread. Tastes like bread, lasts for ages, easily refreshed with water and a few minutes in the oven and you don't eat as much of it!

Proper expensive parmesan. I cannot believe the difference. Pay 2 -3 times the price and gett 100 times the taste, use far, far less and accidentally always have a bit of cheese to nibble with a glass of red wine!

Yes to proper salt, big crystals of the stuff, and black peppercorns, and a proper cruett set to grind it.

Eggs... I'm lucky I can get back garden eggs, but we found Coop eggs are fresher and tastier than other supermarkets (Coop own pesto is great too!)

Expensive butter, there’s a Morrison’s Best Brittany salted butter that’s incredible.

Coffee or coffee beans from a specialist seller rather than supermarket stuff.

Most alcohol except wine as I can’t tell the difference.

Eggs for sure. Big bright yellow yolks... yum.

Decent salted butter, good oils and fish from the fishmonger, rather than watery supermarket fish.

On the flip side, I will only buy the cheapest beans and squash I can find. They just taste better.

Decent parmesan. A little bit makes a huge difference to the flavour of lasagne/cheese and onion pasties/cannelloni/mac and cheese. Makes more difference to the cheesiness of said dishes than half a block of grated mousetrap.

Proper baileys and seabrook crisps. Can't stand supermarket versions of either.

I very thing else I'm happy to drop a brand level or two!

Definitely good olive oil. I use cheaper light stuff for cooking and lovely kalamata oil for salads/adding to soup and pasta sauce.

I received some Mutti Polpa tinned tomatoes in my shop as a substitute a few months ago and now I won’t buy anything else. They’re perfect for everything.

Cherry tomatoes are also worth shelling out for, in my experience.

You may disagree, but frozen veg: higher nutrient content as frozen quickly after picking, plus no prep time and cook what you need so no waste.

Fresh pesto - tastes nothing like the cheap jar version (which is still ok and we usually have a jar in the back of the cupboard)

I agree with tinned tomatoes, the slightly more expensive ones are much nicer, but if you cook down the cheap ones for much longer it still does the job.
I also can’t stand cheap chicken products (chicken burgers, nuggets, grills etc) and will always pay the extra for 100% chicken breast and less processed versions (even though by nature it’s still processed I suppose lol) - even better if it’s finest/ free range/corn fed etc - or more often than not I will just make my own!
