I brought a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery today as a treat over our normal supermarket loaf. It's twice the price at £2 a loaf but tastes soooo much better.

I'm tempted to make this a permanent bread arrangement.

@SpaceOp the vintage Modena Italy from Il Gusto is amazing. It’s pretty much all we buy.

For years I got a vintage one from Borough Market. Annoyingly, can't remember what it was called so can't buy it online. I do think it's quite personal though. BIL likes his longer aged while I've discovered I like something a little less aged. The brand I used to buy I'd buy for both of his - the 12 year old for him and the 4 year old for me!

Nice eggs - like Burford Browns for example - so many eggs are pale and tasteless I can't bear them I'd rather eat them less frequently but have a decent one.

Kellogg's cornflakes and real Weetabix. As a kid we always had the cheap version and now I appreciate the proper stuff

Tim's Dairy blackcurrant yoghurt. Devastated somebody bought 'my' pot in the corner shop (usually one left Friday morning, when I go).
All meat from butchers shop - ask for 'what do you recommend for the weekend?' and you'll not be disappointed in the butcher's choice.

President unsalted butter (lurpak can get in the bin)
Good chocolate
Proper eggs - burford browns are the best
Free range salmon. Farmed stuff is so fatty and slimy.
Good wine. I don’t mean like £50 a bottle but the difference between £5 and £10 is phenomenal.
Proper cheddar. Wooky Hole or Black Bomber.
Premium brand of tomatoes (I like taste the difference ones, so much more flavour than normal ones)
Teapigs tea
Probably loads of others too but these are my main ones!

Proper cheddar cheese and Lurpak butter. And fresh bread - I don't buy it though, I bake about 80% of the family bread intake including sourdough, normal loaves, crumpets, pittas etc.... Just tastes amazing and is well worth the time and effort.

I don't think fresh pasta is better than dried, they're just good for different things.

Cheap big-brand chocolate is shite, although sometimes I'm just in the mood for it. Otherwise I'll happily pay a premium for Montezuma's.

The expensive mature cheddar I get from Whole Foods is better than any supermarket ones IMO.

Teapigs strong Earl Grey is £££ but miles better than the dishwater you get with most Earl Greys.

I spend a lot on food....bugger all on clothes/makeup/hair/nails etc.

Ham.
Good local butter - cheap butter/marge is just not right.
sourdough bread - from the baker - it's £4 a loaf. It doesn't last that long but it tastes fab.
Meat generally - but particularly chicken, bacon and sausages. It's a welfare thing and a taste thing - hate it when you get a load of water coming out of it.
Tea bags.
Cheddar Cheese - Cornish Cruncher from M&S
Ice cream.
Free Range Eggs - the blue ones from the Coop.

Was just reading through surprised nobody had said meat and then saw H1978's post. I thought about it and then had that sense of remorese... we buy local reared meat and it is quite a lot more expensive than supermarket meat. I am used to being looked at sideways whenever I mention how much we spend on the meat we at!

It is my foodie guilt!

DP would say Mcain oven chips over supermarket brands. For me, French’s mustard as supermarket brands not he same. Lurpak or President butter. Gruyere cheese for cheese scones. The cat will only eat John West tuna steaks in spring water, any other type, she won’t eat it.

I am also addicted to this @Ariela!
It's just so delicious. Why don't other brands even have blackcurrant yoghurt? It's lovely and less sweet.

Eggs, the more expensive the better imo
Butter
Free range chicken, it just tastes nicer
Tomatoes
Snack food, posh crisps and nuts are just nicer

I had to do an Amazon grocery shop (I couldn't get anything else) while I waited for a covid test to come back. They only seemed to have the cheap Morrison's stuff in and most of it was vile or completely tasteless.

@sadpapercourtesan

Decent parmesan. A little bit makes a huge difference to the flavour of lasagne/cheese and onion pasties/cannelloni/mac and cheese. Makes more difference to the cheesiness of said dishes than half a block of grated mousetrap.

Grated mousetrap ?GrinGrin
