I brought a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery today as a treat over our normal supermarket loaf. It's twice the price at £2 a loaf but tastes soooo much better.

I'm tempted to make this a permanent bread arrangement.

Aldi’s Norpak is at least as good as lurpak and half the price. One of the perks of shopping there I’ve discovered

PrincessGraceless · 08/01/2021 13:21

Agree about Longley Farm Cottage Cheese! Only one worth eating.

Also eggs - love, love, love Clarence Court.

Othering · 08/01/2021 13:22

Pretty much everything apart from.......cadburies!!!!!! I prefer it much more than any expensive chocolate (except one shop on Richmond Road in London that I'm sure puts crack cocaine in their recipe).

Tinned tomatoes - could only get cheap ones in early lockdown and what a difference that made to my cooking. I was adding two cans where I would normally add one, sugar for the acidity, and nothing tasted the same at all.

Live natural yogurt. OMG it's a different product altogether.

Good butter - but I second @CupcakesK that Norpak is just as good as Lurpak. I know this to be true because I spent a month transferring Norpak into a Lurpak tub to fool autistic super-taster DS and he didn't have a clue.

My families business has been mentioned ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Marigold washing up gloves.

missmouse101 · 08/01/2021 13:28

Oh sorry! Seen it was food!

AtleastitsnotMonday · 08/01/2021 13:30

Maille tartar sauce. If you can’t be bothered to make your own, then this is the one. All the others just taste of vinegar to me.
On the flip side I far prefer supermarket value English mustard, the good stuff gets up my nose.

FlowS · 08/01/2021 13:31

Lurpak.... although not really due to the cost, it’s tastes so nice I have no self control and try to incorporate bread and lurpak into every meal!

littleloopylou · 08/01/2021 13:31

Balsamic vinegar

Sugar. I tend to buy golden caster sugar because it has a richer taste.

Oats. The bug jumbo ones are way better.

Peanut butter. I only buy Pip and Nut now.

Olive oil for finishing dishes

Butter (as pp have said)

jay55 · 08/01/2021 13:31

Hayward's pickled onions. Always crisper and tastier than own brand.

H1978 · 08/01/2021 13:33

Nothing beats good meat, I’d always pay extra for that and hand cooked crisps instead of the usual multipack ones.

2bazookas · 08/01/2021 13:35

Scottish seafood, shellfish, meat, and seasonal soft fruit.
New Zealand sauvignon blanc
Linen.

cricketmum84 · 08/01/2021 13:35

Oh and definitely agree with longley farm cottage cheese and Longley farm yoghurts. Especially the hazelnut. Nothing comes close imo.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2021 13:39

Was just reading through surprised nobody had said meat and then saw H1978's post.

Don't agree with Lurpak; I prefer good quality French butter.

If instant coffee - Azeera. Happy with PG Tips but prefer Twining.

littleloopylou · 08/01/2021 13:43

Oh, and tea - Twinings Strong English Breakfast. And coffee - Illy crema e gusto and the decaf
Parmesan, as mentioned
Prosciutto di Parma
This kind of chili oil, which is hard to find: www.yaubros.co.uk/brands/laoganma-crispy-chilli-oil-chilgm109.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAouD_BRBIEiwALhJH6AgCK-KhZQsLPPU18BRZw6GP02b-_ARoruhThNsVbbMHh1zuRWLKsRoCpR4QAvD_BwE

Also, smoked salmon.

I spend more than the average person on foodBlush

bobby81 · 08/01/2021 13:44

Yorkshire Tea, proper butter, chocolate hob nobs, M&S ready meals, fresh pasta

Floomobal · 08/01/2021 13:46

Balsamic vinegar - nothing from any supermarket is decent in my experience.

Cherry tomatoes on the vine. You pay more than double, but totally worth it.

Coca Cola - supermarket brands are disgusting.

I have to say, I buy cheap balsamic vinegar as standard but I do agree that a really good one is amazing. I've never been able to bring myself to buy expensive supermarket ones though because you have no idea what you're getting! I do like a market where I can taste a few and then splash out on something fancy that is uniquely for me.
Lucieintheskye · 08/01/2021 13:49

Bread
Butter- definitely not Lurpak!
Beans
Teabags (We shop at waitrose mainly but only drink Lidl Gold blend)
Coffee
Pesto ingredients
Beef
Pizza
Cheese
Oils to finish dishes (truffle, avocado)
Salmon

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/01/2021 13:51

Eggs, lurpak, cheese, dark chocolate. Also oils and vinegars, teas, fresh fish. I’m a very fussy eater which probably affects things!

AriesTheRam · 08/01/2021 13:51

John West tuna in the resealable pots

missmoz · 08/01/2021 13:54

I'll scrimp on a lot of stuff but Heinz Beans, Coke/Diet Coke, HP Sauce, Hellmans Mayo and Dairy Milk are all much tastier than the supermarket own brand versions.

Bought cherry tomatoes on the vine and they taste completely different, so delicious roasted.

However tinned tomatoes can be jussed up if they're cheap imo.

And has to be decent cheese, improves any dish and goes much further.

Lelophants · 08/01/2021 13:55

Butter vs spread.
Actual coffee.
Non crap chocolate.
