I brought a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery today as a treat over our normal supermarket loaf. It's twice the price at £2 a loaf but tastes soooo much better.

I'm tempted to make this a permanent bread arrangement.

I was the ultimate Lurpak snob, although I did try lots of alternatives because I resented the price! Then Aldi’s Norpak entered my life, half the price and indistinguishable, and I never looked back.

Those frozen steam bags of veg are worth every penny, saves on pans, time and food waste. I’m all for that.

Never found an acceptable alternative to Kellogg’s, those evil geniuses of the cereal world.

@SendHelp30 we’re in Wales and the cottage cheese is available in Home Bargains. We always had it in the house growing up and my 73 year old mum was so excited when she found it at the start of
Lockdown. Apparently nothing else compares!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/01/2021 21:36

We’ve downshifted quite a bit as my DP was made redundant, and some things I thought would be crap as own/cheap brands have been a pleasant surprise. However we do stick with:

Skippy peanut butter
HP sauce
Heinz ketchup
Higher welfare meat - we eat more veggie stuff now
Kleenex Balsam tissues
Cat food - fussy face won’t touch anything other than Felix, which isn’t expensive. When we adopted her we tried her on more expensive, better quality brands, and she would rather starve. Likewise when I thought we would experiment with Asda Tiger. The local cat and dog home really liked us for a while!

Pipandmum · 08/01/2021 21:39

Good cheese, smoked salmon, wine, steak, crisps, sausages...
Things I wouldn't pay extra for: water, olive oli, flour, sugar and other basics.

BillyAndTheSillies · 08/01/2021 21:44

After really shit mozzarella at dinner, I'd say good buffalo mozzarella or even better, burrata are worth the money.

Day to day? Maldon sea salt, good quality chocolate and decent coffee.

@Hoppinggreen

Sorry cricketmum, not what I meant. It’s produced local to me so I am familiar with it ( and I agree it’s reet good). That poster said her family firm had been mentioned and I was asking if it was Longley Farm
Ah I'm with you now Grin

Aldi Spanish Manchego cheese

Frequentflier · 08/01/2021 21:55

Proper Indian spices instead of horrible curry 'sauces'.

SpaceOp · 08/01/2021 21:55

@Billy- we have a big sainsburys near us. They stock an amazing burrata at surprising price. Oe did. I cant get it online anymore and I haven't been in store so not sure I'd they have it. They didnt the last few times I did go. I will be devastated if it's gone forever. Was my favourite lunch time treat.

ClinkyMonkey · 08/01/2021 21:55

Loose leaf tea - proper coarse leaves as opposed to dust.
Decent cherry tomatoes.
Heinz ketchup - for the DC though - I'd eat anything. In fact I think Heinz ketchup has gone to the dogs - thinner and more vinegary.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/01/2021 21:57

Bacon from the butcher. Supermarket bacon is awful.

Our village butcher is also a greengrocer and has the most amazing cherry tomatoes on the vine. They cost a fortune but are so much better than ones from Tesco.

NoMoreFlowers · 08/01/2021 21:59

Longley Farm yogurt is amazing

SendHelp30 · 08/01/2021 22:04

Bloodhoundgang · 08/01/2021 22:32

Irish butter. Salted. No spreadable muck.

Branded toilet roll.

Coke zero.

Local meat when we buy meat.

Anything else I'll buy yellow stickered.

purplebagladylovesgin · 08/01/2021 22:41

Butter, milk, cheese and cream from local happy grass fed cows. It's truly gorgeous. The rich yellow cream whips in 10 seconds, unlike the several minutes for the watery Tesco equivalent.

Getting a local milk delivery has been fab. Contactless too.

sofiathe2nd · 08/01/2021 22:42

President salted butter
Cherry tomatoes
Greek yogurt
The few premium cat foods the animal will eat

iamthedanger · 08/01/2021 22:49

Ltdannygreen · 08/01/2021 22:54

Coca Cola, don’t care what anyone says, nothing tastes the same, not even Pepsi, I’ve passed the taste test several times. Nothing beats the original.

HmmSureJan · 08/01/2021 22:54

Tesco finest range. It really is better.
