I brought a loaf of fresh bread from the bakery today as a treat over our normal supermarket loaf. It's twice the price at £2 a loaf but tastes soooo much better.

I'm tempted to make this a permanent bread arrangement.

Organic baking potatoes, SO much better, they're almost creamy in texture.

I’m surprised people are saying they can’t tell ffs difference between Lurpak and Norpak. Norpak tastes like margarine to me!

Report

I don’t like Lurpak,it’s not proper butter.
Le President with sea salt crystals is best - which I can’t get since Ocado stopped doing Waitrose stuff

Piccolo on the vine tomatoes instead of the generic tasteless cherry toms. So much better!

Champagne over prosecco I actually prefer prosecco. The only champagne I really really like is Pol Roger, and obviously I can't afford that!

We could ultimately eat anything really but we do have preferences such as:
Jolly Hogg bacon - ideally the treacle basted one
Geeta’s Mango chutney
Branston baked beans
DP insists on French butter with sea salt
Sugar free smooth Sunpat peanut butter
Homemade pesto. I can’t eat the vile stuff out of the jar.
Marmite
Delouis mayonnaise
Weetabix

Think that is about it.

For all the PP saying Lurpak

Can you please explain how that blend of rapeseed oil, salt and milk is worth extra?

Why don't you just buy proper butter? Confused
It's weird to think of margarine as a luxury

Agree with the baking potatoes too. We have ours delivered in an organic veg box from a local place and they are absolutely incomparable to supermarket potatoes. Same with their cherry tomatoes. I eat them like sweets.

And salted block butter over lurpak any day.

YY to block parmesan - I was feeling lazy the other day and bought some already grated - what a difference!

I should’ve clarified Lurpak Spreadable - but we have proper butter too. Our kitchen is cold, so the butter in the butter dish is never at spreadable consistency without extra help! So in terms of a butter spread, Lurpak. But proper salted butter is obviously the bomb for when it’s delicious fresh bread and can be faffed with making sure it’s spreadable, or in cooking. When I answered it was top of my mind because DH had just come back from the supermarket with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter and I was in a strop because REALLY?! I Can’t Believe It’s Allowed To Be Called Anything Close To Butter is closer to the truth. Will have to give it to the kids to bake with.

@NoSquirrels
I can recommend Graham's spreadable butter - it's still not as good as real butter. But it is at least (mostly) actual butter

Bacon that has NO added water

Free range chicken (totally different, more juicy and tasty and flavoursome)

Organic veg (Riverford, Abel and Cole) make you realise how sad supermarket veg tastes

But it all adds up Sad

President spreadable butter is 100% dairy and totally knocks Lurpack out of the ballgame

I’m open to non-Lurpak alternatives - but Lidl is not so hot on range, alas!

Champagne, really not into Prosecco.
President butter with salt crystals
Maille sauces
Longley farm jersey creams
Illy coffee

When I was a student (many years ago) in Manchester you bought Longley farm cottage cheese and yogurt from 'the corner shop or it came with the milk. Then I didn't see any for years until our local farm shop started stocking the cottage cheese - best cottage cheese ever. Also have to agree with buying the better tinned tomatoes and butter. If you have poor results with baking - things like flapjack then buy better butter.
