DD12 wants to spend £92 on Robux

She had £220 of Christmas money ( mostly from her dad who claimed not to know what to buy her )
A few days ago she gave me £80 cash and asked me to transfer the equivalent into her bank account as she wanted to shop on Amazon.
So I did.
She bought a hat and spent £50 on a Robux e gift card and had some change.
20 mins later she went Into her bedroom And I realised I could here something. Turns out she'd been scammed of the Robux on Adopt Me and was crying her heart out. This is not the first time she's been scammed on there and we have had many conversations on the subject.

Tonight she has asked me to transfer money into her Go Henry account again. When I asked why she told me she wants to spend £92 on Robux.

Now obviously it is her money but I can't help thinking that it's a complete waste of money too. I really want to say no but also know that she should be allowed to spend her own money on whatever she wants. We both also know that if she asked her dad to do the same he would flat out refuse.
What should I do?

OP from your most recent comments, I’d strongly suggest sitting down with your daughter and the game to understand what she wants to spend the money on and how she was scammed previously. I think there’s a lack of understanding here.

accidentally

I know nowt of this game or its intricacies so I shouldn’t be commenting probably! If it was a wind up I’d not have a clue. Grin

I did look to see what the Robux were and there are lots of associated articles about people being scammed.

I just think it a shame that the in game purchases are made to be so appealing to young folks.

DD plays i t so I have to be aware of what's going on. Otherwise I wouldn't have a clue either.Grin

Makes me very popular with the kids at work though. Grin

@Longdistance

It’s be a no. She needs a reality check about the value of money. That £92 could feed a family for two weeks.
🤣🤣 oh this response is peak MN!

I'm gonna go against the grain and say it's her money, you're not a 12yo girl and don't have the right to judge if something she wants is worthy or not.

Oh and contact Roblox about the scam - Adopt Me is the worst for them! My 8yo knows if something sounds too good to be true it probably is and to never give cash or items away to anybody.

I haven’t played Roblox but have gamed for decades so I am not anti gaming,

Online loot boxes were investigated and if paid for and not won in game were described as gambling and it was being debated in the House of Commons. But I’m not sure if these purchases are loot boxes or you know what you are getting.

I love gaming but am always shocked at how many parents let their children interact in gaming with strangers. Roblox is a site that has had some terrible issues with grooming, any online game can have this issue but this game is known to be marketed at children and therefore a magnet for undesirables.
