A laptop for £600 , shouldn't have bothered , awful thing.

A very expensive Cartier watch from Heathrow due to the tax saving. Went against my gut and bought a model which didn’t suit me. Luckily, I managed to exchange it for another one, which I adore. Not sure this counts....

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/12/2020 18:56

Bathroom fittings from The Bath Store. Utterly shite. Plus, they sold us bath taps and a shower attachment that, our plumber told us, couldn’t possibly work together. We were able to exchange those, at least.

sweetchristmastime · 24/12/2020 18:59

A really terrible horse

Shopaholic100 · 24/12/2020 21:13

Agree with the cordless shark comments, it blocks all the time and it’s so fiddly to find the blockage. We bought a Dyson fan a few years ago, it looks good but is absolutely rubbish in cooling the room.

Whiskyinajar · 24/12/2020 21:17

Apple ear pods.

Treated myself...lost one in bed one night and it's never turned up.

midsomermurderess · 24/12/2020 21:21

A Loaf sofa. I needed to get foam cushions made for it as the feather-filled ones were terrible. You were basically sitting on the bones of your arse in minutes.

ScrapThatThen · 24/12/2020 21:29

A prom dress for a 2020 teen, the year everything was cancelled. Expensive alterations and everything. Just about to do the same for a 2021 teen though luckily she is a frugal sort and wants to buy from Asos.

DaysAreGettingLongerNow · 24/12/2020 21:33

@Gertie75

Memory foam mattress, why did I ever think I wanted my mattress to remember me? I want it to spring back into shape the moment I roll over (which is hard work on a memory mattress)
Oh same here. On top of that mine is as hard as a rock and makes me sweat like buggery. Fortunately it was only €160 but as soon as we’re out of lockdown I’m off to Ikea.
m0therofdragons · 24/12/2020 21:45

I don’t line Shark because the no hair wrap is nonsense (3dds and me with long hair). Gtech k9 is fab though and a much more sensible price!

WitchQueenofDarkness · 24/12/2020 22:34

Louboutin shoes. Cost an absolute fortune and I can't wear them outside or the red soles scratch.

sanityisamyth · 24/12/2020 22:49

My house. I didn't choose or want it. Ex-husband put in an offer on it before I'd even seen a picture of it. It's taken nearly 5 years to sell it because of various issues. It's also lost £15,000 in 15 years of owning it.

My wedding. Never should have married ex-husband. Turned out to be financially abuse, a thief and a cheat.

ladybird69 · 24/12/2020 23:26

A Smeg fridge freezer cost the bloody earth and I’d wanted one for years!!! Absolutely crap. Kept frosting up , parts were so flimsy that they broke all the time and it was so noisy. So disappointed.

Miljea · 25/12/2020 00:19

@KonTikki

I bought a beautiful Triumph Stag in the '70s for £1800, a whole lot of money then. The engine kept overheating, I could literally drive and watch the temp gauge go through the limits until I kept having to stop and let the engine cool. After 6 months the car blew up on me on the Autobahn outside Frankfurt. I left it smoking on the hard shoulder and hitched home. Never went back for it and have no idea what became of it. But it did look absolutely gorgeous Grin

Seriously Bad Ass.

Respect.

😊

Miljea · 25/12/2020 00:33

@doctorhamster

Probably our current house. We bought it 6 years ago when it was 20 years old, not really realising that everything in it was also 20 years old. Since moving in we've had to replace the boiler, the double oven, the dishwasher, 2 showers, 3 misted up window panes, the garage door, the front door and most of the carpets. Oh and a toilet.

We won't need to do anything to it! We'd thought to ourselves when we compared it to the 1930s house we were also considering Hmm

I don't really regret it though I suppose...it's in the perfect location for us.

Ours too. 23 years old. Renewed just about everything! But, to be fair, it didn't come as a surprise! 😊

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/12/2020 00:34

@Cocolapew

Hetty hoover, I loved my old Henry but this is nowhere near as good. I just bought a Beldry stick one for £21 and it's amazing.
Where did you get one fir £21? I LOVE my Henry, but I need something cord free for a quick whip around.

Mine is the cordless vax, it was almost £400 and bloody useless. I gave it to my friend for her upstairs, she seems happy enough with it for the bedrooms 🤷🏻‍♀️

WanderingHopefully · 25/12/2020 00:41

A Nordic spa. Wood burning hot tub thing, no jets, just a human bain marie.

Still in its wrappings 2 years on. Stupid waste of money, I have no idea what I was thinking. Well I do, cool winter nights in the country, gazing at the stars. The reality is that the water is metered so it'll be bloody expensive to fill (and we won't be able to use it in the summer as there are always water restrictions - not UK) and I'll be too warm by the fire indoors to even think of going outside and taking all my clothes off.

Changechangychange · 25/12/2020 01:01

Scooter for DS when he was 2.5. Never really got the hang of it, then he got a bike for his 3rd birthday and the scooter as been gathering dust ever since. I should sell it, it is basically unused, but I keep hoping he'll decide he wants to use it.

Ayupmeduck · 27/12/2020 20:01

An acer laptop during lockdown for the kids home learning . Was happy to buy something fairly basic but not that basic...takes about half an hour to start up Confused

bloodyhairy · 27/12/2020 21:43

@Somersetlevel

Try selling your hot-tub in this lockdown! You couldn't get them for love nor money during the first one.

RednaxelasBaubles · 27/12/2020 21:50

Armchair-bed from made.com .. took months to arrive and it's incredibly uncomfortable as a bed. It has metal bits of frame poking up and it digs into you no matter how you lie on it. Total waste of £250. Would have been better off with a cheap IKEA one. It looked good in the pictures and is quite a stylish sort of armchair but basically useless for what I bought it for.. I do wish I'd been able to send it back! Total waste of money

bloodyhairy · 27/12/2020 21:53

Oh my goodness, oh my god. I read this thread thinking 'ooh, I'm not sure if I have any regrettable expensive purchases', and then it came to me like a kick up the arse.
My Sani-Flo 😭
I wouldn't touch another macerator toilet property with someone else's barge pole.

Labobo · 27/12/2020 23:05

@RednaxelasBaubles - why couldn't you send it back?

Cantrecall · 27/12/2020 23:45

About £1000 on a rattan furniture set (DHs stupid idea)

Multiple Heavy Cushions have to come in and out the garage every time you want to use it; the actual rattan needs all put away in winter else it blows round the garden in high winds; no one eats or drinks on the white cushions in case they spill anything; the cushions are rock hard, sun cream stains them oh I could go on and on! Such a waste of time as the cushions are out about 10 times a year as it’s just hassle.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 28/12/2020 05:41

I've had my Dualit 4 slice toaster for over 20 years and that was a second hand one given to me and it's never broken down and we use it daily. I think it was used in a cafe before me so maybe it's built slightly differently ?

I had real issues with fridge freezers that only lasted 2 years by Hoover, Bosch and then I got fed up and bought a cheap Candy which has lasted ages and even if it does break down it was cheap so wont matter as much.

I had a Smeg fridge freezer years ago but the crappy seal on that rendered it pretty muchredundant.
My Bosch Washer dryer only lasted about 5 years so never getting one of those again by any brand.

There are lots of duff items being mentioned that I'm now pleased I havent got around to buying like the cordless dyson etc.

Curlyshabtree · 28/12/2020 07:13

@im5050 thanks for the info. I have been looking at the website and think I will place an order! Not heard of them before but they look like just what I am after!
