Our village is on a county border, half of it are in tier 2, the other half going into tier 4, no surprise which side I’m in.

I hit the mulled cider tonight. Proper stuff from a farm that could be anything from about 5% to 15% and some calvados thrown in for good measure. Needed after this rubbish.

Despite the new rules we weren't going to change our plans, we were visiting my parents on Christmas Eve and leaving Boxing Day but they are convinced that we will get landed with a £10,000 fine because someone will report us or the cameras on the motorway will pick us up and send us a fine that way.

It's a good 2 hour drive and actually I wouldn't put it past the government to have people scrutinising the cameras or setting up patrols on the motorway to hand out fines so maybe we should just stay at home.

No idea when we will see them next, probably not until Easter if we are allowed. It's just not sustainable to keep families apart long term like this. We can't keep shutting down the country every few weeks, something has to give and soon.

I was feeling jaded about not really having much in the way of Christmas plans, I love my family, but they are not my whole world. In shitty silver linings, I have no practical disappointment. I am sorry for everyone who has had their plans disrupted.

We might be in different boats in this storm, but at least we have some kind of radio between us.

Lots of people in my real life seem so upset and so very angry. I wonder if there will be a fall out after everyone’s had a chance to digest it and chat to their friends and family?

It's a lot to take in I think. It doesn't really affect me as I didn't really have much in the way of plans, my main worry is about having no work and no income in the new year, but it's almost like there's collective bewilderment that's affecting all of us.

Neighbors going to England panicking they have to drive Xmas morning and be back Xmas night. Drakeford only giving us Xmas day.

I have to admit that even I'm a bit worried about roadside cameras being used to try to enforce this, having previously thought "they can't possibly police this". December 25th is the one day public transport does not run, so everybody moving will be on the road. I expect we'll be seeing some scary headlines about "police roadblocks on Christmas Day" to make the dementors salivate. Will Cressida Dick be forced to change her tune, having said that the Met will not be pouncing on family Christmases?

I'm daring to hope for some of the following to happen: perhaps not immediately, but it might highlight why Saint Boris didn't want to do this in the first place:

• It might provoke the furious public backlash which has been overdue since April, and even the government would not be able to silence the press about it. Bring on the riots.
• Boris might finally have a nervous breakdown and resign, now that he's been forced to be Scrooge. No sympathy for him - karmic justice for nine months of deliberately fucking with the public's heads. I know it would still be same shit, different leader, but it would be deserving.
• There will be some "fuck you Boris" parties.
• Businesses will be all the more determined to sue the pants off the government, and perhaps to refuse service to MPs.
• MPs will be pounced on by the press if they break the roolz.
• People will be much less trusting of government in general, perhaps forcing government (in longer term) to be more transparent. We might start to see some anti-government groups, and more protests in general. I haven't trusted government AT ALL since Tony Blair invented the nanny state, and bleated about weapons of mass destruction: he set the massive precedent of the prime minister being a big fat liar.

Notice that nothing has been said about MPs voting on this measure - although it probably won't be reversed, there's still time for them to be publicly angry about it.

If this does become a "people vs government" thing, I think that could only be a good thing.

Well, thanks to Drakeford, DH won't be getting a Christmas present from DD (had a quick non-essential shopping trip planned). Fortunately DD is too young, and DH too old, to care too much about it. But I bet loads of people whose children won't be too young to care will be in a similar position.

I’m confused, I thought Drakeford said restaurants could be open till 6pm Xmas day?

Have felt on edge since they announced the press conference but no idea why as we didn’t have any plans to meet up with family for Christmas anyway.
My DF is in a support bubble with my DSis so he’s ok.

wanderings the press were quiet about Elwood, he didn’t break a law but it’s a bit rich how he behaved. I don’t think the press will try to catch out MPs at Xmas.

I still think the big problem is if Johnson goes the only person who will want the job is Hancock. Public transport will be shut and it will be “papers please” to go for a walk.

Had a quick trip out to get new bedding for DS newly decorated bedroom. Matalan is now all self service tills. What's that all about? I'm pleased my item didn't have a magnetic tag as I was struggling enough to scan, remove hanger, pay and bag up whilst sweating in my face mask. I want to be served properly goddammit!

I've seen much more anger on fb than at any point so far. A few lamenting that they are now not going to catch up with long-since-visited family.
Curiously a few are teachers... and I've seen a few teachers simmering about the last second minute changes of policy/ u-turns in the last couple of days. Their temperments will be on thin ice after a bitch of a term anyway. (They're not MN teacher types)

When I go shopping at night, the big supermarket only has self service open which is fucking marvellous when it's 9:30 pm and you're trying to get £££ through the till. Oh how I hate the phrase "unexpected item in bagging area". While I am rather pleasant and polite to actual humans, self-service is fair game for venting my inner Victor Meldew. It's quite theraputic!

DD1 was in hysterical tears for the 2 hours, saying that the world is too horrible and scary, she wants to die, trying to self-harm. She's thankfully worn herself out enough to fall asleep. My eight year old daughter It's too sad.
