Songs that have you sobbing

Mine is dire straits, on every street.
When ddad told us he had cancer we left shortly afterwards and this came on in the car. Dad is a huge dire straits fan and this song just made me think of him, and how if he wasn't around I'd 'see' him on the street.
Morbidly, I decided it would be played at his funeral. Luckily I haven't had to break it put yet. But the first few bars have me in floods of tears.

"Stuff We Did" by Michael Giacchino. It's from the movie "Up", and it will frequently make me well up. Definitely recommend it anyway though, it's a lovely piece of music.

Sorry to hear about your father. Condolences to you Flowers

berrygirlie · 09/12/2020 00:29

(^^ Espially when you listened to "Married Life" first which is the optimistic "before" part of the narrative and then listen to "Stuff We Did". Crying like a little baby!)

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2020 00:31

Apologies I was going to add he's fine. But I don't want to tempt fate. We are quite far on and he's
Touching lots of wood despite not being superstitious.
Symptom and cancer unaffected
I will have to listen to that song

If anyone wants to add Ed sheeran please don't :)

This.. especially now.
The line 'These are the people who'll make you feel safe in this world' makes me cry every time.
And this year my own DS1 is 9000 miles from home (in Oz and can't come back) and the song says it all

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2020 00:32

Urgh I don't think I want to any more. I need to feel a lot more positive before I do

Slipping Through my Fingers ABBA shite EVERY FUCKING TIME!!

DC think it is hilarious and often hum it just to get a reaction.

StealthPolarBear · 09/12/2020 00:36

Crunchy I am so sorry x
I suspect I'd know the cat stevens song if I heard it. I'm going to google
(dad was a bit of a hippy in his youth)

That ABBA song is on all if these threads. I have not heard it - when I Google it is new to me! How is that possibly when dancing queen was at every school disco?

This Woman's Work, Kate Bush. Heaving messy tears.

berrygirlie · 09/12/2020 00:43

This is a maybe not so known for demographic purposes, but "She Lays Down" by The 1975 is about post-partum depression and is very moving in my opinion. You should give it a go if you're wanting that kind of thing (I'd be interested to hear other's peoples opinions on it).

On another note, apologies about the condolences, OP, my close reading skills are appalling! Best wishes for his recovery x

Slipping through my fingers....

He is 19 and in some ways slipping through our fingers and bizarrely in other ways coming back to us.

Up to now from about 15 to 19 going to look for the tree was lame, today he was quite engaged on the subject,.

I jokingly said is this just a few Covid hours out and he said, no this is my home I would like some input, I know you guys are paying for it, but I don't want it to just appear. Shock

Who are you and what have you done with my son. Grin

Just for clarification, he could turn on sixpence and be narky in the morning, well his morning, our afternoon. Grin but for now I love him dearly.

NotPrude · 09/12/2020 00:44

Supermarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran...when you realise he's singing about his mum dying, urgh it's just too much. Can't even listen to it.

FinallyFluid · 09/12/2020 00:46

Sorry took so long to post someone beat me to it.

Glitterandunicorns · 09/12/2020 00:48

@Crunchymum I'm so sorry for your loss. Thanks

"Another Love" by Tom Odell is heart-wrenchingly sad in a kind of angry way. Sorry I know with the amount I've posted I may as well have just linked a playlist Grin

lobster12 · 09/12/2020 00:57

The living years by Mike and the mechanics. Thankfully i don't hear it that often but when I do I'm bawling my eyes out.

Thewithesarehere · 09/12/2020 01:01

Silent lucidity.

At the moment..................

Driving home for Christmas............... we don't drive every year, but a choice would be nice.

DH got up into the attic without being nagged on Sunday, Shock which made it feel a bit weird anyway.

I started to stick fairy lights on anything that looked like it might move, and he said he had made me a Spotify playlist for Christmas, (unheard of, he is a sentient Grinch, knows when he is about to Fuck up, but will swerve what he can) and it wasn't too bad at all until we got to Chris Rea, I turned my head away and sobbed.

Userzzz · 09/12/2020 01:12

Second “ Oh Very Young” . I knew a 15 year old girl that died tragically and they played that song at her funeral, very sad song.

Hangingover · 09/12/2020 01:12

Everglow by Coldplay Sad Reminds me of when DM died, especially when he goes, "how come things move on, how come cars don't slow, when it feels like the end of my world". Sums up exactly how I felt when the sun came up the morning she'd died and the world had dared to carry on as normal.
