What’s with massive pants?

Ok so turning 50. I wear pants. Never thongs, see through knickers at the weekends but normally just back or white normal cotton bikini pants.

What’s going to happen that means I need “massive” pants?

I’m scared. I can do periods, piles and white pubic hair but pretty worried by the dark secrecy around massive pants. Just tell me....

It’s not a case of giving in to style, fashion, or men come to that, it’s a case of stop squeezing size 10 knickers onto a size 18 body!

Oh you're one of those...

wozzerree · 05/12/2020 15:14

and fit better around the bum.

Thongs never fit around my bum just in it which I didn't find comfortable.

cactusdog · 05/12/2020 15:26

Big pants are ridiculously comfortable. Also ditto re previous posters and c section scar here

@wozzerree - l am one of what precisely?

And where did l say that thongs fit better round the bum? If you are going to try and quote others, it’s best if you stick to what was actually said.

SimplyRadishing · 05/12/2020 15:30

I wear them and I am in my 30s

The only secret i can think of is they are amazing 🤷‍♀️

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 15:31

I'm with you on this StarlightLady

NotImpossible · 05/12/2020 15:32

I picked up the wrong pack in M&S once (Full instead of Midis). Never gone back - they're so comfy!

I've always preferred things on my waist though - I hate low rise jeans.

Cooroo · 05/12/2020 15:34

I'm 61 and haven't felt a need to change to big pants yet. Briefs and a couple of old thongs. Mind you I keep pants for decades if they don't wear out...

StarlightLady · 05/12/2020 15:35

@boomshakey - knicker free days are a freedom loving summer sport, not for windy days. But an air conditioned under carriage in a long summer dress can feel that little bit special.

9bt9 · 05/12/2020 15:36

I love a big pair ofpant Grin. I've recently moved from the big bridget Jones style to wearing mens boxers a lot of the time.

SewingBeeAddict · 05/12/2020 15:37

Im a size 12 in either big pants or other styles.
Its not the size its the shape.
They are stretchy, not bulky and the gusset is the same size as minis etc.
Why do people have to over exaggerate things?

Nandocushion · 05/12/2020 16:03

I've worn thongs I was in my teens. 50 now, no intention to change, no vpl either. I have a cs scar too.

I don't see the attraction in big pants and don't find them comfortable, but everyone is different. What I really don't understand is everyone cheering about how 'warm' they are. Are you all walking around in just your pants? Do you all live in northern Finland? My underwear serves various purposes, but it's not a garment that is supposed to keep you warm surely.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 16:05

Do men's boxers not bumfle up under your clothes?Confused

Crabwoman · 05/12/2020 16:09

I wear two styles of pants. Primark do these amazing cotton Brazilian ones trimmed with lace in a three pack. They are about the most comfortable pants I have ever worn.

I also wear full briefs. I have a high waist so they don't roll down and give me a muffin top. You don't get VPL and are smoothing under dresses.

I am 37 and a size 8-10 for reference

Intrigued as to why you keep see through pants for the weekend though?!

BiBabbles · 05/12/2020 16:11

Some people's preferences move more towards comfort rather than anything happening. I cannot see how any of them are 'more trouble' than other kinds of underwear or how certain kinds would be more professional, other than avoiding panty lines (though that can also be a matter of what trousers or skirt are worn).

I find full briefs go well with cloth pads. Boxers are also quite comfortable. I wouldn't buy either underwear or swimsuits with thin straps over my hips - I don't find them comfortable and I hate the look of it.

I think commando is an individual preference rather than sex-based. I know people of both sexes who've gone commando in jeans, which I think would be far more uncomfortable than in a kilt. It depends on the make, but the stiff material of many kilts means even seated they might not come in contact in a way a skirt would (and standing there is even more room) -- though as my spouse put it, it may depend on the guy's size and whether he's a shower or a grower.

Nope! I wear the type with the elastic in the leg rather than the baggy type.
JudgeRindersMinder · 05/12/2020 16:15

@Thewinterofdiscontent

I don’t wear them! I just want to know why people go from normal sized pants to huge ones.
I wore “over the bump” pants when I was pregnant and found them so comfy, but spent the next 20 years thinking I “should” be wearing something skimpier. Those 20 years have given my the confidence to say feck that I’ll wear what I want so I now have a drawer full of big drawers
wozzerree · 05/12/2020 16:38

A dick

wozzerree · 05/12/2020 16:46

I can't stand a cold back so I like my back covered if exposed so less breeze gets in there, although that's less of issue now high waisted is back in (thank god). I also like the coziness of another layer on my cheeks before my clothes. However I feel the cold & do wear thermals if in Finland or similar.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 16:47

I use cloth pads as a backup for my mooncup when needed, still work fine in bikini pants.
Haven't used disposable sanitary products for at least 10 years.

baubling · 05/12/2020 16:50

In my experience, increase in size of arse = increase in size of garment.

Benjispruce2 · 05/12/2020 16:52
Grin
BecomeStronger · 05/12/2020 16:52

I have come to the conclusion that not only are big knickers more comfortable, they also look better under clothes, with much less risk of vpl and actually, they also look better without clothes. E.g A 1950s bikini with big bottoms is much more attractive than an itsy bitsy one, they only became popular because of tan lines.

SockDrawer · 05/12/2020 16:52

still think massive pants look more trouble than they’re worth
How? In what way?

MynephewR · 05/12/2020 16:55

I've worn full briefs since I had my first DC at 25. They are just so bloody comfortable! Plus they hide my post pregnancy tummy and I feel like they give me a better shape under clothes.

I always assumed DH didn't care until one day I asked him and he said "well of course I'd like it if you wore sexy knickers but it's not exactly up to me as it's not me wearing them is it?" Grin so now I own a couple of pairs of lacy brazilians that I occasionally quickly change into if I know that they will be coming off again within 10 minutes. That is purely for his benefit, I wouldn't wear them under clothes day to day, I can just feel my tummy bulging over the top and they always ride up my bum.
