What’s with massive pants?

Ok so turning 50. I wear pants. Never thongs, see through knickers at the weekends but normally just back or white normal cotton bikini pants.

What’s going to happen that means I need “massive” pants?

I’m scared. I can do periods, piles and white pubic hair but pretty worried by the dark secrecy around massive pants. Just tell me....

I’ve worn “hipsters” since I was very young. Bikinis don’t feel comfortable at all, but larger briefs are too high for my comfort and the band is up above my jeans line. They are high enough to cover my bum, too.

I wear ‘big pants’ and I’m 25 Wink wayyyy more comfy, I like the over the belly button type - only time I wear anything remotely sexy is when dressing up for my husband and even then they are off ASAP as they are so uncomfortable Grin

Aye, that's why they're off ASAP @Lorw.Xmas Wink

My belly hangs out the leg holes of skimpy pants.

As soon I was healed from my hysterectomy which I had because of hideous heavy periods I bought absolutely tons of frilly silly pants because I could finally wear them without fear. I find them just as comfy as my non frillies.

Unlike thongs which I cannot wear because I'm not a piece of cheese at the deli counter.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 01:48

I do have thongs for the odd dress when one is needed, but mainly just nice knickers that aren't giant and are comfortable.

Frenchdressing · 05/12/2020 05:28

Have wore a thong once. Never again. Had to take it off on a toilet and go pantless.

Kintsugi16 · 05/12/2020 05:44

Large pants when necessary but I rarely wear any. Both options give a smoother line and comfort

Fozzleyplum · 05/12/2020 06:14

Given that the wise Pant Sages of Mumsnet are gathered on this thread, could I ask your advice?

What would you recommend to avoid vpl and bunching under tight jeans? My figure is best described as "arse on a stick" - tall and size 10 all over, but with a size 12 backside. I get hungry bum syndrome, where it eats my pants, so I've been wearing thongs for years.

Frenchdressing · 05/12/2020 06:16

Sloggi. Pricey but good quality. They do midi if you didn’t want to go full brief.

No pants? What about vaginal secretions etc? Seriously can’t imagine not wearing anything at all.

I found my ideal knickers in my 20’s as a slim fashionista- still buy them now approaching my 50’s.

Their ‘bigness’ means no vpl, the stretchy soft lace edges smooths out any bulges, and the colours they come in (lots) works under any outfit. They fit pads (even maternity), are forgiving with weight gain/loss and I think have a teeny vintage lingerie vibe that makes them slightly less ‘granny’? I think they are 90%ish cotton (+elastane) so good for health, and they wash like a dream (I have some 10 years old, still fine).

There are other styles in the range that are briefer-but-not-brief. The boyleg ones are cute too. Mainly I get skintone ones so I can easily wash them together. Do I care they are big pants? No I don’t. Not had any complaints from lovers over these. I don’t care what pants they wear either, as long as they are clean, not raggedy, and wearing something. Fussy, me.

Girlzroolz · 05/12/2020 06:27

Oooo pic doesn’t seem to have loaded. Anyway, they are called Jockey Parisienne. No idea why, they don’t remind me of either jockeys or French ladies.

bananabob · 05/12/2020 06:32

I've been wearing big pants since my 20's so I don't think it's anything to do with age I would never EVER go back to my thong wearing days not even if you paid me discovering full briefs was life changing Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/12/2020 06:42

M & S high waist Brazilians are quite nice for high days and holidays. A racy alternative to big pants.

randomer · 05/12/2020 06:47

Thongs always remind me of tooth floss.

Coldhandscoldheart · 05/12/2020 07:01

@VenusClapTrap Harvest festivals!! Marvellous!

Actually does anyone have recommendations for better big pants than my current supermarket cheapies. With section scar, I should probably accept I’m never going back.

Coldhandscoldheart · 05/12/2020 07:03

Sorry, should have rtft Blush I see lots of recommendations.

BethHarmon · 05/12/2020 07:11

I recently discovered properly sized undies when M&S discontinued my usual bikini style of choice.

Full briefs are so comfortable and cosier for winter.

Why have we been made to feel ashamed about wearing comfortable underwear? Who was it that decided the smaller the better when it comes to knickers?

BethHarmon · 05/12/2020 07:13

I had a pant epiphany

LunaNorth · 05/12/2020 07:15

I got some women’s boxers from Oddballs this week.

Another level of comfort. And ENORMOUS.

BethHarmon · 05/12/2020 07:16

Op, why do you think men aren't wearing tiny pants in their younger years? Or see through at the weekend? It's because they aren't conditioned to put their comfort second to their appearance

^👍👍

Men probably.

I've been wearing big pants since I was late twenties. They are so comfortable.
