What’s with massive pants?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 04/12/2020 20:54

Ok so turning 50. I wear pants. Never thongs, see through knickers at the weekends but normally just back or white normal cotton bikini pants.

What’s going to happen that means I need “massive” pants?

I’m scared. I can do periods, piles and white pubic hair but pretty worried by the dark secrecy around massive pants. Just tell me....

I bought some by mistake ( needed some cheap multipack ones for a hospital stay) and I've never looked back. I have some nicer lacier full briefs - M&S had some nice ones recently- but really I love the cotton ones. My job requires me to sit on the floor a lot and I prefer not to look like you can park a bike if my top rides up at the back ConfusedGrin

Benjispruce2 · 04/12/2020 22:46

Stomach tone goes even if you’re slim and a fuller brief covers it.I’m nearly 50 and just bought some full pants. They’re Lacy and attractive but I don’t get that tummy folding feeling when you sit that you get with little knickers.

PurpleMustang · 04/12/2020 22:47

Because with regular ones when you sit down or do most things you can usually feel those pants move or pinch. With mahoosive ones they cover everything so nothing to feel pain by. Just comfort and bliss

No VPL

They don't roll/slide down

I like the ones from Matalan (of all places!!). No fecking idea what I'll do when they stop selling them

Maybe I meant gauzy rather than see though 😁.

Still a solid bikini style, front and back fully covered, but less sensible and work like.

HazeyJaneII · 04/12/2020 23:44

I used to nick dh's y-fronts because they didn't give me a vpl, were supremely comfy and kept my bum warm.
Big pants are The Way.
After having a c-section anything sitting on my scar makes me feel nauseous, so that's a big pant bonus.

Northernsoullover · 04/12/2020 23:50

Oh how I love a full brief! Warmth, comfort and yes to reassuring. I think they look attractive in a 1950s way. I will never revert to smaller knicks.

SirSamuelVimes · 04/12/2020 23:54

Basically, as you get older*, you stop giving as much of a fuck about how you "should" look (i.e, fuckable) and realise your arse can be warm and comfy and you never look back.

*relative term. I'm 37 and my pants are expanding year on year.

Op, why do you think men aren't wearing tiny pants in their younger years? Or see through at the weekend? It's because they aren't conditioned to put their comfort second to their appearance.

Kakiweewee · 04/12/2020 23:57

My belly is saggy and I need extra space on my pants to keep it in. If I ever get surgery I'm gonna wear sexy pants again, but probably still have big pants for pyjama days.

Pyewhacket · 04/12/2020 23:58

I hate the word "pants" , puts my teeth on edge.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 00:07

Dd tells me I should be wearing big pants like an old lady as my underwear is too young for me!
Eh no, I'll wear my small knickers tyvm.
It seems to be a thing on MN to wear big pants/sloggis and such, which is fine, but anything smaller is talked about as giving you thrush or itchy, or not being comfy.
I've managed to get to 43 and wear perfectly comfortable small knickers.

Changethetoner · 05/12/2020 00:10

the bikini style knickers dig in to my hips now, in an uncomfortable way. when I was a teenager I wore tiny pants, but there is a lot more of me now, so yes, my pants are big now too. (but I was born in the 1960s so I think that makes it okay).

Titsywoo · 05/12/2020 00:13

No reason except they are more comfortable! I have a bit of a saggy belly after having 2 kids and being very overweight for 10 years. If the belly hangs over my knickers I feel uncomfortable and the only ones that stop that happening are full briefs.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/12/2020 00:14

I wore high legs until I had a CS at 29.
I had to wear full briefs to stop the elastic rubbing on the wound. The overhang never receeded and it's more comfortable having my stomach inside the pants than escaping in its own time or flopping out over the top.
I want the gusset and rear to actually cover up the areas that pante are designed to cover up.

Absolutely! If you feel comfy in smaller knickers then wear them. But no need to make big knicker wears feel like they are dowdy or whatever. Who cares what you have on under your clothes?!
StrippedFridge · 05/12/2020 00:17

No VPL. More comfortable than a thong.

PickAChew · 05/12/2020 00:19

They're really bloody comfortable. Nothing rubs in the wrong place. They don't roll down. I started my own thread about them because I was sick of flashing mybarse.

PickAChew · 05/12/2020 00:21

What do you suggest, then? Knickers? Aren't they unnecessarily frilly contraptions?
Utini · 05/12/2020 00:21

I started wearing midi post caesarean, and haven't been able to go back to bikini because they sit right on my scar and I can't bear the feeling of it, makes me feel weird and sick.

Nomnomarrgh · 05/12/2020 00:25

I love huge pants. They represent comfort and freedom for me.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 05/12/2020 00:29

They give a much smoother line under fitted clothes, are a bit more supportive, but above all they are so comfortable.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 00:30

TItsywoo
Oddly, I find the opposite as I said upthread.
It's all about the big pants and anything else is considered ridiculous.
Big pants come up further than my jeans, have a gusset thats about a foot wide and all bundles up which is not comfortable, there may not be an exact VPL, but there'll be a big lump!

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/12/2020 00:43

Big pants are comfortable, wash well and in cold weather can be pulled up and tucked into your bra. Saving you from getting a cold in your kidneys OP.Xmas Wink

Sure... but as I said wear what makes you comfy. Lots of people like big pants, lots like tiny thongs. Not sure why it needs to be some sort of contest. I couldn't give a shite what other people wear under their clothes.
ErrolTheDragon · 05/12/2020 01:08

I wear decent (though not big) pants under skirts in summers, but still prefer thongs under trousers, jogger, and especially Lycra exercise leggings. (I'll be 60 within a month.)
