What’s with massive pants?

Ok so turning 50. I wear pants. Never thongs, see through knickers at the weekends but normally just back or white normal cotton bikini pants.

What’s going to happen that means I need “massive” pants?

I’m scared. I can do periods, piles and white pubic hair but pretty worried by the dark secrecy around massive pants. Just tell me....

  • still think massive pants look more trouble than they’re worth *How? In what way?

Maybe that poster is worried about getting lost in them 🤷‍♀️

I've worn what used to be called bikini briefs since my teens - I'm 66 now and never felt the need to change to anything different. When I was pregnant they sat below the bump, I don't remember them ever being uncomfortable.

BoringBettie · 05/12/2020 17:09

If you mean full briefs I wear them because I had a c-section. Are they sexy? No. But anything that sits along that scar line feels absolutely horrendous!!

@Girlzroolz

I found my ideal knickers in my 20’s as a slim fashionista- still buy them now approaching my 50’s.

Their ‘bigness’ means no vpl, the stretchy soft lace edges smooths out any bulges, and the colours they come in (lots) works under any outfit. They fit pads (even maternity), are forgiving with weight gain/loss and I think have a teeny vintage lingerie vibe that makes them slightly less ‘granny’? I think they are 90%ish cotton (+elastane) so good for health, and they wash like a dream (I have some 10 years old, still fine).

There are other styles in the range that are briefer-but-not-brief. The boyleg ones are cute too. Mainly I get skintone ones so I can easily wash them together. Do I care they are big pants? No I don’t. Not had any complaints from lovers over these. I don’t care what pants they wear either, as long as they are clean, not raggedy, and wearing something. Fussy, me.

Where are these from please?

I tend to wear M& S high waisted shorts or Brazilian style cotton ones

Ok, who sells the nicest, not too expensive, big pants? I usually wear standard boring M&S black or white bikini briefs, but I'm in the market for some new underwear and quite like the idea of embracing big pants. Any suggestions? I'm a size 14 if that makes a difference.

Mammyloveswine · 05/12/2020 17:22

Love a full brief and I'm 33 Grin

Im wearing some lovely John Lewis ones. Black with a cream lace top. So comfy, no digging elastic . They come in packs of 4. £12

Big pants with soft elastic are a must on those days of pre period bloating. Nothing worse than bikini briefs digging in then. M&S do some high waisted shorts which I love (and don't just keep for bloated guts days). Agree that big pants give a better silhouette, at least on me. Embrace the apple catchers I say!

@StarlightLady

I still fail to understand how or why a big bulky second layer with no stretch under your outer clothes with a huge gusset can be comfy.

I still think lots of people are wearing the wrong size. If you wear a true size, briefer styles and gosamer fabrics are comfortable and fit better around the bum.

It’s not a case of giving in to style, fashion, or men come to that, it’s a case of stop squeezing size 10 knickers onto a size 18 body!

My big knickers are made from thin stretch Jersey. Nothing bulky about them at all.

I use to wear midis but pregnancy and losing the collagen lottery has left me with a flabby apron that just rolls them down. There is nothing to dress up in that area, so it's not worth the discomfort and draughtiness of anything skimpier.

A plus of big knickers is that they reduce the irritation from the rivets on my jeans - they sometimes give me blisters.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/12/2020 21:07

Tbf I haven't had a section, though I have small scars from being sterilised, Im only 5 foot and a size 8, (yes, stealth boast etc etc), but when I tried big pants, they were just so, well, big, so much material, bigger everywhere, not just the shape and for me not comfortable.
Cotton bikinis are, and then other nicer ones, but still comfy.
I just bought a load of new ones from Victoria's secret who have a huge selection of everything.

Almostslimjim · 05/12/2020 22:08

I don't agree that they look better under clothes, certainly not on me- anything high waisted emphasises my mum tum horrendously. Plus I find them really uncomfortable as said before, the amount of fabric irritates my c section scar. Much prefer a midi.

But the thing I absolutely hate the most in underwear is a seam that runs through the gusset- vag wedgies are the worst!

OnGoldenPond · 06/12/2020 00:01

I switched to big pants when I ended up with a colostomy bag. Now I have had the reversal operation I still wear them to cover up the massive scar left behind. Always avoided them like the plague before all this but have now realised they are much comfier than skimpier options and give your bum a much better profile under clothes. I'm a convert! Smile

I love that film 😊

NeonIcedcoffee · 06/12/2020 08:15

I wear them I'm in my 30s. They're comfy

ditavonteesed · 06/12/2020 08:52

I have just discovered oddballs women's boxers, the comfiest thing ever. I don't care if they are sexy.

SD1978 · 06/12/2020 08:59

Comfort. They comfortable, and if you've got down to the underwear on display stage with someone- I doubt they give a damn. If you like something else- wear something else. There's no rules. I've been wearing them since I was in my twenties 💁‍♀️

PutBabyInTheCorner · 06/12/2020 09:06

I have a flat tummy and a size ten but always wear big pants. I've a small waist and a fairly rounded bum so they just feel so much more comfortable.
I love m&s full briefs and have worn them since my 20s. Perhaps it depends on what shape you are but for me they look a lot more flattering too.
