What’s with massive pants?

Ok so turning 50. I wear pants. Never thongs, see through knickers at the weekends but normally just back or white normal cotton bikini pants.

What’s going to happen that means I need “massive” pants?

I’m scared. I can do periods, piles and white pubic hair but pretty worried by the dark secrecy around massive pants. Just tell me....

What I'm taking from this thread is that we all wear big pants to smash the patriarchy. Grin I love it.

Covid-secure knickers and Harvest Festivals
Brilliant Xmas Grin

I’m in my 40s and usually wear Brazilian style. I find them comfy, they move with me and they look nice. Nothing larger please! I don’t do white or beige; the latter makes me look as if l have a cardboard crotch.

I certainly don’t want anything bigger. I do want something with stretch though. Otherwise it feels as if you are wearing a nappy!

I had my last baby when I was 35 and I’ve worn huge pants ever since
I’m not fat and don’t have any tummy scars or anything like that to hide.
I just prefer them.
They are cosy , comfy and if I’m wearing jeans and bending over etc I’m not going to produce a builders bum for anyone.
I don’t even wear lacy ones , I prefer big cotton ones Grin

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 05/12/2020 08:43

I wear big pants, I'm tiny but I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and anything other than bloomers seem to sit on my scar.
I like to think I look more 50s sex pot, than old lady Grin

StarlightLady · 05/12/2020 08:48

I agree with @IHaveBrilloHair

To add, l can’t speak for those who had c sections, but aside from that, small should not equal uncomfortable unless you are being economical with the truth about your real size.

Also, isn’t it awkward going for a wee, if your skirt waist band is below the top of your knickers?

Aside from all this, nothing beats a summer dress and no knickers on a warm day! It’s a lovely feeling!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/12/2020 08:53

To those making 'cheese wire' comments re thongs - under trousers (which is their only use, to avoid vpl and/or bunching) they don't need to be tight so size up.

I used to like French knickers in my 30s, they were readily available then but then afaik went out of fashion. They were big without being bulky, no nasty elastic round the legs.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 05/12/2020 09:04

I’m not sure that men don’t have to wear underwear because it’s attractive. Those 80’s boxers were the only underwear men could be seen in and various sources said they were super uncomfortable and offered no support. See also kilt wearing - can’t be nice having wool on your bare knackers. From what I know, mans most useful pant, the Y front brief is derided by all.

I like a full bottom knicker but still think massive pants look more trouble than they’re worth. Thanks for the replies though.

Down with the pantriarchy 💪🏻

dudsville · 05/12/2020 09:18

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that big pants can be attractive. Mine aren't the lacy ones but are retro cool graphic novels designs. My parents are not sexy in the sense that they display my body, but they are attractive in that they are cool and fun.

Not in this house - I hadn't realised we were underwear contrarians.Grin
Supermarket and M&S Ys have apparently declined in quality; DH now orders Jockey Ys from the most excellent Potters of Buxton. (It's physically a good old fashioned shop which features in one of Bill Bryson's books but does internet sales too. OT but so much better than soulless chains and Amazon)

MillieEpple · 05/12/2020 09:26

I went from normal pants to massive pants because i put on weight and the normal pants sat exactly on a slight roll of fat and it was uncomfortable. So i either needed pants that sat below the muffin ridge (which looked grim) or over the ridge. Anyway one i tried them they were so comfy! I dont imagine if i can remain comoletley flat stomached i'd have made the transition.

Oops! 🤣

SewingBeeAddict · 05/12/2020 10:17

How can big pants be "more trouble than they are worth?"
You put them on and forget about them.
Unlike thongs which go in your bum crack and bikinis which seem to work their way down unless very tight.

Ive never been with a man wearing boxers or Y fronts, they seem to wear the male equivalent of big pants which is trunks.

viccat · 05/12/2020 10:21

I love M&S full briefs. Grin I mostly wear dresses and dungarees and they just feel so much more comfortable with big pants than some tiny things that keep falling down. No shame about them here.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/12/2020 10:26

I'm more puzzled by the OP wearing see through knickers on the weekend!

Is this customary in the UK?

sluj · 05/12/2020 10:30

OP, what happens when you get older is that you get more self confidence and start choosing things that you want to wear rather than things you think you should be wearing to be fashionable/not out of style/not frumpy. Your own self worth finally tips your sense of image.

When you get to that point, you may or may not decide to try big pants. The important thing is that you will have learnt not to be interested in what is expected or frowned upon, and you will be looking for what you want.

AurorasLighthouse · 05/12/2020 10:34

Wore them postnatally and now nothing else feels comfortable!

Almostslimjim · 05/12/2020 11:11

I bought some because everyone said I'd need them after my c section but the irritated me no end and I went straight back to my normal ones as soon as I got home. I guess I may find them more comfortable as I get older, but certainly not yet.

MillieVanilla · 05/12/2020 11:14

Because full briefs to give them their proper name are comfy as hell
Im late 30s and until about a year ago I wore tiny little pants. Not thongs as no one needs that aggravation in their life (or up the arse). But they were never comfy
Then I picked up the wrong pack of underwear and thought, sod it, may as well wear them
My god it was a revelation. No more elastic cutting in. No more wedgies. Comfy

CatholicKidston · 05/12/2020 11:17

'Oh God I love a big knicker'

Do you pair your big knicker with a red lip and a chunky heel Xmas Grin

WelliesWithHeels · 05/12/2020 11:44

For day to day I love a Cosabella mesh thong, a high rise Hanky Panky, or seamless/invisible Brazilian cut stretch silk. My version of "big pants" is a stretchy pair of boy shorts from Target. That paired with a cheapie Fruit of the Loom sports bra and an over sized tee is the most comfortable sleepwear ever!

boomshakey · 05/12/2020 12:24

To those making 'cheese wire' comments re thongs - under trousers (which is their only use, to avoid vpl and/or bunching) they don't need to be tight so size up.

I moved to big pants because I wanted no VPL, you can sometimes see thongs plus if I bent over I sometimes got the dreaded whale tail.

boomshakey · 05/12/2020 12:30

To add, l can’t speak for those who had c sections, but aside from that, small should not equal uncomfortable unless you are being economical with the truth about your real size.

But I find the fact my bum check is covered in cotton comfortable because it's warm & cosy if that makes sense.

Also, isn’t it awkward going for a wee, if your skirt waist band is below the top of your knickers?

How long are big pants meant to be, mine sit on the waist as do skirts if I wear them (prefer trousers & dresses).

Aside from all this, nothing beats a summer dress and no knickers on a warm day! It’s a lovely feeling!

Except when you get caught by the wind which has happened to me a few times 😊 🤦🏼‍♀️

StarlightLady · 05/12/2020 15:05

I still fail to understand how or why a big bulky second layer with no stretch under your outer clothes with a huge gusset can be comfy.

I still think lots of people are wearing the wrong size. If you wear a true size, briefer styles and gosamer fabrics are comfortable and fit better around the bum.

It’s not a case of giving in to style, fashion, or men come to that, it’s a case of stop squeezing size 10 knickers onto a size 18 body!
