Do you deep clean your house before putting up Christmas decorations and your tree?

I remember my mum massively deep cleaning the house prior to any decorations going up! and it's kind of stuck with me in my adult years.. just wondering who else does it?

Yes, but my version of a deep clean is my mother's quick once over... Grin

lazylinguist · 03/12/2020 14:51

No. Neither did my DM. It would never occur to me that my house needed to be extra clean in order to put up a tree and some decorations tbh!

Pebbledashery · 03/12/2020 14:52

@lazylinguist ha yes I suppose it seems bizarre as well! especially if you have a real Christmas tree with bloody needles everywhere - just going to make mess anyway!

I clean when I take them down, not before putting them up!

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/12/2020 14:53

Not me.

I struggle with fatigue, so getting the decorations up in itself leaves me spent!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/12/2020 14:53

I run the hoover around but that's about it...

PurpleDaisies · 03/12/2020 14:54

Is this a thing?

Marmite27 · 03/12/2020 14:55

We move furniture around, so it’s an opportunity to get behind things that don’t normally move.

FabulouslyFab · 03/12/2020 14:55

Deep clean when I take them down - it’s a great start to the new year!

larrythelizard · 03/12/2020 14:55

I plan to but only because my house is pretty disgusting. Also I'm sure some of the things others would deem as weekly cleaning is on my 'deep clean' list...!

Pebbledashery · 03/12/2020 14:59

@larrythelizard let me at it - I love cleaning :)

Yes, I am the same I herited this trait. Although I loathe it now as by the time I deep clean and put my tree up, 8 hours has passed 😩 I have a rather large tree that I insist on putting up myself 🙈

MyCatTibby · 03/12/2020 15:04

Yes I do! Decorations are going up on Saturday so giving the house a good going over tomorrow.

Fenellapitstop · 03/12/2020 15:05

I do before and after

justleavemebe · 03/12/2020 15:06

Yes I do Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/12/2020 15:07

Yes, because I’m reaching up high to hang things in places I don’t usually go near. It can get dusty and spidery up there!

(I’d say my idea of 'deep' clean is not as deep as a lot of peoples)

larrythelizard · 03/12/2020 15:08

@Pebbledashery I'll PM you my address now Xmas Wink

Pebbledashery · 03/12/2020 15:08

My tree is literally pint size and I bought one that was already decorated ha! - but I have a garland that little one put on the top! it's only DD and I for xmas this year so a huge tree is pointless for us! only bought a tree so I can put her pressies under it :)

Pebbledashery · 03/12/2020 15:10

@larrythelizard on my way with my industrial dyson :)

Breastfeedingworries · 03/12/2020 15:10

Where do you buy a tree already decorated from? Confused

Where is the joy in that...

MeringueCloud · 03/12/2020 15:11

Yes , I clean, not sure if it's a deep clean though! What exactly does that entail? Xmas Blush

JoeNotExotic · 03/12/2020 15:13

Always

DryRoastPeanut · 03/12/2020 15:14

Yes I do, my mum did, I thought everyone did.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/12/2020 15:21

I do usually have a bit of a blitz, more because guests are usually coming to stay.
The big antique wooden chest covered with a lot of brass and copper gets its annual going over with Brasso shortly before Christmas. It’s such a ritual now, Brasso smells Christmassy to me!

CheltenhamLady · 03/12/2020 15:23

Always, well, my cleaner does!
