Do you deep clean your house before putting up Christmas decorations and your tree?

I remember my mum massively deep cleaning the house prior to any decorations going up! and it's kind of stuck with me in my adult years.. just wondering who else does it?

No, I'll Hoover if we've moved furniture though.

maddiemookins16mum · 03/12/2020 18:55

I found a bauble from last year in the far corner of our lounge in August. That’s how much deep cleaning gets done here 😊

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 03/12/2020 18:57

@Titsywoo

I always wonder what people mean by deep clean. I think some peoples idea is my normal weekly clean Grin. So yes I clean before the decs go up but no more than normal.
Yes I want it clarified what deep cleaning is, like you I’m sure I think it’s my normal weekly clean though I don’t wash walls apart from the bathrooms, maybe I’m not as clean as I think!

@Pebbledashery

Warm water and a splash of washing up liquid!
Wow....I'd worry about the paint coming off!

Yes I also wonder what the difference is between a deep clean and a slightly more shallow one...! Shock
NovemberR · 03/12/2020 19:13

No. I find that a tree and decorations disguise the dust nicely.

DatingDickheads · 03/12/2020 19:13

Deep clean? Never done that!

Clean before putting the Christmas tree up? Never done that either.

CMOTDibbler · 03/12/2020 19:17

Nope. Although this year we've had a woodburning stove put in the sitting room this week, so all the furniture had to come out and it got a proper clean due to the dust.

Cam2020 · 03/12/2020 19:18

Yes, I'm on the process of doing this now! It includes a clear out of all (OK, some of) our tat to make way for new things.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 03/12/2020 19:19

Yes I do.

Cam2020 · 03/12/2020 19:20

Just to clarify why - we have to move some furniture around to accommodate the Christmas tree and other Christmassy items my daughter loves.

ShopTattsyrup · 03/12/2020 19:34

I'll Hoover the living room and the sideboard where I stick the christmas cards and candles gets dusted once the tree is in but before I decorate but that's just because of needles, and putting cards on the side makes me notice the dust oncthe side Xmas Grin

ArtemisBean · 03/12/2020 19:36

What exactly is a deep clean as opposed to a regular clean? Xmas Blush #slattern

cardswapping · 03/12/2020 19:41

Nope, I don't think I deep clean for anything. I do deep hoover if I see a moth, that's about it.

Megan2018 · 03/12/2020 19:42

God no. The purpose of decorations is to hide the dirt, no dusting until they come down (and possibly not then either!!).
Complete housework-phobe here.

Coquohvan · 03/12/2020 19:57

Yes I do too. My mother always had a pre tree up clean just followed on.
So lovely seeing the sitting room all clean windows washed skirtings done picture frames and mirror cleaned.
Always a real tree in our house, can’t beat the smell of it in the room. Its really not much of a mess as it doesn’t move once in situ.
When it comes down on 2 nd January we lay a tarp beside it and just fold it up and drag it out no mess apart from where it stood easy to vacuum that up.
Usually freshly prepare the spare rooms for the family to stay, this year just two can make it due to rules so 2 rooms instead of 4.

ChiaraRimini · 03/12/2020 20:05

Definitely not. I suspect these traditions date back to when people had open coal fires which created lots of dust. My living room just doesn't get that dirty. I will tidy, dust and hoover once the tree is up (not before as there will be needles everywhere) but that's all. No need to wash walls or upholstery. In any case "spring cleaning" is the time to do all that, when the light is better and you can see the dirt!

Pebbledashery · 03/12/2020 20:08

@cardswapping haha that made me laugh

Vulgarlady · 03/12/2020 20:12

A quick whizz around for me.
Although I now HATE snowy weather as the bright white light makes the floors look really dirty ( even though they’re not)
Does anyone else find this?

Honeyroar · 03/12/2020 20:14

I clean. Just to get rid of dust where decorations will go. I’m generally lax in my cleaning, I must admit.

SunscreenCentral · 03/12/2020 20:17

Yes and yes. It doesn’t feel the same if there hasn’t been a big cleanup

icelollycraving · 03/12/2020 20:25

Yes, before and in the new year when they all get taken down,

lachy · 03/12/2020 20:31

Yep, I do it before the tree goes up and again when it comes down and then leave it till Christmas

My mum did it, and it's just one of those things I've just adopted as "the law"...

Viviennemary · 03/12/2020 20:58

No. If I do clean it's after they come down

TheNighthawk · 03/12/2020 21:10

Yes - takes weeks
