So proud of the UK today

So, the UK is the first in the world to approve and roll out a Covid vaccination programme. (If another country had done this, say Germany, everyone would be going on about why can't we be as good as the Germans? Grin)

The UK had bought and tested a major amount of the right vaccine - it didn't get here by chance!

The UK Army (which really is world-class) is going to enable the largest vaccine programme ever.

It looks like a Brexit Deal is about to be struck.

And - next year, the UK will be banning the live export of animals. (We couldn't do that in the EU.)

Just feeling really good about the UK today Smile

It doesn't often happen, so I thought I would appreciate the moment Grin

I agree with you OP!

nosswith · 03/12/2020 08:30

Mr Johnson and Mr Van-Tam both acknowledged it was as a result of work in many places and countries and quite properly too.

I'm glad that there is a plan for rollout and that lives will be saved as a result.

Whenwillow · 03/12/2020 08:32

Thank you @derxa

ScribblingPixie · 03/12/2020 08:33

I'm with you, OP. Some good decisions have been made & there's a lot to be positive about today.

The UK Army (which really is world-class)

😂 Even my ex-army DH is laughing at this

Nomnomarrgh · 03/12/2020 08:38

@JazzRiff has it.

I Proud my country

Nomnomarrgh · 03/12/2020 08:43

I give up. It was a joke about how the government is all ready and practised to fuck up the vaccine as it has everything else. I take being British/English to mean I should not be proud of my government or country, as I need the sick bucket when the Yanks are at it.

Don't get me wrong, I like being English. And Brexit working out 😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹

How are you meant to run a democracy with this array of simpletons as the voters?

flashbac · 03/12/2020 08:46

Lots of trolling on this thread extolling the virtues of our corrupt and lying government. The vaccine has been rushed through due to the government doing a huge act of harm in severing our supply chains come end of transition period.
Hope the money is worth it or are people really this dumb? Tory/brexit supporters sound like cult followers.

yep im ex army and also laughing at the army comment.

PrancersgotnothingonPortia · 03/12/2020 08:49

Why hasn't the FDA approved this vaccine? After all it's made by an American Company manufactured in Belgium and will present huge logistical challenges I think Halfcock had to move quickly before brexit strikes, I'm worried about lorries with vaccine on board being stuck at the border waiting to get into UK
Hopefully the Astra Zeneca vaccine will be ready soon and as it has no border to cross the logistics may be a little simpler

TheSandman · 03/12/2020 08:51

@MsTSwift

Your post goes against everything English people stand for. We never praise the government nor are we ever pleased with ourselves and certainly not with our government. Are you sure you’re not American?
I think you'll find a lot of English people quite like the Tory Government - especially those friends, relatives, and business associates of ministers trousering lots and lots of lovely dosh in 'consultancy fees' - certainly a lot more than the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish parts of this 'united' kingdom.
IdblowJonSnow · 03/12/2020 08:52

The vaccine itself is excellent news, I'm in awe, in general, of the scientists involved.

I am so far from being in awe of our government it's untrue. But let's hope the rollout is the one good thing they will handle well throughout this pandemic.

Ironingontheceiling · 03/12/2020 08:53

certainly a lot more than the Scottish, Welsh, and Irish parts of this 'united' kingdom.

Ireland isn’t in the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland is.

Ireland is a completely separate, independent nation from the uk.

user1471565182 · 03/12/2020 08:54

bendmeoverbackwards please dont pretend you give a single shit about anti semitism or any racism whilst supporting the tory party. Who do you think you're kidding? want to talk about those Tory mps currently ranting about 'cultural marxism'?

Not that that piss take of an article actually does anything to address the issue. Sick hypocrisy.

feelingverylazytoday · 03/12/2020 08:57

@Biscusting

Valid points! But surely we’ll need such a large amount of the population vaccinated for the outbreak to be controlled compared to say OZ what could continue with aggressive track and trace and vaccination of front line only?
It's the other way round really. They will need to vaccinate a higher % of people because they have no community immunity.
derxa · 03/12/2020 08:58

I'm worried about lorries with vaccine on board being stuck at the border waiting to get into UK It's being flown in.

Leafyhouse · 03/12/2020 08:59

One thing for all the people complaining about rushed testing - drug testing / approval is something we're world class at, and we should very proud of UK abilities in that field. The MHRA was something we really brought to the table as part of our EU membership, and the EU medicines approval agency used to be based in London. We've lost it now due to Brexit, but anybody in the business would think twice before attacking the MHRA.
