The happy place cafe 2 - advent opening

sashh · 30/11/2020 11:32

Thanks to a couple of really nice PMs the cafe is reopening until and including Xmas.

For the regulars

The kitten bees are inside for winter, please watch out for them getting stuck in jam.

F and F seem to be slightly more than friends.

The water feature has become an ice rink.

To anyone new:

This virtual cafe is a covid free zone. There are a number of seats / sofas / wing back chairs.

It opened in the first lockdown, it is an escape from isolating, home ed, mask wearing. It is a happy place, it is the opposite of AIBU.

A different breakfast is served every day and sometime packing up to take to work.

Florence is a French pastry chef, Fernando is a cocktail waiter.

Dogs and children are welcome. Babies can be handed over to regulars to give you a break and we also have cots for them to sleep.

Outside is a cat amusement area with catnip bush and toys.

Kitten bees are kittens the size of bees with wings and their tails can transform into tiny umbrellas.

Morning
Ooh madelines are delicious I'll take 2 please.
How are you @sashh?

Waiting in today for a parcel.

MinnieMountain · 15/02/2021 17:19

Afternoon all

The madeleines smell amazing.

It’s felt positively balmy here. DS and I had a nice long bike ride.

Just a thought- if we added rice paper wings to the madeleines, they would look like kitten bees.

Cattermole · 15/02/2021 19:02

Good evening friends-I-haven't-met-yet and may I offer my congratulations to F&F. Ain't love grand?
We have sparrows thinking about baby sparrows in the eaves, so I'd be grateful if the kitten-bees didn't get ideas.
The growed-up kitten-bee that is my big lug the Tank is not speaking to me as he came in this morning with a patch of fur missing under his ear, so I lathered him in antiseptic cream that smells of creosote. His poor little dignity is offended...

But it is DRY oh blessed day!!! Dry all day!!!!!!

sashh · 16/02/2021 04:58

Morning all.

It's cold and very wet here so we need something warming but I think we need a treat too so lets base breakfast on Chocolate. So cakes, puddings, hot chocolate, coffee with hot chocolate and churros with chocolate sauce.

We have sparrows thinking about baby sparrows in the eaves, so I'd be grateful if the kitten-bees didn't get ideas

I had this for a couple of years, I have a cat and live in a semi detached bungalow. My next door neighbours had 4 cats. There is a 6 foot dividing fence which gives the cats access to the roof.

Non of the baby sparrows survived.

That's sad @sashh. This bunch of silly old duffers wouldn't get that far although Aubrey has the habit of sitting in a tree with his mouth open. A thing which fools nobody.
One of the other idiots has just fallen off the radiator so I think the wildlife are pretty safe.
That said, she knocked my coffee everywhere, so I'd be grateful for a top-up to go with my chocolate croissant.

Any plans for the day, anyone?

MinnieMountain · 16/02/2021 08:08

Poor babies.

Mine manages to get the collared doves which nest in our plane tree. Mainly adults though I think.

A chocolate croissant for me too please.

I’m doing an extra day in the office today. It makes a nice change. I don’t like this WFH malarkey.

BaconAndAvocado · 16/02/2021 09:13

Morning all 😀

Churros for me please. IRL I’m trying to lose my Christmas Pig-out weight and have just had yoghurt and fruit.

Minnie although I work from home normally as a home tutor, I can’t wait to get back to seeing my students face to face.
I had such problems with Zoom last week that I had to abandon a lesson 🤬

mogloveseggs · 16/02/2021 10:22

Hi
I love churros first had them in florida in the 90s on holiday.
Quick visit to drop dsf birthday present off on the doorstep and have a quick chat today for us.

sashh · 17/02/2021 06:32

Morning all.

After chocolate yesterday I think we shall have fruit, smoothies, toast and honey,

Morning
Sounds delicious thanks

MinnieMountain · 17/02/2021 08:49

Morning

Lovely. Are there any massive slices of watermelon? That would do me.

That must be really frustrating Bacon. It’s not for me, but I can see why people love teaching.

Half day for me today. Then DS and I are going on a nature walk.

sashh · 17/02/2021 10:43

Of course there is water melon, I even have the square ones that fit in the fridge.

OP posts:
mogloveseggs · 17/02/2021 12:26

Square watermelon?

BaconAndAvocado · 17/02/2021 22:29

Ooh I'm also intrigued by square watermelon.....

Managed to get DCs out for a bit today with promise of edibles. DD is driving me bonkers with her mood swings and she's only 12. Aghhhhh!

sashh · 18/02/2021 06:03

Morning all.

I feel for your daughter, I went through puberty (started at 11) early, you have teenage mood swings but are still a little girl in many respects.

Well as it is still wet and cold I thought we should go out.

The arboretum next door to the cafe has agreed to a 'festival of light', so we can walk through light displays, every so often there will be a haybox which F and F have filled with cakes, pastries, hot chocolate and hot cocktails.

The path is suitable for prams / buggies with seats along the way.

crazycatlady7 · 18/02/2021 08:15

Morning all, the festival of light sounds a perfect activity for today, and DS would love a treat!

Yesterday we went out in the rain as I hoped it was a shower but nope we were soaked 🤦🏼‍♀️ snuggles and a film when we got in.

mogloveseggs · 18/02/2021 10:19

Morning
Festival sounds absolutely perfect!
The square watermelons are weird. I then fell down a google hole and found ones with purple and blue insides!
@BaconAndAvocado Flowers for you and your Dd hormones are rough on everyone.

BaconAndAvocado · 18/02/2021 10:42

Morning all! Lovely and sunny here.

What is the festival of light? I can't help thinking of the Disney castle night time spectacular but I'm guessing it's not that!

mogloveseggs thank you. It is tough, DH thinks I'm being too soft on her and I don't really know what I'm doing with a highly strung tweenage girl. My boys were a lot easier.
Where is the guidebook please?!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/02/2021 10:45

crazycatlady snuggles and film sound blissful.
It's a shame mr kids don't want to spend any time with me unless I'm spending money on them 😂

Sorry, pity party over.

Cattermole · 18/02/2021 20:23

It has been a long old day here.... recycling and bins first thing, electrician in just after 8, new bedroom storage units for the Junior Engineer.... and am done.
Our kitchen started flooding on a daily basis on the 9th December and it has been three weeks dry today. They took the dehumidifier away yesterday and the electricians were a bit worried that the plaster further up might be damp and would start falling off in chunks when they came to replace the back-boxes that had rusted out.
It didn't. I now have proper lights in my kitchen again.
I deserve that hot chocolate....

sashh · 19/02/2021 08:17

Morning All.

Very slightly warmer here but we still need warm food so porridge, congee and kedgeree.

Florence has made croissants and Fernando is adding flavoured syrup to coffee, try the hazelnut.

MinnieMountain · 19/02/2021 08:54

Morning all

I had a potter round the light show with my 6am coffee. It was very relaxing with the birds singing too.

Then I did some work (stupid SDLT “holiday”).

Kedgeree for me please. It will give me energy for cycling with DS to the BMX track later.

Blimey Cattermole that sounds a right mess.

Gin for you Bacon it sounds like you need it.

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 10:40

Morning everyone.

Kedgeree for me please! Yummy.

Thanks for the gin MinnieMountain much appreciated.

DH coming home for lunch today so I’m being a good wife and making soup 😂

sashh · 20/02/2021 05:29

Morning all.

It's still cold so for breakfast lets head to Greenland for various breads made with rye, poppy seeds or wheat, served with cheese and salami. I've decided against serving whale or seal meat.

There is also yoghurt and berries and of course strong coffee.

OP posts:
Cattermole · 20/02/2021 17:47

Whale meat again @sashh?

There are times when I'm almost funny.....
