The happy place cafe 2 - advent opening

sashh · 30/11/2020 11:32

Thanks to a couple of really nice PMs the cafe is reopening until and including Xmas.

For the regulars

The kitten bees are inside for winter, please watch out for them getting stuck in jam.

F and F seem to be slightly more than friends.

The water feature has become an ice rink.

To anyone new:

This virtual cafe is a covid free zone. There are a number of seats / sofas / wing back chairs.

It opened in the first lockdown, it is an escape from isolating, home ed, mask wearing. It is a happy place, it is the opposite of AIBU.

A different breakfast is served every day and sometime packing up to take to work.

Florence is a French pastry chef, Fernando is a cocktail waiter.

Dogs and children are welcome. Babies can be handed over to regulars to give you a break and we also have cots for them to sleep.

Outside is a cat amusement area with catnip bush and toys.

Kitten bees are kittens the size of bees with wings and their tails can transform into tiny umbrellas.

We have snow - not much but it is definitely snow.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 08/02/2021 09:47

Morning all

Fingers crossed for F&F. They count as essential workers don’t they?

There’s nothing like leftovers for breakfast.

We’ve had enough snow to make snowballs in the garden. It’s mainly very cold still.

DS is procrastinating in magnificent style by reading and eating rice cakes. So I’ll enjoy my breakfast and a hot chocolate.

sashh · 09/02/2021 04:44

Morning all.

Frosty and icy here. So lets visit icy Korea.

Obviously there will be kimchi, various banchan, short grain rice and steamed eggs.

OP posts:
sashh · 10/02/2021 04:58

Morning all.

Well I won't be making Korean food again.

In fact I'm going to sit in the corner with the kitten bees, you can make toast for yourselves.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 10/02/2021 06:49

Morning @sashh.

I missed Korean food? Bugger.

It’s icy here too. The snow keeps on fluttering but doesn’t settle much.

Toast is good. There’s normally some jam in the cupboard isn’t there?

How did F&F get on?

sashh · 10/02/2021 08:36

oh my reply didn't post.

F and F are still AWOL.

OP posts:
mogloveseggs · 10/02/2021 08:41

Morning
Where's F and F gone?

sashh · 10/02/2021 08:59

@mogloveseggs

They claim to have gone to check their visa status. Florence is French so her's should be straight forward, but Fernando, well I have no idea of his country of origin, he was brought in by a regular and I can't remember who to ask them.

He might well turn out to be Fred from Barnsley with a put on accent.

OP posts:
sashh · 11/02/2021 05:14

Morning all.

I've had a postcard from F and F, apparently they are on honeymoon for a week.

I'm not sure it is true love or a visa thing, but they will be back soon.

OK breakfast.

Lets have eggs, chicken, duck or quail.

Boiled, steamed, coddled, convent, jaffled, scrambled or poached.

OP posts:
crazycatlady7 · 11/02/2021 08:52

Morning, poached eggs on toast would be amazing!

I do hope F&F are back soon.

I've had a few thought days with DS being sick and working from home. But he seems much better and wanting food again which is great. We are off for a walk this morning which will be nice to actually get put of the house.

How is everyone?

MinnieMountain · 11/02/2021 11:23

Ahh. Well they did keep disappearing together last summer.

Scrambled eggs on toast for me please.

It’s a lovely sunny day here.

One of the governors at our governors meeting last night suggested school work in the holidays to help the children catch up. Everyone was very polite but I think he was lucky it was a virtual meeting Grin

sashh · 11/02/2021 12:15

Eggs and toast all round, IRL too.

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 11/02/2021 19:38

MinnieMountain holy moly I bet that governor’s suggestion went down well!

I had a very Crap Mum morning today and didn’t get up until 9:10.... I just couldn’t rouse myself and think I’ve hit a wall. Got a big bar of Tony’s chocolate to share with DH so things feel a bit more positive for the time being!

sassh I’ll have some belated poached eggs please. So delicious but not something I’ve ever been able to master at home.

sashh · 12/02/2021 05:44

@sashh
Do you have a sandwich toaster? A spray of oil and break an egg into one 'triangle', 2 mins later it is just done, 2.5 mins for a solid white.

OK for today lets go all things pig/pork.

Sausages, ham, bacon, lardon omelets and polony.

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 12/02/2021 08:30

sassh I will definitely try the sandwich toaster hack!

MinnieMountain · 12/02/2021 09:41

@BaconAndAvocado like a lead balloon. But MIL also knows him and says he’s a twit.

Bacon sandwich for me please. With a side of polony as I’ve never tried it.

BaconAndAvocado · 12/02/2021 10:58

This thread is like a culinary journey of discovery for me!

What is polony?

sashh · 12/02/2021 12:08

@BaconAndAvocado Polony comes in a brightly coloured plastic 'sausage' skin. You can put it on sandwiches of with cheese. I have a feeling it is a Yorkshire thing, when we lived in Yorkshire it was always on the shopping list but I can't remember having it in Lancashire.

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 12/02/2021 12:52

I've never seen that before!

A big standard bacon sandwich on white (the only way to go with a bacon sarnie IMHO) with a dash of brown sauce please .

sashh · 13/02/2021 05:20

Morning all.

Well as polony was such a surprise I think we should sample some regional specialties, not necessarily breakfast foods.

From Scotland, white pudding and lorne.

Pie and peas from Lancashire.

Stand pie from Yorkshire.

Oatcakes from Staffordshire.

Scones with clotted cream and Jam from Devon / Cornwall - I'm not getting into the the argument about which goes on first.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 13/02/2021 11:31

Morning all

I love the fact that there’s still lots of sausage and pork in those specialities.

Lorne and Staffordshire oatcakes for me please. There’s an icy wind here today, so I need something that will stick to my ribs.

sashh · 14/02/2021 05:43

Morning all.

Well F and F are back, they have spent the night making pastries and developing cocktails.

They seem to have taught the kitten bees a new 'dance' it's a bit like a red arrows performance but cute and fuzzy.

OP posts:
mogloveseggs · 14/02/2021 14:00

Afternoon
Happy Valentine's Day to you all!
I'm off to settle in the cosy chair and watch the kitten bees.
Hope everyone is well?

BaconAndAvocado · 14/02/2021 18:38

Love the idea of the kitten bees performing a Red Arrows dance.

Feeling very full and spoilt. DH treated me to a delivered afternoon tea. It was plentiful, calorific and much appreciated.

Half term from tomorrow.I wonder what exciting things we’ll get up to.....

Happy Valentine’s everyone 💖

sashh · 15/02/2021 04:11

Morning all.

I'm leaving breakfast to F and F again, I think there might be some madeleines in the oven.
