The happy place cafe 2 - advent opening

sashh · 30/11/2020 11:32

Thanks to a couple of really nice PMs the cafe is reopening until and including Xmas.

For the regulars

The kitten bees are inside for winter, please watch out for them getting stuck in jam.

F and F seem to be slightly more than friends.

The water feature has become an ice rink.

To anyone new:

This virtual cafe is a covid free zone. There are a number of seats / sofas / wing back chairs.

It opened in the first lockdown, it is an escape from isolating, home ed, mask wearing. It is a happy place, it is the opposite of AIBU.

A different breakfast is served every day and sometime packing up to take to work.

Florence is a French pastry chef, Fernando is a cocktail waiter.

Dogs and children are welcome. Babies can be handed over to regulars to give you a break and we also have cots for them to sleep.

Outside is a cat amusement area with catnip bush and toys.

Kitten bees are kittens the size of bees with wings and their tails can transform into tiny umbrellas.

Ooo a hot chocolate please.

Very wet here too today. Have had a busy morning with DS online classes but finally nap time here. Just enjoying our cuddle.

I'm not being ambitious this week with cleaning 😂 feeling less motivated this week. Hoping to make cheese scones today with DS. 🤞

snowy0wl · 29/01/2021 11:53

Can you bring some cheese scones to the cafe? I’m planning to make some chocolate brownies this weekend.

DD has decided to change her nap routine today. She has just fallen asleep now instead of 3pm which means I need to re-jig my day! Lockdown is making it very difficult to stick to any sort of routine!

I am going to sit in the corner and pet the kitten bees for a bit.

sashh · 29/01/2021 12:00

I'm sure Florence can make cheese scones.

I'm trying to get to grips with inserting maths into word, I've been given 'Equatio' which is great, but when I transfer it to word the formatting goes to pot.

Churros?! Love them.
Me and DD made some at the weekend, the nozzle was too small and they ended up looking like anaemic diarrhea 😕

MinnieMountain · 29/01/2021 13:03

Another cheese scone fan here.

I’m going to have a go at an almond and pistachio cake for Sunday.

Is Fernando still making hot chocolate with alcohol in? DS and I have finished our work for the week, so I could do with something to fortify me for our bike ride.

That hilarious @BaconAndAvocado. Did you fry them?

BaconAndAvocado · 29/01/2021 13:47

MinnieMountain yes I made a sort of deep fat fryer in a big saucepan. The whole experience really made me yearn for some proper churros!

Love, love, love cheese scones Smile

sashh · 30/01/2021 07:12

Morning all.

Florence has been busy making various types of scones, but more cheese than anything else.

crazycatlady7 · 30/01/2021 08:31

Lovely; is there any onion chutney to go with them? We didn't make ours yesterday but went for a long walk in DS world..... not so much in mine. But he walked it all.

@snowy0wl I hope you slept well? We had 3hrs awake in the night and I feel awful this morning. I have a birthday get together (over the internet) tonight so can't have an early night.

sashh · 30/01/2021 09:15

Of course there is onion chutney, also mango chutney and various pickles.

After reading the 'normal in your house' thread I've invested in

a few sloth toys in the hopes they will attract a sloth obsessed cocker spaniel.

Morning!

It’s mucky out there, so I’m going to have my cheese scone in front of the fire. They smell delicious.

Lack of sleep sucks @crazycatlady7. Enjoy your birthday get together. Will there be wine?

We’ll have to drag DS out today. It doesn’t rain much here in Cambridgeshire, so he’s a bit of a fair-weather person. Unlike me who grew up in Pembrokeshire so I like the rain.

snowy0wl · 30/01/2021 10:13

Sorry to hear you didn’t get much sleep @crazycatlady7. Thankfully DD slept through last night (so grateful - I was exhausted!) but the previous night I was kept awake by the cats growling. We have a new cat in the area and my boys are not amused!

Enjoy your birthday drinks tonight. I’m going to try an online escape room later today.

Are there any fruit scones with jam for elevenses?

snowy0wl · 30/01/2021 10:14

I need to find the “normal in your house” thread - sounds amusing!

BaconAndAvocado · 30/01/2021 15:12

Afternoon all!
Cheese scone with onion chutney sounds perfect for a very wet day like today.

Is there any cream cheese ?

My dad's birthday today so we're having a very quick distanced doorstep celebration (I think that's allowed?)

Got the fire on......don't want to move from reading my book on the sofa.

sashh · 31/01/2021 04:05

@snowy0wl this one

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4149526-Whats-something-normal-in-your-home-but-probably-weird-in-others-homes

Well it is cold and wet but a fox has just trotted up and down the grove so I was happy to see her/him.

OK Florence has a made a birthday croque en bouche (she is French) Fernando has the cocktail bar ready for orders, I'm just going to cook various sausages and hand them out in different bread rolls.

Thanks @sashh. That thread is hilarious! 😂

Happy birthday @crazycatlady7. DD is ready to help blow out the candles on the cake. I’m hoping that the kitten bees leave the balloons alone.

I’m looking forward to trying my first croque en bouche.

crazycatlady7 · 31/01/2021 08:35

Thank you @snowy0wl and thank you @sashh and Florence for the birthday croque en Bouche.

I had a lovely evening with the girls last night (in a google room- also drank far more than I intended too but DS didn't ask for a feed in the night but partied for 2hrs in the middle of the night) DH and DS have spoilt me already. Looking forward to a lovely walk in NT garden, lots of cake. And the help from DS to open cards 😂

Any help with candles is appreciated and lots of cake to share!

We shall be back for hot chocolate and to sit by the fire after lunch. (We will need it after the cold walk)

MinnieMountain · 31/01/2021 09:05

Happy Birthday @crazycatlady7 Flowers

Maybe we could gather round the fountain later with a hot cocktail to sing Happy Birthday?

The platypus dog is brilliant. I stopped there because nothing compared.

BaconAndAvocado · 31/01/2021 20:44

Happy Birthday crazycatlady
Your birthday activities sound fab. Especially your walk to a NT property. We went for a walk on our local golf course, beautiful without the golfers.

A hot cocktail? Are we talking hot apple juice with toffee vodka sort of thing? If so, I'm in!

sashh · 01/02/2021 07:13

Morning all.

I think we need freshly fried doughnuts with warmed jam or custard.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 01/02/2021 07:45

Morning @sashh.

It’s definitely a donut day. With jam please.

Did you have a nice birthday @crazycatlady7?

BaconAndAvocado · 01/02/2021 10:31

Morning everyone!

Donuts and jam sounds marvellous.
Just got back from Asda click and collect.
I've hidden most of the naughty snacks, which will be released through the week to avoid mass instant devouring.

crazycatlady7 · 01/02/2021 16:45

Custard doughnut sounds fab- not that I've been living on cake today.

I had a lovely day yesterday thank you. A lovely walk, cakes, and a relaxed day with my two favourites.

Shame it was work today. Seems half of the team have covid now and I'm so glad I wasn't in last week now.

sashh · 02/02/2021 06:45

Morning all.

Fernando has put his cocktail making skills to good use and has made some fruit teas, try the raspberry.

For breakfast I think crumpets are the order of the day.

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 02/02/2021 10:09

Morning @sashh. How’s your studying going?

Raspberry tea and crumpets with butter and honey please.
