Metal loving MNetters rock on

DK123 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I thought it would be nice to start a thread for metal loving MNetters after speaking to @ApplesandAardvarks @NastyBlouse @IndemMUND about missed concerts. Great to find fellow Rammstein fans and metalheads!

Please join in if you love metal and enjoy going to concerts!

It'd be great if anyone wants to share info on new releases they've enjoyed, concert announcements, doesn't know many metallers and wants to link up with people going to a particular gig.

Let us know the last gig you went to and the ones you've missed this year or what new albums you've been enjoying recently!

The last gig I went to was 3teeth and I've been listening to the new songs from The Pretty Reckless and the new Katatonia release.

🖤🎸🤘🏻🎸🖤 Rock on everyone!

My pfb turned 30 this week, and we were supposed to be at HRH Vikings in Sheffield. We went last year and it was fab -Finntroll headlined! and I never thought I'd see them live cos they hardly ever come to the U.K..
This one has been rearranged for next December, so fingers crossed we will be there. Atorc will be there next year too Grin

QueenOfPain · 29/11/2020 17:09

Also a metal fan.

This year have missed Roadburn festival in the Netherlands, Damnation Fest in Leeds and Mono (Japanese post rock, not heavy metal but beautifully heavy in their own right).

We’ve had a very busy two years prior to this one, getting tickets for anything and everything and doing 200 mile round trips on school nights to see random bands in dimly lit rooms, drove to Brighton and back in a day (from Nottingham) for my boyfriends band to play a gig and other things along that vein so in a way I’m glad for a rest. But I do miss it, I feel so out of touch.

DK123 · 29/11/2020 17:12

@PomBearWithoutHerOFRS that sounds brilliant! I remember going to a HRH in Prestatyn a few years ago!

@QueenOfPain that's some incredible dedication! I'm no stranger to long drives back through the night to go home from gigs. You know it was a good one when you listen to the band you just saw all the way home!

DK123 · 29/11/2020 17:14

One of the last bands I saw was Five Finger Death Punch back in January, they were very good live! I drove down to London to see them and never seen such a big car park queue!

Pickypolly · 29/11/2020 17:18

Ahhhh I’m a fat frumpy old bird and I know that my colleagues at work would definitely raise an eyebrow if they knew that I had just listened to the Metallica Black album in my car on the way in to work.

I love Pearl Jam, saw them once you know. Yes. Yes I did, I saw them. Grin
I’ve been listening to the band “Live” loads during lockdown, lightning crashes is on repeat in fact, fucking superb.

Last band I saw in concert was the Foos. A boy with the biggest Afro stood right in front of me blocking my view of Dave, my next husband.
I tapped him on the shoulder and asked if I could stand next to him as I couldn’t see through his hair.
He looked like he had brought his mum to the concert!! Grin

indemMUND · 29/11/2020 17:29

I've found my people Grin

Last gig was Lindemann in London. My first ever afterparty. Incredible.

Did Rammstein in Berlin and MK last year.

Keeping everything crossed for rescheduled concerts next year!

QueenOfPain · 29/11/2020 17:33

I love Pearl Jam too @Pickypolly. We played Just Breathe from the Backspacer album at my brothers funeral. Hoping to get to see them at Hyde Park in July next year.

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 17:36

Great idea for a thread, and thank you for tagging me, DK123.

IndemMund i need afterparty details pleaseee. Flutters eyelashes

DK123 · 29/11/2020 17:42

@indemMUND I was at the MK Rammestein show and was desperate to see them in Berlin too.

I am in awe re the after party, where was it held?

I always wondered how to find out about special events for metal related stuff that you only ever hear about afterwards when you see pictures in a magazine.

I also always wanted to go to the metal hammer golden gods awards but no idea how to get tickets/invites. Sadly my dream of being a music journalist never became reality!

@Pickypolly I know how you feel 😂 we were sitting next to a group of young lads at the Slipknot concert this year and realised we could be old enough to be their parents. 😬 when Corey Taylor shouted "raise your hand if you weren't born when the first Slipknot album came out" and there was a huge "yeahhhh" and loads of raised hands in the audience me and my friend just looked at each other and had one of those "we're not that young anymore are we?" moments.

It feels like yesterday I was the kid at gigs, surrounded by boring adults in the audience. Not any more!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/11/2020 17:45

I was also at MK Rammstein! I have also missed Damnation Sad and Faith No More. I don't live anywhere near big gigs any more so I have to plan them out as trips.

QueenOfPain · 29/11/2020 17:53

Saw Faith No More at download a few years ago and it was a nice moment to finally see them, but it was a bit fucking weird with all the flowers and white clothes and I had a UTI making it’s way up to my kidneys so that dampened my experience somewhat. But bloody Mike Patton, babe Wink

That stage show would have been perfect for an arena or a big venue, but I think something was lost with the weather and the sound in the wind.

I’m a firm believer that watching holy grail bands in outdoor festival settings is highway to disappointment, however I’m getting on a bit these days and wear ear plugs at gigs to protect my hearing so maybe I’m just a bit joyless 😂

indemMUND · 29/11/2020 17:55

It was backstage, upstairs in the venue. Really small and packed with people but so much fun. The free booze went quite quickly! The only person who didn't come was Peter Tägtgren. Everyone was lovely. Till opening a bottle of wine with his bare hands and brute force was hilarious Grin

Samcro · 29/11/2020 18:00

I have only been to one metal concert. Hellyeah, avenged sevenfold and stone sour.
Was brilliant, did sort or go on my own.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 29/11/2020 18:06

I saw Faith no More once and they were awful Sad so disappointing! I think it was the sound people rather than the band, it was just a walk of noise, couldn't tell which song they were playing.
My dc and their friends have all been jealous over the years of all the band's I've seen though Grin metal bands just keep on trucking and my lot age from 30 to 13.
My sister and I have been going to gigs since the early 80s and still go, so we've seen a LOT of bands over the years.
I will never forget my then 14ish pfb, at Motley Crue, when the pole dancers came on stage... There he was, with a real live naked breast in his sight for the first time, and he was sat beside his Mam Grin Grin scarred him for life, for life I say

elp30 · 29/11/2020 18:08

I'm not entirely sure what's Metal these days.
I'm an old fogey so my teenage music memories and past gigs in the 80's were of the "hard rock" variety.

I did see Judas Priest, the Scorpions, Ozzy with Randy Rhodes, UFO, Iron Maiden, a young Def Leppard (I know, not exactly metal but it was 1982), Ratt, Whitesnake, Slayer, Dokken, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Rainbow (with Joe Lynn Turner) and Dio live when they came to my hometown in far west Texas. In that part of the world, that music was king with dedicated rock stations so the bands always came to play live. I love live music, as my father was a professional musician, so I went to as many gigs as I could when I was young, no matter the genre. Besides, back then, it was totally possible to win free tickets from the radio station and those gigs didn't cost more than $15.

Those were good days.

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 18:12

IndemMund Thank you. I can imagine how small the room was. That venue is tiny. We had the stand on the stairs for our meet and greet. I love the wine story. I can picture that. What did you think of Till? Was he friendly?

Ghostlyglow · 29/11/2020 18:42

Hi Smile I love metal and miss gigs so much Sad. The last I attended was Heavy Psych Sounds Fest at the Camden Underworld in March. One of the last gigs that took place as lockdown loomed. Don't let anybody tell you age is any sort of barrier - I turned 55 this month.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/11/2020 19:02

I've seen so much hard rock, metal and punk over the years. I used to spend a lot of my money on it - punk was always the cheapest when I was a student!
@Samcro I like Hellyeah! Gets you a bit revved up.
Regarding genre, I am not bothered if it's seen as metal, rock, industrial etc; I know what I like and it ain't pop music!

DK123 · 29/11/2020 19:09

@indemMUND oh wow, I wish I'd been there. I hope I will get to meet Rammstein before too long so I can marry my next husband (Richard Kruspe)!

OP posts:
DK123 · 29/11/2020 19:10

@BobbinThreadbare123 Hellyeah are great, not heard anyone I know IRL mention them!

OP posts:
DK123 · 29/11/2020 19:10

@elp30 those are some great bands! I forgot, one of the cancelled gigs this year was WASP, who I have seen before actually

OP posts:
BobbinThreadbare123 · 29/11/2020 19:11

Ok you'll have to fight me for Herr Kruspe!

wishywashywoowoo70 · 29/11/2020 19:16

Woohoo great thread

Missed out on Steelhouse Festival, Planet Rockstock, Thunder, A little festival that was happening in Swansea. Jizzy Pearl. God knows what else altogether.
Think last gig was Those Damn Crows or might have been Danny & Luke from Thunder
