Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

Anyone got any tips for cleaning the rubber washing machine door sill ?

BluebellsGreenbells · 21/11/2020 08:40

Oven doors

Try oven pride, put some liquid on the door and wipe round with the gloves - leave 2 hours or overnight

Put an old towel down under the cooker and the gunk drips

JML do a rubber broom, I use mine to collect ds long hair to prevent my vacuum getting clogged up.

I use the dog's rubber zoom groom to do the stairs, I imagine a broom on a stick would be awkward?

To clean limescale off taps rub them with a 2p coin.

Elbow grease spray & kitchen roll is brilliant for mirrors & glass. I vape & sometimes find that glass gets a film from the vapour, I spray some elbow grease on a piece of kitchen roll, it fetches it all off, no smears or marks.

Scrub water-stained/crusted taps with an old toothbrush and toothpaste, it all comes off like magic!

Maybe I'm the only one who let my taps achieve the state of 'crusty' Blush

E cloths are fab and eco friendly. They work with water only and remove 99% of bacteria too. The window set is amazing.

Another e-cloth fan here. I have been using the window set for years. You absolutely don't need anything other than water for cleaning windows if you use an e-cloth.

The deep clean mop was a massive game changer for me. It is much less effort to use than my steam cleaner which has been consigned to the loft, and much more environmentally friendly. It takes me less than 10 minutes to clean 2 bathroom floors, the dining room floor, kitchen floor, conservatory floor and downstairs loo floor with it.

And another vote for Barkeepers Friend for tough cleaning jobs. Not the spray though. The cream is excellent, but separates out if you keep it too long, so I now buy the powder, which is brilliant for dealing with burnt on food on my gas hob.

Toothpaste - yes, toothpaste Grin
I used it to get rid of the coloured plastic toy scrape marks off the bath. Nothing else worked.

Any recommendations for the manky bits between tiles?

salty78 · 21/11/2020 09:03

The Astonish oven and grill cleaner is amazing, smells like oranges and is non-toxic/eco friendly. I finished the oven shelves off with Brillo pads and it looks almost like new.

julesover40 · 21/11/2020 09:04

Thanks, I'd never heard of one. Just ordered one, with a black cat and pale carpets this could be a game changer x

drumst1ck · 21/11/2020 09:14

Any recommendations for what to clean cast iron hob topper thingys? They're huge as well so I struggle to fit them in the sink to scrub!

Mould on bath sealant. Soak toilet roll with thick bleach, push onto sealant & leave overnight. It’s like magic.

Any tips for little rust marks when a baking tray touches a white China plate in the dishwasher? I can't seem to get the little marks completely off...

Thewinterofdiscontent · 21/11/2020 09:24

I only buy rubber brooms after getting on in Lidl’s many years ago. They spend retirement being garden brooms. Fab for patios and leaves on grass.

My other Best Buy was an ironing board that has the plug built into the board. My German friend had one and couldn’t believe we had to plug the irons into walls. It’s a brilliant concept.

The pink stuff - I use it on my white quartz worktops and it removes any stains or marks
Thewinterofdiscontent · 21/11/2020 09:28

I don’t clean much so I need a decent cleaner when I do.

It’s probably toxic as hell but Cilit Bang Black Mould takes everything off. Yellow stains on toilet seats, grease on kitchen tiles and paintwork and obviously black mould.

FizzyPink · 21/11/2020 09:29

Oohh yes toothpaste is a great one for getting off marks. I may have once scrapped DPs white car alongside a red one in a supermarket car park and toothpaste got rid of all the evidence!

Mine are filthy probably as I hate doing them and pay someone to do it a couple of times a year but once they are clean the wiping oil over them makes them look lovely
RiftGibbon · 21/11/2020 09:38

Time consuming but a tip I got from MN - rubbing a 2p over crusty limescale will mostly remove it all. It just comes away.
I honestly didn't believe it until I tried it on my taps. Works best on chrome but it also got it off a porcelain sink.

Love this thread. Reading it instead of cleaning up Grin

For shower screens, a cup of tea (no milk) gets it's looking clear. Amazing !
