Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

Anyone know where can get a rubber or stiff bristle hand brush?

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2020 09:43

@diddl, B&M Bargains

IrmaFayLear · 21/11/2020 09:47

Great thread.

My tip I only discovered last week was cleaning the microwave with a lemon. After yet another soup explosion which had been left by someone to dry on Angry I tried an old lemon halved and microwaved for a few minutes. Boy, all the old gunk all round the sides and top just slid off, like magic, and no stink of chemicals!

Any tips on cleaning a leather lounge suite? It's white Blush I use wipes that are made for leather and the spray but it's still not clean. It's an off white now....

I was quoted over 400 to have it professionally cleaned.

Anyone know how to clean the bottom of lecruest pots, I’ve inherited a load from my mum as they are too heavy for her but I don’t think she ever cleaned the outside they are black.

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 09:50

I regularly use the lemon in water in the microwave.
For the main oven use oven liners. They can be lifted out and washed in the sink.No more scrubbing off drips.

Thanks!

Apologies for this grim one...yellow stains on loo seat rim. Any ideas? Bicarbonate hasn’t worked

Cherrysoup · 21/11/2020 10:00

@MellieNelba I always read these threads - find things I have never heard of .....and then buy...I am so easily influenced as I now await a bottle of Kilrock.

I promise, you won’t be disappointed, it’s amazing! I just did my shower, lots of chrome, left it on for longer than instructed and omg, the result is gleaming! I use the smaller concentrated bottle.

Dove soap. Or coconut oil shampoo.
NastyBlouse · 21/11/2020 10:05

@MrsGrindah Barkeepers Friend spray might be worth a go. Not very eco but Dettol citrus multipurpose wipes are good for this too.

Pink stuff.
CCSS15 · 21/11/2020 10:10

Don't use pink stuff on toilet seats if they are painted - I stripped the paintwork on one with it

Thewinterofdiscontent · 21/11/2020 10:10

MrsGrindah

I posted earlier - Cilit Bang Black Mould remover. Not very environmentally friendly probably but the strongest bleach ever. I use it on everything ( be careful if the loo seat has soft rubber bumpers underneath) because I am not a clean everyday person.

GooseberryTart · 21/11/2020 10:12

My skirting boards are really filthy and manky as have a big hairy dog who often gets wet and shakes.

Any top tips.

Also really hate cleaning our loo whats best for that?

2 questions:
I have looked on the website to buy the Deep Clean Mop. It isn't clear whether it comes with the mop head, or if I have to order separately?

Does anybody know how to get mildew type marks off a piece of leather furniture that was left in a damp room?
TIA

endofthelinefinally · 21/11/2020 10:20

I used viakal on my chrome bathroom fittings and it destroyed them. Sad It wasn't even my viakal, it was MIL's. Not something I would have bought myself.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/11/2020 10:20

@Thewinterofdiscontent

I only buy rubber brooms after getting on in Lidl’s many years ago. They spend retirement being garden brooms. Fab for patios and leaves on grass.

My other Best Buy was an ironing board that has the plug built into the board. My German friend had one and couldn’t believe we had to plug the irons into walls. It’s a brilliant concept.

So do you have to plug the ironing board in? I can’t get my head round this! Blush
TikTakTikTak · 21/11/2020 10:26

Can you use disinfectant with the e cloth mop? I've just read that you cant use bleach.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 21/11/2020 10:27

My niche Best Buy was Granite Cleaner from Lakeland.

Never any marks on the worktops, even on black granite.

userxx · 21/11/2020 10:29

@endofthelinefinally Thanks for that, I won't bother. How annoying!!

VinylDetective · 21/11/2020 10:30

@DobbyTheHouseElk, yes, the ironing board is plugged in. The bloke bought one and thinks it’s the dogs’ bollocks. I hate it because it’s huge and heavy.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 21/11/2020 10:30

Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster - makes short work of black grout in the shower

The Astonish range is much better than some of the more expensive ones too, and you can find it in Poundland.

Also, Elbow Grease (comes in a yellow spray bottle) is great for removing anything involving fat or grease

Peachy66 · 21/11/2020 10:33

If your kettle needs descaling buy a bottle of squeasy lemon juice,
Empty your kettle and squirt the lemon juice into it until the bottom of the kettle is covered. Leave for 10 - 15 mins then fill half way up with water and boil the kettle. Once boiled empty it then fill with water again and boil for a 2nd time. Empty the kettle and the inside will look squeaky clean.

Cooltalkin · 21/11/2020 10:34

What is this. ‘Pink stuff’ of which you speak ?
