Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

I saw someone using a window cleaning mop, probably like the super mop pro mentioned above, for cleaning their car. I haven't tried it but think I'll give one a go, our roads are muddy all winter.

@BlueSkies2020

Can someone post a link to the rubber broom please

Also I’m looking for a good mop hardwood floors. Don’t want it too wet

I have a Bona spray mop with fluid specially for wood floors. It was recommended by the guy who sanded and revarnished ours, and he was right - it's fab. Cleans well and dries in a minute or two.

Any natural ways to keep my kettle limescale free please?

CCSS15 · 21/11/2020 04:26

I add a splash to a spray bottle of 500ml but I have done it in a bowl of water too the first time I tried it. I use it everywhere now instead of polish - it is wet (obviously) so for anything that shows smears such as a mirror I spray directly on, wipe with a cloth then leave a few minutes to dry then buff over with an old tea towel

Pink stuff

Citric acid - couple of big spoonfuls in boiling water, leave for 20 mins, tip out and rinse - buy online or in chemist. I also run through dishwasher and washing machine to help with linescale
yetanothernamitynamechange · 21/11/2020 04:33

Not in the spirit but... I find taking my glasses of as soon as I enter the house saves me loads of time on cleaning.

LoislovesStewie · 21/11/2020 05:35

Kilrock gel, excellent for getting rid of limescale, cheap lemonade for descaling the kettle, just boil the kettle with enough lemonade to cover the limescale and it goes. Burnt pans; soak in bio washing powder, works a treat.

Magicsprinkles · 21/11/2020 06:09

Ha! Agree with you yetanothernamechange I’m definitely more grinch than hinch!

thelegohooverer · 21/11/2020 06:19

Rubber broom, you say? Huh.

For skirting boards I wear fluffy socks and do them with my toes while I’m chatting on the phone. I may have misjudged the tone of this thread

bouncydog · 21/11/2020 06:28

For long haired cat hair rub the carpet with a training shoe sole. Cat hair on the sofa use a damp cloth. Cat hair on the duvet 😡 one of those sticky clothes rollers. And no they’re not supposed to be in the bedroom or on the sofas.

Frazzlefrazle · 21/11/2020 06:35

Always clean the oven when it's warm, much easier. I also got some black liners for the bottom and tray for the oven which makes cleaning it much easier.

WattleOn · 21/11/2020 06:57

I’ve just used a magic eraser/magic sponge on my glass stove top. Holy cow! Wish I had taken photos so I could do before and after shots of the scorch marks.

Wishing14 · 21/11/2020 06:59

Vinegar also descales kettles perfectly. Add with some water and boil, then boil once with just water before using as normal. Much better for the environment too.

@Turnedouttoes

Any tips for getting very dried on water marks off a shower screen? I’ve given up explaining the function of the squeegee to DP Hmm
I hang a microfibre cloth by the shower, and even my husband finds that easy to use! Much better than the squeegee!
ThistlyPerf · 21/11/2020 07:05

Denture cleaner tablet for cleaning my moon cup. This was a tip I got on MN -thank you whoever posted it- and it has changed my life!

Littlepond · 21/11/2020 07:06

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat

I'm also looking into a robot vacuum +mop for Black Friday. It might incentivise me to keep the floors clear of clutter!
I got a Eufy recently and it’s amazing. I love it. My downstairs is mostly open plan and he just vacuums it all. My floor is vacuumed daily now. Daily. It’s so freaking clean!!

Plus I talk to him when I’m working at home alone Grin

Jroseforever · 21/11/2020 07:14

Ok I am a bit of a cleaning obsessive. You could eat your dinner off my toilet seat if you so wished.

These are brilliant for getting around the side of the hob and under the rim of things. Really good.

Audio books. I can lose myself in 2 hours of cleaning and it feels like a pleasure

Robo vac. Life changing. Straight after dinner whilst I’m tidying kitchen I put it on in the dining room. By time I have finished, dining room looks immaculate. Honestly so many people have asked how I keep my crepes pristine with two young children, and aside from being a bit anal (!)... it’s all down to my robo

Viakel also my recommendation

Blastandbollocks · 21/11/2020 07:17

Eufy is a game changer. Set him off, left him while I showered, bedroom done. Ditto living room while cooking dinner. It's not perfect, I still need to do bits in corners, but for a daily keeping it presentable, it's amazing.

Pinkypie86 · 21/11/2020 07:17

Why has this already made my Saturday?? We have mainly wood flooring, and the dog has wrecked a beautiful rug, will it work on the shaggy rug? Off to B&M :)

Velvian · 21/11/2020 07:33

@Wishing14, when you say boil the kettle with vinegar, are you talking malt vinegar or white vinegar?

MenaiMna · 21/11/2020 07:38

RainEx (for car windscreen) on the glass shower

TomblibooEeesTrousers · 21/11/2020 07:39

Another vote here for method spray to clean the shower screen. Viakal is also brilliant for removing limescale.

I consider myself a lazy cleaner and I just got an e-cloth mop from dunelm. You wet the microfibre cloth, stick it on the mop, chuck around some of the ready mixed method floor cleaner and mop away. Microfibre cloth then goes in the washing machine. Clean floor with minimal effort Grin

Avoid vinegar
Stinks and takes ages to flush out

Waitrose own brand descaler is cheap and phenomenally effective

gildalilly · 21/11/2020 07:43

@Cherrypies

Any tips for burnt on brown cooking stains on glass dish please

Try a bit of neat washing powder and small amount of water. Soak and then wipe.
