Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

Any tips for getting very dried on water marks off a shower screen? I’ve given up explaining the function of the squeegee to DP Hmm

Cillit Bang and a scouring pad works for me.

@CCSS15

Glass, windows and mirrors - fabric softener in water and smells amazing too - only time I've ever had smear free glass and I've tried nearly everything
Interesting. How much conditioner to how much water? Do you spray it on, or fill a bowl?
GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/11/2020 00:47

Viakal spray is good on shower screens.

I've yet to try the spray but I love the Elbow Grease 'scrub mate' things. I used one of those in conjunction with the Viakal to remove stubborn limescale marks from the shower screen. Left it on for a while after scrubbing then rinsed.

White vinegar spray somehow doesn't tackle the limescale in these parts. I can't understand why not!

I also rate Fairy sponges for washing up. Cheapest place to buy them is Wilko Grin

I use Method shower spray every morning after the last person has showered. It stops the lime scale from starting.

LintonTravelTavern · 21/11/2020 00:51

Im off B&M now, they open at 08.00 Grin

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/11/2020 00:53

Haha Linton (love the reference!)

I use the cheap and cheerful £1 shower spray from Wilko plus a squeegee after every shower. Takes seconds and I didn't want my Viakalathon to be in vain Grin

I'm also looking into a robot vacuum +mop for Black Friday. It might incentivise me to keep the floors clear of clutter!

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 21/11/2020 01:09

Shower screens - equal parts white vinegar and a good washing up liquid.

Cherrypies · 21/11/2020 01:30

Any tips for burnt on brown cooking stains on glass dish please

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 21/11/2020 01:38

@Cherrypies Try a hard dishwasher tablet. Just wet the end of it and rub. Also works on the inside of your oven door glass.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 21/11/2020 01:39

Or if you can place it on direct heat, try boiling some water and lemon juice.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 21/11/2020 01:42

Biological washing detergent for burnt on stains. Has to be bio not non-bio but powder/liquid/tablet all work.

I'd leave it to soak in warm - not boiling - water and give it a scrape occasionally.

JoeNotExotic · 21/11/2020 01:47

I feel like such a mum saying this but I completely agree OP they are awesome!

Washing powder, the stuff you put in the washing machine. Add boiling hot water and leave for 15 minutes then wash as normal.

Also works on frying pans - even removes oil stains!!!

LintonTravelTavern · 21/11/2020 02:23

@Cherrypies, I use a paint scraper, it gets them off in seconds.

LintonTravelTavern · 21/11/2020 02:25

Like this Screwfix window scraper

Frownette · 21/11/2020 02:30

Rubber brooms...? What sorcery is this?

Perhaps I've been living in a cave but I haven't heard of them!

Flatpackback · 21/11/2020 02:31

OvenMate oven cleaner is fantastic. Brush on, wipe off with cold water, no scrubbing or effort needed. It works on baking trays, glass dishes, the glass door on the wood burner & of course, the oven. It just brilliant.

loadypoady · 21/11/2020 03:00

@BlueSkies2020

Can someone post a link to the rubber broom please

Also I’m looking for a good mop hardwood floors. Don’t want it too wet

www.very.co.uk/jml-super-mop-pro-and-wonder-brush-set/639565586.prd

This is the best mop I have ever bought the floor is almost dry after mopping.
I agree about the rubber broom no dogs in this house but it makes light work of collecting mine and dd’s hair in the room where we blowdry our hair.

loadypoady · 21/11/2020 03:04

I purchase my replacement mop heads from the JML website or flea bay.

I8toys · 21/11/2020 03:15

This is a brilliant thread. Added flash erasers to my Tesco shop.

LintonTravelTavern · 21/11/2020 03:19

Can someone pop round and declutter my hovel home, before I can actually CLEAN?

I8toys · 21/11/2020 03:22

Leave the roll of bin liners in the bottom of the bin. Quick change. That's all I've got!
