Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

@SOboredofcleaning

Any natural ways to keep my kettle limescale free please?
Lemons, cut a couple in half and chuck in, fill with water, boil and leave overnight. Quick rinse in the morning and nice clean limescale free kettle

Can viakel be used on the taps and other silver bits in the bathroom ?

SunshineCake · 21/11/2020 07:54

This thread has reminded me I already have a rubber broom. It has been hanging up in my utility room waiting for my regular brush to break Grin.

I found the dishwasher tablet didn't clean my oven door.

Think I saw someone post about rubber brooms elsewhere on this site and got one. They are amazing for dog hair. Combined with a new hoover my carpets look almost new again!

For descaling and getting rid of limescale , rather than a named product, just buy citric acid. To descale the kettle, just add and boil, to do the toilets, just sprinkle in and clean later. It’s like a miracle. You can dissolve and use as a paste or put through coffee machines etc.
All that is in things like kilrock is citric acid.

Wishing14 · 21/11/2020 08:01

@Velvian it can be either really but I use white!

Koh is good on shower screens and ovens

Not RTFT but my rubber broom came from Wilko. I was so impressed that I bought a dustpan and brush too but they were from B&M.

A quick sweep before vacuuming picks up a lot of hair so don't need to empty the cleaner so often.

E cloths are fab and eco friendly. They work with water only and remove 99% of bacteria too. The window set is amazing.

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 08:10

@Cherrypies a metal coiled scourer is great for cleaning burnt bits.

Brillo pads are good for oven door cleaning

I’d never heard of rubber brooms.,
But when we had both dog and cat shedding fur everywhere, when doing the (carpeted) stairs I just used to give them a quick wipe over with a damp sponge cloth. It picked it all up and left nice little balls of fluff for the vacuum cleaner. Worked brilliantly and took hardly any time.

oooh

EternalOptimist7 · 21/11/2020 08:15

Can anyone recommend a sweeper that I can attach my laminate floor wipes to please?

Wavingnotdowning · 21/11/2020 08:16

Link to rubber broom

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07L15K3KM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

The best mop I have found is. Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set from Dunelm. It has its own sneezy thing and leaves the floor fairly dry

Just stick them over the rubber broom.

I've got a special stick thing that you attach the wipe to but it came in a pack fromPoundland about 15 yrs ago.

FlatterNow · 21/11/2020 08:24

Well, I've just ordered a mop and rubber broom! Sounds amazing for our slightly cat-hairy house and laminate floors.

Anyone got a way to get stains off white sealant?

Eddielzzard · 21/11/2020 08:25

Shiny Sinks. Makes my sink very very very shiny Grin

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 08:26

Bar keeper’s Friend is good for lifting stains on surfaces.

OP - you rubber broom has a built in floor squeegy - turn it round and it pull all the dirt and water off the floor leaving it dry

CovidAnni · 21/11/2020 08:38

@YorkieTheRabbit

A normal rubber edge shower squeegee works fine on stairs Smile
Now that is useful! I’ve been sending off student houses share dcs off with squeegees for years, only for them to return unused so I have quite a collection!
Belledan1 · 21/11/2020 08:39

I will be ordering a broom and descaler later.

Got a ceramic hob. One ring we use alot looks a bit burnt close up. Any tips please. I bought some hob cleaner but not great. A good way to clean bottom oven is to put bit water on bottom. Turn oven on for a bit then I put an old towel that I keep just for this on bottom to absorb all the water. So easy to clean then.
