Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

nevernotstruggling, also check on YouTube for tutorials on how to service Dyson appliances. Just search for Dyson + model number.

Verrucapepper · 28/11/2020 21:39

How can I get rid of white marks around the plug of my grey/black granite (old) sink?

nevernotstruggling · 28/11/2020 22:01

@Calmasasleepycat thank you

TimTamsAreForEating · 28/11/2020 22:18

@slothy thanks for the tip. I've never heard of brick acid.

The stains i have are above the water line in the toilet, so would this still work? Could I put it in the cistern, so it came through with each flush?

tapdancingmum · 28/11/2020 23:00

My top is HG Headstone cleaner for the tiles in the bathroom. Make sure all windows and doors are open as it will blow your head off but it's so good at getting the soap a d shampoo marks off my tiles around the bath.

I need to get a new mop as have just had laminate floor laid downstairs so will be comparing all the recommendations from here.

Hopespring · 28/11/2020 23:21

I've just bought a rubber broom from b&m for about £4 and it's cleaned my rugs better than the dyson!. Thanks for the recommendation... So happy. ..I know how sad that sounds 🤣

Fabulosa laundry disinfectant:£2.49 for a litre;I have a 11 year old who is disabled and has continence issues,a 13 year old who's entering the learning to manage body odour phase and a 16 year who's into long bike rides with his mates and comes home with stinky sweaty clothes afterwards;laundry disinfectant makes the difference between having to wash at 60 or 40 to remove bad odours.

Other brands do it but it's far more expensive

Brick acid is used by builders for cleaning limescale, cement etc. It’s really strong hcl acid to use as a last resort in the loo when all other methods have failed... I’d definitely avoid putting it the cistern as it’s too strong. I’d push as much of the water out the bowl with the toilet brush then put in 2 or 3 capfuls of acid acid and repeatedly scrub with the brush every hour or so. It’s a nasty chemical so use sparingly and with caution. Good luck...

I wouldnt put in sistern may destroy the seals. You could try putting vinegar down into bowl, making sure you get iy on the sides, leave overnight or whilst your out at work. Need to scrub then repeat if needed

nevernotstruggling, I recently had my stick Dyson battery gave up, I contacted them for a replacement battery, (already changed battery under guarantee years before) I was told the battery was no longer manufactured, but for 125€ offered me a replacement with a V7 Animal,(they sell new for around 300€)
I had to return the old one, but they sent the label so no cost.
Call them & see what they say

formerbabe · 29/11/2020 12:22

Does the rubber broom on carpets and rugs just pick up hair or does it also pick up crumbs and other dust?

CarpeVitam · 29/11/2020 18:33

@Ddot

Carpevitam Found this on net, I'm going to investigate.
@Ddot Thank you! Let me know how you get on with it please? Smile
CarpeVitam · 29/11/2020 19:01

Heavy limescale in loo - tip a whole bottle of vinegar in and leave as long as possible before flushing. Try to do it on a morning when you will be out all day so it get a good few hours.

Rainingagaininseattle · 30/11/2020 00:52

AMhomely mould remover gel is amazing for mould on bathroom tiles

pinkbalconyrailing · 30/11/2020 11:36

anyone got a good tip to remove sand?
our pavements in the area have been replaced and are in the 'sand everywhere' stage until it's swept next week...

Furries · 30/11/2020 14:47

So many great ideas, going to make myself a list! I can second the Dr Bekkman carpet stain remover - works a treat when the cat brings up a furball.

MiniMum97 · 01/12/2020 23:14

@Squidwitch

If you watch obsessive compulsive cleaners or hoarders, you'll find you no longer need to clean as your home will compare amazingly better. Also I paint the grout and sealant twice a year with white emulsion and wipe off the excess while damp. Life is too short to clean grout.
What any old white emulsion? Really, it doesn't peel off?
nevernotstruggling · 03/12/2020 09:54

@pinkbalconyrailing sand from where?

Talcum powder removes sand brilliantly from children 😂

pinkbalconyrailing · 03/12/2020 10:41

sand on the floors trodden in from outside.
for beach sand on feet we use flannels.

Ddot · 03/12/2020 10:48

CarpeVitam
Arrived I've emailed seller he said to wash product off with water after use.

longtompot · 06/12/2020 10:24

How do you all clean the compartment the washing powder and fabric conditioner slides in and out of? I've just noticed mine is awful, despite meant to be a non moulding one. I was wondering if a steam cleaner would work? I've cleaned the powder buildup before but it is really tricky. I've currently got a machine cleaner in the drum but I don't think that will touch the drawer.
