Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

@Fuss thank you - I’ll give that a go to keep it looking as best it can now I’ve done the Ariel tip.

I have just discovered Bartenders' Friend. My white plates have lots of grey cutlery marks on them So much so I was planning on replacing them.
With Bartenders' Friend you just wipe them off with a cloth while listening to the Archers. No effort at all really. And the plates are £8 each, so quite a saving.

Try my tip with washing powder and damp cloth, will take some elbow grease. It's just after your post. Hope your feeling fit. I've done my bedroom carpet like this but its hard work

OMG get one of these gadgets if you have dogs with bad hair loss. A quick swipe over the carpet and OMG the PILES of hair that comes out is quite mad. And I thought my carpets were clean!!! Saw this on an Instagram or FB advert and then bought one cheaper on eBay. It's brilliant!

You don't need chemicals to clean oven shelves if you have a dishwasher - just a wire scourer (and rubber gloves if you value your nails!)
Bung in on a hot wash, remove while the cycle is still going and they're hot. The burnt on stuff and grease just comes off.
You can do the same with an oven liner if you use one, so you can end up only needing to clean the door.

I have a laminate floor which is kind of pitted; it’s a rented house and most definitely wouldn’t be my choice. It’s absolutely filthy and I can never get it fully clean so I never get completely on top of it.
Does anyone have any tips?

CarpeVitam · 24/11/2020 21:34

@Ddot

CarpeVitam Someone said bleach but too scared what if it goes yellow 😭
Yep, don't think I'm brave enough to try bleach! 😯

@AlwaysLatte

Any tips for getting very dried on water marks off a shower screen? I’ve given up explaining the function of the squeegee to DP I use Method shower spray every morning after the last person has showered. It stops the lime scale from starting.
Mr Muscle Platinum bathroom is astonishingly good on the shower streaks left behind after squeegee-ing. It really does get all the residue off. And off tiles too.

My husband didn't believe, so decided to try. Amazing results in minutes. Just can't believe all the plates I chucked!!!

Thanks Ddot

Ginfordinner · 25/11/2020 13:08

Do you mean Bar Keepers Friend?
I agree it is amazing stuff. Pity about the smell.

userxx · 25/11/2020 13:29

I have just discovered Bartenders' Friend.

My favourite friend.

nevernotstruggling · 25/11/2020 13:49

I did the rubber broom/squeegee. I should have persevered with the before I am astonished!!! I think what happens is the hair lies flat and traps a layer of grime under it. The dragging the hair off the carpet was more effective than washing it!!

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 26/11/2020 08:12

I have to admit, I’ve been holding off buying a rubber bristled broom, but I did take my shower squeegee and run it around the carpet upstairs and the actual stairs - holey moley!

I don’t even have any pets atm, and I ended up with handfuls of hair!

No wonder my hoover struggles and I use it for 10 mins, then spend 10 mins cutting hair out of it.

@userxx

Nope, Swarfega was pink. First time I bought Pink Stuff I thought “Ah, this is Swarfega

Nope, it's green.

There is an extra strong Swarfega which is pink.

DH has both

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2020 10:06

@Mylifesadrama

Put your trainers on (clean of course) and go around the house rubbing along, it will do exactly the same, pull up loads of hair and give you exercise to boot! I’ve had a rubber broom, and actually find the trainers a lot easier and far more effective.
I do this wearing crocs.

It is one of only two acceptable reasons for buying and wearing them. The other is to wear in campsite showers.

Mrsjayy · 26/11/2020 10:07

DH has a green swarfega in the shed .we also have swarfega handsoap he "acquired" from work it is fab for keeping your hands soft Smile

nevernotstruggling · 26/11/2020 10:18

I think I've destroyed my dyson with hair. The dog hair is one thing it's mine and the dds hair that's done it!!

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 26/11/2020 10:21

I have a few time’s recommended the rubber broom it it’s the only thing that gets hair out of the carpet apart from rubber goves

I watched a programme about borders last night and they put oven shelves/trays in the bath (with an old towel to protect the bath) and added a few dishwasher tablets - o shall be doing this at the weekend and shall report back

Ddot · 26/11/2020 10:22

If it's old type swarfega it's carcinogenic

adropnotabit · 26/11/2020 10:40

Roborock vacuum and mop has saved many hours as we have a large expanse of bamboo flooring. Also biro on fabric can be removed with hairspray.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/11/2020 11:53

@Ineke

Little pond...I clean someone's house for them, they have a robot Hoover, I find it company while I clean. I lost it once and even looked out in the garden and upstairs for it! It had got under a kitchen cupboard and run out of battery. How stupid of me to think it could climb the stairs. Glad that it turned up, like an old friend!
I don't know - Daleks learned how to levitate . . .
Flatpackback · 26/11/2020 16:02

A big thank you to all posters who recommended Bar Keepers Friend.
I’ve just removed rust stains from a Belfast sink and thirty odd years of cutlery marks from my dinner plates. Fantastic stuff.
