How many types of pasta do you usually have in the cupboard

Dh doing the weekly shop - asked him to grab some conchiglie as had run out. His response - but we already have penne and spaghetti.

Now if he’d looked a bit closer he’d also know that we have a few others too, but I can’t rest easy unless I have at least shells, something tube like and spaghetti at least in the house. Am I a weirdo? What pasta do you keep “in stock”?

Just checked I have 5 types Blush
Orzo
Spaghetti
Penne
Shells
Spirals

RebeccaGillies · 13/11/2020 17:16

Spaghetti, macaroni, lasagne, wholemeal spiral, white shell, sometimes tagliatelle and rigatoni

IDontMindMarmite · 13/11/2020 17:18

We just have Spaghetti and fusilli at the moment, but I know what you mean. If a recipe calls for Conchiglie then Penne just won't cut it.

See if he’d looked there’s also the ears one (can’t spell it), lasagne sheets, orzo and some squid ink one that I always mean to use and never do!

I currently have penne, macaroni, shells and lasagne sheets in the cupboard. Often spaghetti too. Also fresh tortellini in the fridge. YANBU!

TyneTeas · 13/11/2020 17:19

Currently have fusilli, conchiglie, spaghetti, macaroni I think

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/11/2020 17:20

Errmmm...
Pasta... Whichever shape I fancied. Often the tricolour stuff, the kids like that.
Spaghetti (sometimes)
Do you count noodles? (For stirfrys etc)

One of the countries I used to live in, you could buy shapes like dinosaur or unicorn (like the tinned pasta in tomato sauce, but just the dried pasta shapes). We had fun with those.

Darkestseasonofall · 13/11/2020 17:20

I always have about 5, a linguuine, penne, orzo, strozzapreti and some weird shapes the dc wanted

RhinestoneCowgirl · 13/11/2020 17:21

I only keep spaghetti, lasagne sheets and some kind of shape (currently penne) in stock.

We don't eat that much pasta tho, reminds me too much of when we were skint students...

ginsparkles · 13/11/2020 17:21

A horrifying amount!
Spaghetti
Fusilli
Penne
Lasagne
Orzo
Macaroni
Tagliatelle
Conchigile
Farfalle
Plus some fresh tortellini in the fridge and pasta flour just in case ....

Pasta is a staple in our house!

DuesToTheDirt · 13/11/2020 17:21

Macaroni, linguini, spaghetti, lasagne, orzo, shells...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/11/2020 17:22

(no egg)
Tortellini
Spaghetti
Farfalle
Lasagne sheets

(with egg)
Breitbandnudeln
Spätzle

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 13/11/2020 17:22

While obviously some recipes call for certain shapes - I also find it’s like drinking out of your favourite glass for certain drinks... if you want rigatoni with your tomato sauce - that’s what you want!

I'm a bit anal about what shape pasta I cook with different recipes.

dudsville · 13/11/2020 17:22

Ahhh, my thread! I dreamed last night that we were running low on pasta. I remembered the dream this this morning when I happened to be looking in the cupboard for something else. We have 7 varieties. I think the dream was referring to the fact they are mostly gluten free and I do like a flour rich pasta and we are low on that.

Thesearmsofmine · 13/11/2020 17:24

Spaghetti
Tagliatelle
Macaroni
Orzo
Penne
Fusilli

And usually some kind of animal/shaped pasta

MrsJunglelow · 13/11/2020 17:25

I have fusilli, spaghetti and lasagne sheets.
My preference is for conchigile but fusilli was cheaper

Thesearmsofmine · 13/11/2020 17:27

Ohh i forgot lasagne sheets!

DarkDarkNight · 13/11/2020 17:27

Spaghetti, macaroni and usually either penne or fusilli but I have just started getting spirali pasta which I really like so may just stick to that. I have some shells (conchiglie) too from the first lockdown as it was all I could get but my son won’t enetertain them as he says it hurts to swallow.

elliejjtiny · 13/11/2020 17:28

Spaghetti (for spag bol)
Either fuisilli or penne for pasta bake

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 13/11/2020 17:28

I’m not a fan of fusilli- it doesn’t “grip” anything. Am I missing out on a redeeming feature?

Spaghetti, the 1 metre stuff, it was a gift.
Orzo
White pasta twists
Wholewheat twists
Egg noodles
Giant wholewheat couscous
GF rice pasta twists
GF buckwheat noodles
GF black bean noodles
GF chickpea twists (tried them, very strong flavour, prefer the rice ones for most things. Nice in a salad though).

oldwhyno · 13/11/2020 17:34

always got spaghetti, lasagne, often macaroni, then usually one or two other types.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 13/11/2020 17:34

I don't like fusili, I don't find it cooks evenly (prob my fault).
I've got pappardelle, spaghetti, lasagne sheets, penne, macaroni and canneloni tubes.

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 13/11/2020 17:36

To be fair the 1 metre pasta only counts because we keep forgetting about it. It's been shoved to the back if the cupboard, literally. If it's at the front it gets in the way. It's probably massively out of date!
