Dog food bowl in dishwasher

So just went to give dog water and noticed dh hasn't washed his bowl since giving him wet food weds/thurs
night !!! Its dh job to feed him etc so I hadn't noticed, it wasn't loads just a few clearly dried on bits.
I have just wiped off dried up food with tissue then rinsed out in bathroom sink with a little washing up liquid ( sink is full of stuff soaking from dinner ) and god knows where my dishcloth has gone .
Normally he has mostly kibble with the odd wet food pouch , but my kibble delivery was late so he has had wet food weds / thurs dried from yesterday .
Going forward would we be better putting bowl in dishwasher nightly? In just not sure about dog bowl in with our stuff?
Or a quick wash like today in the bathroom / kitchen sink adequate?
Generally speaking wouldn't be 3 days dried food on it as guess it will have to be another job I take on as dh seems to just ignore that it needs washing .

Why wouldn’t you put the dog bowl in the dishwasher? It is the most hygienic way to clean it.

Ylvamoon · 07/11/2020 18:08

Just put it in the dishwasher! Granted I rinse mie out beforehand.

StrippedFridge · 07/11/2020 18:09

We dishwasher the cat's dish because it thoroughly sterilises. I would have more icky about doing it in the sink with a dishcloth myself.

Mind you the cat licks the dish almost clean each time. Are you putting too much food out?

Why would you. I think it's vile putting pet food dishes in the dishwasher.

@timeforanewstart just buy a separate dish brush & wash it by hand, or rather tell DH to do it.

Why?

imabusybee · 07/11/2020 18:13

I have 5 cats and 2 dogs and their bowls (including water bowls) are regularly washed in the dishwasher. Usually on an overnight cycle though which takes ages but is very thorough and eco. I wouldn't put them on a quick wash in the dishwasher, or with baby's stuff

emilyfrost · 07/11/2020 18:13

Oh god that’s absolutely vile. What is it with animal owners and blurring the boundaries of acceptable hygiene? 🤮

Riapia · 07/11/2020 18:16

Put pet food bowls in the dishwasher when you do the toilet brush.

FippertyGibbett · 07/11/2020 18:18

I do.

timeforanewstart · 07/11/2020 18:18

@emilyfrost what putting i dishwasher ? I know dh not cleaning it us gross
For quickness this time i just got some tissue wiped out bits then sloshed some hot water and washing up liquid in bathroom sink ( which i sprayed with anti bac after as needed cleaning anyway )

@Riapia I really hope thats not a thing

@witchesbritches that sounds like a better idea
This is why i wish we had a utility room

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/11/2020 18:20

The dishwasher washes at a far higher temperature than handwashing. That's why we put our cats bowls in ours.

timeforanewstart · 07/11/2020 18:21

@StrippedFridge no he ate all the food it was only little smidgens of dried up food , which i only noticed as i moved it.
Asked dh had he been cleaning it who just looked at me blankly

Pogmella · 07/11/2020 18:22

Ewww I have a dog and would not do this. We also have chickens and use the utility room sink to wash any animal feeders away from food prep areas.

tobee · 07/11/2020 18:22

I don't really like the idea. But probably being ridiculous.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/11/2020 18:22

We always put fog dishes in the dishwasher after each use. I can't see a problem.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/11/2020 18:23

Dog not fog

timeforanewstart · 07/11/2020 18:24

I know im really fussy about certain things and have ocd ( which doesn't extend to my whole house being perfect ) but i am really fussy when it comes to food and imagine 3 day dried out wet food isn't very hygenic even if was a small amount. So sometimes i don't know if my ocd is making me over react or not. Although its still gross but a huge hygeine issue i don't know .
Same as dishwasher i know it gets hot but still dog food in with ours Im not sure

InFlagranteDerelicto · 07/11/2020 18:26

@Riapia you actually put the toilet brush in the dishwasher?

hilariousnamehere · 07/11/2020 18:28

Butbutbut - the dishwasher CLEANS everything! That's literally what it's for! My cat food bowls go in with everything else and I just make sure I empty the little basket thing at the bottom :)

Londoncatshed · 07/11/2020 18:30

I put my detachable toilet seat in the dishwasher and then happily I cook a fish in it. Wouldn’t put my dog bowl in it though. So unhygienic.

BiteyShark · 07/11/2020 18:31

I put them in every week but usually by themselves. In between I wash by hand but feel they need to be 'properly' washed every week.

SlopesOff · 07/11/2020 18:31

It's a dishwasher. It washes, rinses, dries. It removes bits of food, grease, germs.

Maybe the dog prefers not to have it contaminated with human germs.

VioletCharlotte · 07/11/2020 18:32

I've always washed my dog's bowl in the dishwasher, I can't see what the issue is? The dishwasher cleans at such a high temperature, surely it's perfectly hygienic.
