Dog food bowl in dishwasher

So just went to give dog water and noticed dh hasn't washed his bowl since giving him wet food weds/thurs
night !!! Its dh job to feed him etc so I hadn't noticed, it wasn't loads just a few clearly dried on bits.
I have just wiped off dried up food with tissue then rinsed out in bathroom sink with a little washing up liquid ( sink is full of stuff soaking from dinner ) and god knows where my dishcloth has gone .
Normally he has mostly kibble with the odd wet food pouch , but my kibble delivery was late so he has had wet food weds / thurs dried from yesterday .
Going forward would we be better putting bowl in dishwasher nightly? In just not sure about dog bowl in with our stuff?
Or a quick wash like today in the bathroom / kitchen sink adequate?
Generally speaking wouldn't be 3 days dried food on it as guess it will have to be another job I take on as dh seems to just ignore that it needs washing .

If you rinse under a tap you’re producing aerosols of water and dog food which you’ll inhale.

It’s better to scrape any debris straight into the bin.

I think dw manufacturers say don’t rinse because it introduces water into the machine that hasn’t been softened. Dw have internal water softeners.

We stick the bowls in the dishwasher ever night. Dog has dry food but still needs the bowls washed.

kitchen bin lid in the dishwasher

Not that is pretty nasty. Saying that I have an aversion to bins, hate them.

Surely it’s at best raw meat and no different to what we’re preparing and eating daily. Humans are as full of germs, bugs and bacteria as our pets and I’d rather everything got a good hot wash in the dishwasher.

Abbey
Absolutely right if you are in the habit of licking your hands dry.

No, but my hands touch things which then transfer these super dangerous almost indestructible prions all over the place Shock

MissAHannigan · 08/11/2020 09:40

@Anotherducker

BSE from the dog bowl? Some of you worry too much.
Super BSE that can survive the production and canning process PLUS the heat and detergent of the dishwasher. But a swish in the sink with some soapy water is fine 🤷‍♀️

A dishwasher leaves things a lot cleaner and more hygienic than a slosh in the sink, especially if you use a cloth or sponge.

But for cultural or religious regions, some people consider animal dishes to be unclean, even when they are clean.

Now, why did I never think of this ... ?!
SciFiScream · 27/11/2020 15:32

@AbbeyRoadNW8 I think dog can cat food has to be prepared to standards that allow for accidental (or deliberate) consumptions by humans.

So no prions to worry about.

I think (I was told by someone else) I must go and look it up.

I think that change came about when there was the scandal of elderly people eating animal food to save money.

We wash our pet bowls in the dishwasher, can't see any issue with it? It sterilises and cleans, well we aren't dead yet because of our filthy ways Hmm

Mydogisagentleman · 27/11/2020 15:58

My dog’s bowls go in on alternate days
