I've just brushed my teeth and used listerine. I think it's expensive for a mouth wash but I will never buy a cheaper one as I think it is very effective.
Very boring I know, but makes me wonder about others.

OP posts:

Tea
Meat
Knitwear
Crisps
Ketchup
Tinned tomatoes
Mustard
Pickle

The show Eat Well for Less changes my view on a lot of branded items. I become less rigid and open to try other brands.

I have always suspected the expensive shoes for DCs is a marketing ploy .... mine hate their fitted ones and always preferred flimsy supermarket brand ones. Now they are older and live in (branded) trainers.

PatsyPet · 18/09/2020 00:53

Sorry typos

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 18/09/2020 00:57

@Nomoreilove

Don’t understand why people like Heinz ketchup so much. M&S ketchup tastes so much better and is less than a pound. I dare anyone to try a supermarket version and see.
I'm a Tesco ketchup girl myself Smile.

@OhTheRoses

I agree about the Lurpak *@jingsmahbucket*.
Oh thank goodness. For all that people rave about it, I thought I was taking crazy pills or something!

@Laiste Are you me? 😏

myusernamewastakenbyme · 18/09/2020 08:13

I have 3 grown up kids....I dont think i bought Clarks shoes for any of them...as someone upthread said just very good marketing.

NancyNightmare · 18/09/2020 08:14

Meat and dairy. As much for welfare reasons / guilt as for taste.

Shoes. Even if I have to get secondhand, I won't wear or make my kids wear shit shoes. I have crap feet though, so need decent footwear .

NancyNightmare · 18/09/2020 08:20

Oh and I also don't get Heinz ketchup! Dh has a thing about it and also Heinz baked beans. I swear he must have been indoctrinated at some point by Heinz evil masterminds Wink.

On butter, I like Kerrygold, or Golden Cow if I'm in Ireland, but don't mind supermarket own brand.

GoldenHoops · 18/09/2020 08:24

@cactusdog Totally agree. ( looks at D's 5 😀😁)

BaublesAndGlitter · 18/09/2020 08:26

Dog food
Tea bags - I only drink a few cups a week so I want to enjoy them.
Baked beans - Branstons, not Heinz.
Moisturiser - not overly expensive but my skin is awful so paying for the stuff that works for me is 100% worth it.
Mattress
Pillows

Furniture - we've had cheap furniture for years and are now in the process of replacing it with decent stuff. Most is second hand for environmental reasons but it's still not cheap.

AuntieMarys · 18/09/2020 08:28

President butter
Cheese
Fevertree tonic
Haagen Dazs icecream
Dermalogica skincare

keepingbees · 18/09/2020 09:02

Heinz ketchup to me tastes more tomatoey. Own brand ones have a more vinegar like taste. I'm not fussed as I hardly ever use it but I do prefer the taste of Heinz

Equimum · 18/09/2020 09:25
  • Wine. I would rather have a nice bottle occasionally than lots of cheap bottles.
  • Kids shoes. They were always barefoot when smaller, and no Geox or Startrite.
  • childcare. We went without foreign holidays to pay for a nursery that we loved and felt was the best fit for our children.
AriettyHomily · 18/09/2020 09:29

Running shoes

MadisonMontgomery · 18/09/2020 09:59

Clothes & shoes. Can’t bear buying things that don’t last, especially shoes - worked in a ward where all the young girls went through a pair of Primark shoes a month and constantly complained that their feet hurt!

Mj2196 · 18/09/2020 10:00

Perfume
Tea bags
Clark’s shoes for kids
Jeans
Make up
Toilet roll
Bin bags
Also the Kids coats

imarocketman50 · 18/09/2020 10:10

Cheese - volume not type
Loo roll
Kitchen roll
Holiday's - this is a big one for us
Water bottles - has to be Chilly's
Tupperware

LilaButterfly · 18/09/2020 12:10

Animal products. I buy milk, eggs etc. from a local farm. They are more expensive, but i know how the animals are kept.

Make up, cheap ones make my skin dry. Also i make sure they are animal friendly brands.

DrCoconut · 18/09/2020 12:20

Toothpaste and mouthwash (I use brands recommended by the dental hospital for my gum issues). I also don't generally like cheap tea.

Palavah · 18/09/2020 12:27

Bras and sports bras
Running shoes
Hair conditioner
Bedding
Yorkshire tea
Meat (eat less often, but better quality and higher welfare)
Eggs
Oat milk
Viakal
Polish
Hand soap
Cleaning cloths - cheap onea fall apart.

veryvery · 18/09/2020 12:38

I have favourite brands but they are not necessarily the most expensive. I like Moser Roth chocolate from Aldi, for example. I like Hermes perfumes but also rate Fragonard, which are pretty affordable in M & S. I wouldn't buy cheap or expensive hair dye because I make my own from foodstuffs which works out very inexpensively. I prefer to cut my own hair with help from DH. But I do have favourite brands in lots of products.
