What don't you skimp on?

I've just brushed my teeth and used listerine. I think it's expensive for a mouth wash but I will never buy a cheaper one as I think it is very effective.
Very boring I know, but makes me wonder about others.

Wine
Cheese
Deli

Actually now I see why I’m a porky fecker

Watto1 · 17/09/2020 22:08

Glasses. As in spectacles rather than drinking! I literally wear them every waking moment (apart from in the shower) so I treat myself to pairs that I really love.

SospanFrangipan · 17/09/2020 22:08

Shoes, toilet roll, tooth paste

@DeRigueurMortis like all food?

If you want and like something it isn't scrimping. Perfectly happy with Sainsbury's bog roll, but like good quality dried pasta.

Good lighting.

cactusdog · 17/09/2020 22:10

@Watto1 I would feel the same about glasses!

I'm seeing butter come up a lot, not sure why but I'm surprised

OP posts:

Underwear, jeans, dog food, butter, Yorkshire Tea, skincare, bedding and wine

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2020 22:12

@watto1 I agree, except I keep mine on in the shower.

museumum · 17/09/2020 22:12

Waterproof clothing.
Running shoes.
Just bough dc stupidly expensive bikes but we do ride a lot.

missmouse101 · 17/09/2020 22:12

Fairy liquid is shite nowadays compared to how it used to be. Aldi do a much better one (grey bottle.) Marigold gloves and Marmite for me.

PegasusReturns · 17/09/2020 22:12

Tonic water (fevertree)
Toothpaste (Colgate total white )
Toilet paper (Andrex quilted)
Foundation (Lancôme Teint Idole)
Icecream (Ben and Jerry’s)
Candles (diptyque)

I do however love cheap chocolate (dairy milk) and I’m very happy with Nivea eye makeup remover and maybeline mascara

EugenesAxe · 17/09/2020 22:13

My moisturiser, also like others I’m brand loyal to Branston baked beans and Heinz ketchup. Not mayo though; French mayonnaise in any brand is tasty.

Hepzibar · 17/09/2020 22:15

Good hairdresser

captainprincess · 17/09/2020 22:16

Dog/cat food.

usernamewastaken · 17/09/2020 22:16

Kitchenware; Brabantia and Bosch.

Food and drinks and toiletries; generic supermarket own is fine, sometimes the budget smart price stuff.

Watto1 · 17/09/2020 22:16

@OhTheRoses - and I thought I was bad keeping my glasses on in the swimming pool!

Duvetdweller · 17/09/2020 22:17

I dream of Clark’s shoes - 2 in DM’s here at £90 a pop. And to add insult to injury they’re hardly wearing them because they appear to be going in PE kit most days, with the trainers that are going to need replacing soon...

Fyzz · 17/09/2020 22:19

Holidays. Not bothered about branded foods, I buy cheap clothes, drive an old car. When it comes to a holiday I'd rather a weekend in 5* than a fortnight cheap and cheerful.

crankysaurus · 17/09/2020 22:21

Electricians.

reginafalange2020 · 17/09/2020 22:21

Fabric conditioner (yellow comfort)
Estée Lauder double wear foundation

Mangofandangoo · 17/09/2020 22:22

Car tyres

TinkersTailor · 17/09/2020 22:23

Toilet Roll (false economy)
Kitchen Towel (ditto)
Washing up liquid (Fairy Platinum every time!)
Heinz Soup/Ketchup
Laundry products (detergent, softener, scent beads...)
Candles
Bedding
Perfume
Skincare
Towels
Clothes/shoes
Coffee and tea
Hand cream
Stuff for DDs hair..
Electronics/appliances

Other than that, I'll try anything Grin

HelloDaisy · 17/09/2020 22:30

Tea bags, mayo, toilet roll, washing up liquid. Not sure about scrimping but I always buy the same brands of them.

However I do not scrimp on meat as was brought up believing that there is no such thing as good, cheap meat!

ODFOx · 17/09/2020 22:30

Dishwasher tablets.
Shampoo
Millicano ( the only instant otherwise we grind and faff)

I'm intrigued by the 1000 count bedding: I can tell the difference on pillowcases so buy at least 400 count ( while worrying less on sheets) but is it worth investing in higher count for sheets too? Currently on 400 but sometimes use polycotton swaps for laundry and don't really notice the difference.

DeRigueurMortis · 17/09/2020 22:31
@DeRigueurMortis like all food?
In the main yes.

I like to buy meat from the local butcher and veg boxes from the local nursery.

I make my own bread most of the time (bread maker - I'm not a martyr!).

I do a supermarket shop for tins/dried herbs/cereal/flour etc - staples I suppose.

I try and buy the best pasta I can get (I like de cecco) and decent olive oil/vinegars/cheese.

I don't buy ready meals and tbh I don't buy brands like Tropicana or Lurpac (OJ is OJ and butter is butter) - generally just get the supermarket brand.

So yes I do try and buy quality food but I don't mean that I shop at Waitrose/M&S and always buy "top brands".
