What don't you skimp on?

I've just brushed my teeth and used listerine. I think it's expensive for a mouth wash but I will never buy a cheaper one as I think it is very effective.
Very boring I know, but makes me wonder about others.

OP posts:

Conditioner
Unstoppables
Yorkshire Tea

Smallsteps88 · 17/09/2020 22:53

Bedding and shoes/indoor slippers. If you’re not in one you’re in the other so better make them comfortable.

Vinorosso74 · 17/09/2020 22:53

I hate Listerine mouthwash but always buy the blue Colgate Plax one.
Always Heinz beans and ketchup, Pip n Nut peanut butter. DP and I do like the decent craft beers but I'm quite happy with a £6 bottle of wine!
Shampoo and hair products-not your Kevin Murphy type stuff but the mid range brands in Boots OGX, John Frieda etc.

Bamboo toilet paper on subscription? From doctor, at pharmacy?

SenorFrog · 17/09/2020 22:56

Bedding. Love my bed.

Meat. I don't do cheap meat. I don't eat much so it's hot to be good.

Home decor. I don't go mad but I don't decorate much so I know I have to love it,

LadyGAgain · 17/09/2020 22:59

Toilet roll
Clark's shoes
Makeup (including skin care)
Wine
Fresh mozzarella & Parmesan!
Carpets
Branded spirits

carly2803 · 17/09/2020 22:59

kids shoes - never skimp and get measured

LadyGAgain · 17/09/2020 22:59

Oh. Branstons baked beans
Heinz ketchup
Fairy liquid

TokenGinger · 17/09/2020 23:03

Face creams. I have never been one to spend a great deal of money on face creams and to be honest, I never really had a skincare regime.

Since I had DS and have very little sleep, I look haggard. So I've been buying Elemis which costs a small fortune but is so worth it. My skin has never looked better.

BritInAus · 17/09/2020 23:04

Foundation (MAC) - happy with cheaper brands for the rest of my make up

Decent fitted shoes for DD

abitoflight · 17/09/2020 23:04

Taxis
My share when out to meals or buying rounds in the pub

SheilaHammond · 17/09/2020 23:10

Anything that goes on the table at meal times... plates, cutlery, napkins, glasses. I really love a nicely laid table! Not that fussed about actual food.

PurBal · 17/09/2020 23:14

Eggs. Cheese. Loo roll. Hand soap.

JingsMahBucket · 17/09/2020 23:16

Cheese

Fruit -- tasteless strawberries are so disappointing

Good deli meats like high quality dry sausage, pancetta, ham, etc. Cheap deli meats are generally gross and overly salty in a bad way.

Yoghurt -- can't stand the Lidl bucket o' "Greek" yoghurt. It looks like a bucket of white paint primer and doesn't taste of anything. I tend to buy Fage.

Clinique facial exfoliating scrub -- I cheapened out recently and bought St. Ives again and it made my ingrowns worse.

Hair products like shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, etc.

Bar soap and hand soap -- I've converted to buying nice bars of soap and see it as an affordable luxury since they last so long and smell wonderful. It's like cheap aromatherapy each morning. I also love Aesop hand wash.

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day products -- hand wash, dish soap, and all purpose cleaner specifically, especially in lavender scent.

Method laundry detergent

Body butter and other moisturizers

Wine -- depends where I am. If I'm in France, a cheap bottle is still really excellent.

Shoes -- I have fallen arches and need proper support so I'm not in pain.

Post-It notes. Cheap/store brand ones just fall off the bloody wall or out your notebook after the first application. It's not worth the frustration.

JingsMahBucket · 17/09/2020 23:17

Is it just me or does Lurpak not taste like anything?

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2020 23:54

I agree about the Lurpak @jingsmahbucket.

VetOnCall · 17/09/2020 23:54

My dogs' food, supplements etc.
Ruffwear gear for the dogs - I just spent CA$126 (£74) on 2 new water bowls
Cars and car maintenance
Electric toothbrush & replacement heads
Toothpaste and mouthwash
Facial sunscreen/skincare
Deodorant
Hair colour at hairdresser every 8 weeks
Conditioner and products for curly hair
Meat, eggs, cheese, vegetables and fruit from the farmers' market (mostly organic)
Lululemon and Sweaty Betty gym/running clothes
Running shoes
Patagonia, Arc'teryx and Fjallraven outdoor gear

Loads of stuff tbh, too much to list, I have expensive taste in general but we can afford it (no children!).

DP spends $$ on fancy coffee and organic, single origin maple syrup, he's a true Canadian 😄

TinkersTailor · 18/09/2020 00:13

@Boatingforthestars

I like things to be good quality and if by paying more you get better quality than I will happily splash out.

Cars and all things motoring related.
Winter coats
Footwear
Tools (I'm guy)
Coffee
Tea
Pet food

That's a good point, I didn't think of cars.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford a nice car with all the added extras I wanted and the difference is worlds apart.

FelicityFisher · 18/09/2020 00:19

@Splendidseptember umm
No. Are you perhaps thinking of a prescription?

I subscribe and receive bamboo toilet paper. It's not a medical thing

TinkersTailor · 18/09/2020 00:21

A decent mattress too.

I've got the Eve Sleep Premium and it's like sleeping on air. The most comfortable thing ever.
It's done wonders for my chronic pain, I can actually get some sleep now.

RainbowMum11 · 18/09/2020 00:30

Proper butter but can be own brand as long as it is pure butter.

Erm, other than that I am struggling to think what brands I haven't already switched...

I only buy British farm assured meat & eggs, and milk that supports British farmers, try to buy seasonal fruit & veg.

Oh yeah - big one - Diet Coke!!

mena51 · 18/09/2020 00:41

Hotels.
Food.
Skincare.

Poulter · 18/09/2020 00:43

Meat. Would never buy cheap meat. I'd rather be veggie for health and animal welfare reasons.

Handbags. Cheap ones fall apart.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 18/09/2020 00:46

Peanut butter and other nut butters. Cheap ones are nasty.

Porridge oats.

Nomoreilove · 18/09/2020 00:52

Don’t understand why people like Heinz ketchup so much. M&S ketchup tastes so much better and is less than a pound. I dare anyone to try a supermarket version and see.
