I've just brushed my teeth and used listerine. I think it's expensive for a mouth wash but I will never buy a cheaper one as I think it is very effective.
Very boring I know, but makes me wonder about others.

Sanitary products. (D)m always bought me the cheapest as a teenager despite constant leaks at school, in bed, sports and the wetness, sore etc

Thank God for a navy uniform:(

Serena1977 · 18/09/2020 12:47

Also, anything for the dc. Never had much growing up so I'm used to wearing cheap but I will not have my 2 DC wearing rubbish, eating rubbish, etc etc

On the shoes one, you don't have to go to Clarke's but you should always go somewhere that offers measuring and fitting by someone who has been professionally trained. Smaller independent stores are really good for this. The shoes should be leather as they are the best material for allowing feet to be contained without constraining them, the leather will mould to the foot shape so that toes can grow and spread as they should. Other materials that are vegan friendly are available but you have to choose carefully for these properties.

Cheaper shoes tend to be made of plastic based uppers and the inner sole made from compressed cardboard covered in thin fabric over a plastic waffle-like outer sole. When they wear through, your child will be walking on the waffle part and damaging their foot.

A good quality sole has a leather inner sole as well, with a more solid out sole that is not constructed with a waffle, injection moulded ones are very good and not dead expensive.

But to get good staff who are fully trained, and supply good quality shoes, you will normally be paying upwards of £35 for kids shoes.

Coffee. I always make it properly, no instant granules.

rosecakequeen · 18/09/2020 13:00

Shower gel, hand wash and fragrance. Even if you don't look sophisticated, at least you can smell like you are.

LunaHardy · 18/09/2020 13:02

Make up.
Shampoo.
Teabags.
Ketchup.

Mintjulia · 18/09/2020 13:15

Decent bread not blotting paper sliced.

Decent coffee, toothpaste, moisturiser, not supermarket own.

Quality, pure cotton Bedding.

Brands - lea and perrins, Tabasco, Clark's school shoes

humidifierx · 18/09/2020 13:17

Tea bags, toilet roll, food in general, hand soap

time2changeit · 18/09/2020 13:34

Tea bags have to be PG pyramids, Hellman's mayonnaise, Fairy liquid and marigold rubber gloves. I've tried cheaper supermarket versions of all of these and am always disappointed.

Recently I have a bit more disposable income though and would love to buy better some quality bedding and toiletries. If you buy lovely, white bedding with a high thread count and gorgeous smelling hand and bath products please share where you buy them from, even though I have a bit more to spend I still won't waste money and like to get a good deal on what I do buy.

Flights! More than 6.5hrs long and it has to be Business Blush

HathorX · 18/09/2020 13:42
  • Our green energy tariff
  • Chocolate brands - really cheap chocolate is just not worth eating in my opinion
  • free range chicken breasts. It is tastier and a lot less watery than the farmed stuff, so two breasts will feed 4 people
Timestoodstilll · 18/09/2020 13:45

Coca Cola, real butter, free range eggs, eco-friendly cleaning products. A contradictory list, I know.

2bazookas · 18/09/2020 13:57

Butter, wine, fruit, knickers, bedlinen

aafwan · 18/09/2020 13:58

Tinned tomatoes. I used to get supermarkets own brands but during lockdown there was only the more expensive ones around. I couldn’t believe the difference they made to whatever I used them in. I’m now converted.

Shoes. I have a joint condition so if shoes are comfortable and supportive I’ll buy them. I can’t go above £150 though.

Hair products . Within reason if they suit my dry fine hair I’ll buy them.

Larger branches of TKmaxx often have hotel-quality white bedlinen at reduced prices.

If you're really splashing out go for pure linen; expensive but blissful comfort, and it's going to last at least your lifetime. Charity shops used to be a magical source of antique pure linen hand embroidered pillowcases -but I got there first-

chubbyhotchoc · 18/09/2020 14:34

You've just reminded me I should have picked up some today. Damn it. I don't skimp on foundation or anything to do with my hair.
